2019 School Leadership Nominations

Next Tue, Wed and Thu (27-29 Nov) at 9.00am, the students nominated for 2019 Student Leaders will be presenting their election speeches to the school community.

Below is a timetable of when each child will be doing their speech, parents are welcome to come and watch.

Intensive Swimming

What a great couple of weeks we have had with the swimmers. It was fantastic the way they sensibly walked to and from the pool everyday. All the swimming instructors were impressed at the improvements students made in the pool. All students that participated in at least 5 days of swimming, will receive a certificate in the following weeks. We encourage students to continue swimming lessons over the holidays and during the year.

Helen Wiedermann

Stage 2 End of Year Excursion

All Stage 2 students have received permission notes this week, in regards to attending our end of year Party Day Excursion on Friday 14th of December. We have a fantastic day planned for Stage 2, the group will firstly visit Maitland Reading Cinemas to watch The Grinch (PG). All classes will then walk to Maitland Park for lunch and a quick play on the equipment. The bus will have us back to school at approximately 2.45pm. Please return your child's permission slip together with the $20.00 to their class teacher prior to Wednesday 12th December to ensure your child can participate in a wonderful day out.

Lauren Piddington

Last Week’s Quiz

In what part of your body would you find wisdoms and molars? Your teeth.

Congratulations go to Tane, William, Ella and Kade who submitted correct entries.

Picnic Day for Students with Hearing Impairment

Next Friday 30th Nov a number of our students who receive support for hearing impairment will be invited to a Picnic Day at Warners Bay for Lego workshops. There they will get to meet students from other schools with similar needs, and celebrate the achievements they have made on the program during the year.

Kinder Orientation

The last of five Kinder Orientation sessions is next Tuesday. Next year’s Kinder students are getting familiar with the place! With a slight jump in numbers, we are planning on 3 Kinder classes next year.

BBQer Needed

We are looking for a couple of people who are handy with the tongs to cook up a snag or two on the afternoon of our Carols Evening. If you are available between 3:30pm and 6pm, or anytime in between, please let the school office know. Thanks.

Books in Homes

On Friday 30th November (Week 7) we will hold our last Books in Homes Assembly for 2018. Students from Early Stage One and Stage One will attend this assembly. We will have a visit from a local author and the children will receive three books they chose earlier in the term. A big thank you must go to Quarry Mining and Construction for supporting this worthwhile initiative. Due to their generosity each child gets these books to take home and keep in a library bag. We must also say a big thank you to the Books in Homes program who has been exceptionally busy during 2017 and 2018, working its way to our new distribution goal—to deliver 3 million plus books of choice to children.

Reward Day Sports Challenge

Last Week’s Reward Day saw the first annual intraschool battle between the school’s PSSA Netball team and Rugby League team. The rugby league team challenged the netball team to a ‘winner takes all’ challenge in a fierce game of netball.

The crowd gathered like storm clouds. But what they saw was a massacre. The netball team stamped their authority all over their League counterparts. This reporter is not willing to display the score however the league team managed only one goal… When the dust settled a great day was had, with both teams doing their best and having a good laugh. Special thanks to Mrs Lyle for commentating the game as well as Matilda and Taneisha for umpiring.

Rumour has it that the league team want their revenge (served ice cold) in a game of touch football. Or that they may even join forces to compete against the teachers!

Michael Gabrielides

Premier’s Reading Challenge

Congratulations to all of those children who completed the Premier’s Reading Challenge this year. There was a tremendous effort by our students and we had 170 children complete the challenge. Certificates are being handed out daily at our school assemblies. This year, 20 of our students are receiving Gold Awards, for completing the challenge four times. This is a fantastic result. Gold awards will be handed out at our whole school assembly. We also have two students who are receiving Platinum Awards for completing the challenge seven times. This is an outstanding achievement and these certificates will be handed out on Presentation Day.

Gold Certificate Winners:

Lucy B, Madison C, Brodie C, Aleia D, Kade H, Riley H, Alex J, Bella K, Lilly K, Abbie L, Deegan L, Harry N, Daisy P, Angus R, Sharleigh R, Sarah S, Trinity S, Koby W, Emily W, Chloe W.

Library Borrowing

Borrowing for this year has now ceased in preparation for a stocktake. Please remind your children to return all books to the library as soon as possible. We are currently having a competition to see which class is the first to return all of their books. The winning class will receive a prize.

Karen Meyer—Teacher Librarian

Not Returning in 2019?

We will start to organise classes soon for 2019. If you are moving and will not be returning in 2019, please advise the office as soon as possible.

Next week’s focus is: Safe Hands, Safe Feet

When I have safe hands and safe feet;

I have a calm body

I keep my hands and feet in my own space

I keep my own space

Congratulations to ……... Hollie, Dylan, India-Rose and Destany who were our weekly focus winners and had their names drawn out of the box.

This Week’s Quiz

What does ‘meander’ mean?

Write your answer on a piece of paper with your name and class and post it in the Quiz Box next to Mr Ridgway’s office by Wednesdays at 10am.

next year, and parents have been presented with lots of

helpful school information.

Next week is our last session for the children. Parents

are asked to leave their children and return to pick

them up 10.40—it will be good practice for next year’s

big day.

Any outstanding paperwork is required before the child

can start Kindergarten next year. Please return

anything outstanding to the front office as soon as

possible.

Canteen Volunteers Required We require some volunteers for our 2019 Canteen Roster. If we don’t get enough volunteers we will be at risk of closing on 1 or more days per week. Any help will be greatly appreciated—whether it is once a week or month or even for a couple of hours or a full day.

Carols Night We need volunteers for our Carols Night to run smoothly. If you are interested in lending a hand please contact the canteen staff.
