2) Remove the pressure bar indicated in Figure – 2 with an Allen key and replace it with the
white plastic guide.
3) Loosen the mounting posts, but do not remove.
4) Slide the embosser over the post. The assembly should sit firmly on the rails.
5) Tighten the mounting posts. Make sure the drive pulley engages the in-feed belt.

6) Attach the trigger on the back rail, before the embosser, using any of the series of holes
present. The trigger must be set in the correct position to emboss the bag at the
right moment. See section 3.2 for procedure.
2.2 REMOVAL
1) Before removing the embosser, disconnect the photo eye or micro switch.
2) Loosen the socket head cap screws located in the mounting posts with an Allen key. It is
not necessary to remove the screws.
3) The embosser will easily lift off.
4) Replace the mounting posts and covers.
3.0 OPERATION
Before you begin using the ER20, you must complete these steps:
1) Set the type
2) Set the emboss position
3.1 SETTING & CHANGING THE TYPE
To lot or date code your package, characters must be present in the embossing wheel.
This is accomplished by first removing the embossing wheel, then loading the desired
characters.
1) Use procedure 2.2 to remove the embosser.
2) Looking at the embosser from an inverted position you will see two shafts: one is the
driver shaft that supports the red backup roller and the main drive gear; the other shaft
supports the embossing wheel.
3) Still looking from the same perspective, you will also see a lug nut on the bottom of the
embossing wheel. Loosen the nut with an Allen key, and the wheel will easily slide free.
See Figure – 4 for details.

4) Select your desired characters.
5) Turning your attention to the embossing wheel, you will be able to see an internal disk
that can be rotated. This disk is a cover plate that holds the characters in place. By
rotating the disk, an opening will become apparent and if characters are present, they will
easily slip out. You can now empty existing characters and insert desired new ones.
6) Load your desired characters in a reverse fashion to how you want them to read. For
example, E-M-P-L-E-X is loaded X-E-L-P-M-E (with the letters also reversed). Once
this is completed, slide the cover plate back cross the letters so the opening in the plate is
covered. You will know it is firmly back in place when you hear a ‘click.’ Reposition the
embosser back on the machine. You are now ready to set the emboss position.

3.2 SETTING THE EMBOSS POSITION
1) VERTICAL ADJUSTMENT
Vertical adjustment of the embossed code is achieved by repositioning the emboss
wheel. Loosen the set screw located on the emboss wheel with an Allen key, the wheel will
slide freely along the shaft, thereby repositioning the code vertically on your bag. Ensure the
backup roller is also moved the same amount as the emboss wheel.
2) HORIZONTAL ADJUSTMENT
Horizontal adjustment of the embossed code is achieved by repositioning the triggering
mechanism. Depending upon your order, the ER20 will have either a micro switch or photo-
eye mechanism.
The micro switch is fixed to the back side of the rails. There is no need to remove the unit
for this adjustment. By firmly holding the base of the arm stationary, you will be able
to bend the free end of the arm quite easily. This repositions the trigger, thereby
allowing different horizontal placement of the embossed code on the bag.
The photo-eye is also fixed to the back side of the rails. This unit may be repositioned to
adjust the horizontal placement of the embossed code.
