Senegalese Football

“Football is the fabric that holds nations together” – This is

particularly true for a country like Senegal. Generally a poor developing country, however what it lacks in economy it

makes up in heart and passion. Nowhere is this passion felt

more, than on the football pitch – be it the large national

stadium or any vacant corner of Dakar that quickly gets

converted into a football pitch.

Dakar city

Dakar is a throbbing African metropolis. There is an air of colonial sophistication mixed with the unstoppable decay of an inept African government. No matter how corrupt or inefficient the government may be it cannot kill the enduring spirit of the African population. Always selling, always hussling, the struggle of life is tangible in this place

The Baobab Forest Just 1hr outside of the Capital city of Dakar, there is a sacred place - The Baobab forest. As far as the eyes can see there are massive Baobab trees, most of which with a diameter over 4m and over 100years old. Like so many places in Africa, baobabs are considered sacred and are believed to hold the souls of the forefathers. They are considered the tree of life because they supply everything that a person needs to survive – fruit water and shade.
