Dark Fabric: 1.2m
Light Fabric: 1.2m
Center Contrast: 25cm
Binding: 50cm
Backing: 2.9m (or 1.45m square of backing)
Batting: 1.45m square (any choice from the Sew Easy batting range)
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Sewing machine in good working order
Rotary cutter, Sew Easy 10° wedge ruler, Cutting mat
100% cotton thread
Quilters ¼” tape
¼” foot for your sewing machine
Walking foot for your sewing machine
If embellishing the lighter wedges:
25m braid, Madeira embroidery thread
and Avalon fabric stabilizer

Cutting InstructionsAll strips are cut across the width of the fabric, selvage to selvage,
unless otherwise stated. All rotary cut pieces include a ¼ seam
allowance.
Dark Fabric: Cut 2 strips 14½”
Cut 2 strips 8½”
Light Fabric: Cut 2 strips 14½”
Cut 2 strips 8½”
Binding: Cut enough 2½” bias strips to create approx 4m of binding.
Mark the cutting template on your wedge ruler, by placing a strip of ¼”
tape across the ruler just above the 17¼” mark. (Diagram 1)

To Create WedgesFrom the 14¼” strips: Lay the wedge ruler across the strips matching
the lower cut edge to the smaller end of the ruler and the upper cut edge
to the bottom of the ¼” tape. Rotary cut the first wedge shape. Rotate
the ruler 180° and line the cutting edge against the last cut and the top
and bottom marks as previously advised. Cut the second wedge.
Continue in this manner until you have 18 dark and 18 light narrow
wedges. (Diagram 2)

Remove the ¼” tape from ruler.
Set up ruler for the small wedge by placing a strip of ¼” tape across the
ruler just below the 16¾” mark. (Diagram 3)
Using the same method as for cutting the narrow wedges, cut 18 dark
and 18 light short wedges from from the 8½” strips.
If embellishing the lighter fabric that should be completed now before
assembling.

Piecing InstructionsWith the right sides together, from one light and one dark fabric join a
small wedge shape to a narrow wedge to form the full-length wedge.
Press seams to the dark fabric.
Matching seams, join 9 alternate coloured wedges to form a ¼ circle.
Repeat to make 3 more ¼ circles. Press seams. (Diagram 4)
Using the circular template provided use your favourite method to
applique the center circle in place. Press seams.

Finishing The QuiltFrom the backing fabric make a piece 57” square. Press seams to
one side.
Layer the backing, batting and quilt top and baste as desired.
Quilt by hand or machine.
Binding: Join the binding strips, using bias joins, to make one long
piece. Fold the width in half, wrong sides together and raw edges
together. Sew the binding to the right side of quilt matching the raw
edges. Turn the fold of the binding to the back and hand stitch into place.
Add a label with your name and details.
