No, I don't know that atheists should be regarded as citizens, nor should they be regarded as patriotic. This is one nation under God.… I support the separation of church and state. I'm just not very high on atheists.

Oprah Winfrey tells an atheist that she is not an atheist because she understands Awe and Wonder...

“Well, I don’t call you an atheist then,” Winfrey said. “I think if you believe in the awe and the wonder and the mystery, then that is what God is.

Sunday, November 10, 13• Slide 4: What’s in it for your audience? Explain why your topic is important or worth discussing. If there were less religious resistance people would embrace life-saving technologies like Stem cell research. We could heal people otherwise beyond help.

Science just is. We discover it for what it is. It serves no ends, it simply is what it is. No matter what we want it to do.

Sunday, November 10, 13• Slide 5: Why should your audience listen to you? Explain your ethos (credibility). I was raised as a Catholic and even served as an Altar Boy in my teens. The death of my beloved girlfriend encouraged my faith as it came with the idea that I would see her again. As I studied my faith, I found flaws in religious teachings and became a reluctant agnostic. Through further studies, I’ve accepted my Atheism, though remain open to reproducible evidence that could prove any religion.

Sunday, November 10, 13• Slide 12: Sometimes, newly discovered truths are terribly inconvenient to a religion. Religious leaders are all too eager to twist interpretations of the bible to fit new discoveries. Critical thinking is crucial when confronting what the church tells their congregants.
