eRecruit
Thank you for your interest in employment opportunities with Mackay Regional Council. All
applications for vacant positions must be submitted via eRecruit. Emailed, faxed, posted or
applications submitted in person will not be accepted.
The below instructions and guidelines will assist you in applying for vacancies through our
eRecruit portal. If you would like information regarding vacancies, please visit the Frequently
Asked Questions document on our Careers page.
Viewing Current Vacancies
All externally advertised positions are advertised on eRecruit which can be accessed from our
website using any of the following options. You will need to visit the MRC website at
www.mackay.qld.gov.au. In the top left area of the screen, select ‘Careers’.
Alternatively, hover over the ‘Council’ tab and then select ‘Careers’.
You can also type www.mackay.qld.gov.au/careers into your browser to directly open the
Careers page.

Register for eRecruit
To apply for a vacant position at Mackay Regional Council, you will need to register as an
applicant in our eRecruit portal. To register for an eRecruit Profile, open the eRecruit portal
using the above instructions, and select ‘Register’ on the left side of the screen. This will allow
you to create an account to apply for current and future vacancies. When registering for
eRecruit, ensure your email address is typed accurately and that you check it regularly for
updates on your applications.
If there are errors with your registration, an error message will open and will display the error.
The field that has an error will highlight in red. You will need to fix the field that is displaying
an error and resubmit your registration.
Once your details have been submitted, the privacy statement will open. Read through the
privacy statement and select ‘Agree’ in the bottom right corner if you agree with the terms in
the statement.
You will then be able to complete your application.

Logging into the System
If you have already registered for eRecruit, you will be able to login to the system. To login to
the eRecruit system, open eRecruit and select ‘Login’ on the left side of the screen.
Type your email address and password and select ‘Enter’. You will then be logged into your
eRecruit account.
View a Vacancy
To view more details about a vacancy, click on the title of the vacancy which will be highlighted
in blue.

This will take you to the vacancy screen which includes the title, status, location, salary and
further information about the role.
The Position Description for the role can be viewed on the right side of the screen by clicking
‘Download Attachments’.

Apply for a position
Before starting your application, please ensure your cover letter, resume and selection criteria
(if required) have been updated and are ready to attach. The required documents will be listed
in the job advertisement. Documents must be saved as either a Microsoft Word document
(.docx) or an Adobe PDF (.pdf). Each document must be less than 2MB. For further
information regarding what to include in your application documentation, please visit the
Mackay Regional Council Careers page and read the Frequently Asked Questions document.
When your documentation is ready, open the eRecruit homepage and login or register using
the above instructions. Once logged in, select the title of the position you would like to apply
for. This will open the vacancy.
In the bottom right corner of the screen, select ‘Apply for Job’.
This will take you to a new page where you will be required to edit and enter your application
details. In each required section, you will need to click the ‘Edit’ button in the top right
hand corner. When you are editing a section of your application, it will be highlighted yellow.
You will not be able to make changes to more than one section of your application at a time,
so ensure you press ‘Save’ in each section before moving on.

Update Details Select ‘Edit’ in the top right corner. Enter your details and select ‘Save’ in the top right
corner.
Update Address Select ‘Edit’ in the top right-hand corner. Ensure your address is correct. More than one
address can be added. Once updated, select ‘Save’.

A window will open to select your documents. If a window does not open, ensure you allow
pop-ups on your window browser and check the window is not hidden at the bottom of your
screen.
Next to each document you would like to add, select ‘Upload’.
Navigate to the document you would like to upload, click the document, and select ‘Open’.
Your document will then appear in the system.

Continue to upload each attachment and then select ‘OK’.
Please note, you won’t be able to submit your application unless all mandatory documentation
is uploaded. After you have pressed OK, your documents will be listed on your application.
Answer the remaining documents in the section, including where you heard about the vacancy
and tick to accept the terms.
Select Save when you have added all information.

Answer Application Questions Select ‘Edit’. Answer the required questions and select ‘Save’.
Submit Application After you have completed all sections, confirm all areas of the Checklist have been completed.
If any fields are incomplete, there will be a red cross next to the section and you will not be
able to submit your application. Go back to the applicable section to complete.
When all sections are complete, there will be a green tick next to each section on the
application checklist. Select ‘Submit Application’.

You will then be given your applicant reference number.
Viewing the status of applications
To view the status of your application, login to the system and select ‘My Applications’ on the
left side of the screen. Your applications will be listed. The status of your application can be
viewed next to each application.

Withdraw an Application
If you decide to withdraw your application for a vacancy, login to the eRecruit system and
select ‘My Applications’ on the left side of the screen. A list of your applications will open.
On the right side of the screen next to the applicable application, select ‘Withdraw Application’.
You will be asked to enter a reason for withdrawing your application. Add your reason and
then select ‘Withdraw Application’.
Confirm you would like to withdraw your application by selecting ‘OK’.
The status of your application will update to ‘Withdrawn’.
