Definition of ER:It is a reception management area working 24 hours a day in the hospital for a patient victim with a serious or unwaitable medical or surgical condition in need of an immediate management.

.

Aim To restore victim life by:Preventing further damage to the body.Classifying patients condition and manage accordingly.Starting the line of medical care.

.

Flow chart - Patient entry - Triage nurse - main ED doctor - Waiting area - Screen room ED - X ray LABORATORY - Pharmacy

Mode of operationIt receives all acute traumas and life threatening cases by implementing the principles of the triage system 24 hours a day and providing emergency medical service (EMS).

.

Staff cover the work8 hours duty shift (except in Ramadan 6 hours shift).Staff should not leave their shift until second shift members present and endorsement of patients is done to them.

.

There is a doctor In-charge of the shift, who is responsible for all of the staff in ED in every shift in the absence of his superior.ED doctors must see both medical and trauma cases male or female.

.

No change in schedule should be made except for valid reason and should be written in an official forms to be requested at least a day before working hours.

.

Functions It is divided in 2 sections Male and Female side.

.

Bed capacityTWO male beds and TWO female beds.-One CPR room.!-two dressing rooms.

.

ER necessary equipments (the minimum)1-Crash cart.2- Suction machine3-Monitor.4-Defibrillator.

.

5-Pulse Oximetry6-Surgical instruments, separate septic and aseptic wounds7-Chest tubes of different sizes

.

8-Intubation equipment (Adult).9-Intubation equipment for (children).10-All emergency drugs (e.g. valium, ADRENALINE etc). c.f. Essential ER medication list

.

11-Portable X-ray machine.12- Abdominal lavage set.13-Infusion pumps.

.

14-Thrombolytic therapy.15-Wall Oxygen or cylinder.16- Wall suction or suction machine.

.

17-Immobilization device: hard board, C-Spine collars, etc.18-Poison antidote.19-Delivery set

.

20-Set for IV Access

.
