Character
Counts Quote Of the Week:
Being a good citizen means cooperating
with others and respecting authority.
Dear Parents & Students,
This is for all you that took the PARCC test this week, please remember that strangers
will give you your scores. And that there are many ways of being smart.
These strangers do not know that you can speak two languages. They do not know that
you can play an instrument or sing or dance or paint a picture. They do not know that
you take care of your little brother after school, that your friends can count on you to
be there for them, or that your smile can brighten the dreariest of days.
They do not know that you are trustworthy, that you are kind, and that you are
thoughtful. They do not know that you spent your summer with a 700-page Harry
Potter book.
They do not know YOU. But we who know you-your moms and dads, your grandparents
and TEACHERS, your neighbors and friends are proud of you and all you will be.
Scores will tell you something, but they will not tell you everything.
There are many ways of being smart.

How could one negative comment from the little girl discourage the boy?
How did one small comment from the lady encourage the boy?
Where would any of us be without people who believe we can do the impossible?

Pop Tab War Rules:● Collect pop tabs from
the sodas you drink
from school and home.
● Place only the pop tab
into your house bucket
● The house with the
most pop tabs WINS!
Children Helping OthersPlanting a seed and watching it grow is rewarding. Just imagine how heartwarming it is to introduce children to philanthropy and watch them grow to understand how they can make a difference in the lives of others.
More than 140 schools throughout the Kansas City metropolitan area are pulling pop-tabs for the House that Love Built®. Students are learning that even a small action such as collecting the pop tab off their soda can helps make an impact on another person’s life.
Participating schools have collected thousands of pounds of pop tabs generating much needed funds benefiting the children and families of Ronald McDonald House Charities of Kansas City!
Pop Tab Program
Why Pop Tabs? It’s amazing how something so small can make a difference. Last year, friends of Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) pulled pop tabs raising thousands of dollars to help children and their families.
Pop tabs are small, easy to collect and store. Why not the entire can? The pop tab is pure aluminum where the can contains paint and other residue.
Pop tabs remind us of an important lesson: even little things make a big difference. Collecting pop tabs helps Ronald McDonald House Charities pay the bills so moms and dads need not worry about where they stay while their children are in the hospital.
Looking for a community service project? Pop tabs are a fun way for individuals, schools and organizations to get involved and help others.
Ronald McDonald House Charities provides a “home away from home”
for families who must travel to Kansas City for their child’s medical care...a place where families can maintain the comforting routines of day-to-day life during a stressful time.
Through Ronald McDonald Houses and the Family Room, our mission is to reduce the burden of childhood illness on children and their families.
Annually, our Houses and Family Room provide lodging for nearly 7,000 families as well as open our doors to support over 44,000 visits from family and friends of in-patients at Children’s Mercy Hospital.

How to Participate
Where to Take Your Pop Tabs
Once your containers are full, please deliver them to:
Cherry Street House2501 Cherry Street
Kansas City, MO 64108816.842.8321
My name is Jacob. When I was 7 years old I had brain surgery. My family and I stayed
at a Ronald McDonald House in New York for about a month.
From my experience at Ronald McDonald House, I knew that I wanted to do
something to help others. When I got back to school, I recruited my classmates at
Sycamore Hills Elementary School to help pull pop tabs for other kids like me.
I tell my friends that “Ronald McDonald House treats you really good and collecting pop tabs helps them.”
We collect “tons” of pop tabs to help earn money for the House and have fun doing so!
It’s easy to start a pop tab program and quickly collect tons of tabs! Ask your friends at school, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, youth groups, neighbors and co-workers to help save tons of tabs. Anyone can get involved.
Pop tabs can be collected in boxes, plastic storage bags, coffee cans, potato chip canisters, etc. Please do not use plastic soda bottles or milk jugs - they are difficult to empty.
Collecting pop tabs is a popular volunteer opportunity that benefits RMHC families and is easy to organize. When you pull for the House that Love Built®, you... ** expand public awareness ** make new friends ** raise money ** protect the environment

SponsorsA special thank you to our generous sponsors! We are grateful for their support.
Advantage Metals, our local recycler, generously donates its services allowing all the proceeds to stay locally at Ronald McDonald House Charities of Kansas City.
Local sponsors, such as Valley View Bank, the Bank of Lee’s Summit, M&I Banks, and Hawthorn Bank help support the Tons of Tabs campaign by providing tab collection boxes and by matching school funds raised.
And, to The Greater Kansas City Alumnae Association of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority for making the Tons of Tabs campaign happen!
Tons of Tabs CampaignSchools can “pull” for Ronald McDonald House Charities through the Tons of Tabs campaign. The Greater Kansas City Alumnae Association of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority leads the school-year collection campaign.
Pop tabs are collected at the end of each school year. It’s exciting to see the tons of tabs that were saved throughout the year by kids of all ages. This shows how a small item truly makes a difference!
