Mentzer serves as the Vice Commander and Air Force Commander of Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling, District of Columbia. The command provides support to over 17,000 military and civilian employees and their families throughout the National Capital Region. The 1,000 acre installation is home to 68 mission partners, including Marine Helicopter Squadron One, the White House Communication Agency, the Joint Air Defense Operations Center, the Defense Intelligence Agency, United States Coast Guard Station Washington, and the United States Navy and Air Force Ceremonial Guards. Colonel Mentzer commissioned in 1997 graduating with academic distinction from the University of Nebraska. She has served as an Air Force Intern for the Deputy Secretary of Defense, a Major Command Legislative Liaison, a Joint Staff Planner, an Executive Officer to the Joint Staff Director, Chief Speechwriter to the Air Force Vice Chief of Staff, Executive Officer to the Air Force Chief of Staff, and as a National Defense Fellow at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars. In 2012 she commanded the 379th Expeditionary Force Support Squadron in Southwest Asia providing accountability, dignified honors, and sustainment support for approximately 10,000 Operation Enduring Freedom joint and coalition forces.
