WHERE DO I SHARE?
You can find an opportunity to share about Compassion sponsorship almost anywhere—in a doctor’s waiting room, a supermarket, your children’s school, your workplace, and of course, at your church. Keep your sponsored child’s photos and letters, along with child packets, in your purse, briefcase or backpack so that you’re always prepared to share.
WHAT DO I SHARE?
Share your story. Talk about the changes in your sponsored child’s life and the opportunities that are possible because of your sponsorship. Share photos of your sponsored child and the letters you’ve received. Include talking points from “Why should someone sponsor a child with Compassion?” and “What kind of relationship will the sponsor have with the child?” (See below and next page.)
WHAT DO I ASK?
Say, “Would you please end the wait for _______ (state child’s name from child profile) or another child available for sponsorship by signing up to sponsor today?”
HOW DOES SOMEONE BECOME A SPONSOR?
Some of the sponsorship resources in this guide have tear-off forms to sign up to sponsor a child. You can also encourage potential sponsors to sign up online at Compassion.com or call (800) 336-7676, Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. MT to speak with a Compassion representative.
WHY SHOULD SOMEONE SPONSOR A CHILD WITH COMPASSION?
Our three Cs distinguish us: We are Christ-centered, child-focused and church-based. As a Christ-centered ministry, our commitment to Him drives all we do. As a child-focused ministry, we support each child’s spiritual, economic, social and physical development. And as a church-based ministry, we partner with 6,500 churches in 26 countries. We believe local churches are uniquely qualified to understand their community’s needs and reach children in poverty.
S P O N S O R S H I P S P O N S O R S H I P
WHAT DOES SPONSORSHIP ACCOMPLISH?
For just $38 a month, a sponsor can help release a child from spiritual, economic, social and physical poverty and enable him or her to become a responsible, fulfilled Christian adult.
Every sponsored child receives the opportunity to hear the gospel and learn about Jesus; educational support; health care, hygiene training and supplementary food if needed; a caring and safe Christian environment to grow in self-confidence and social skills; personal attention, guidance and love.
University of San Francisco professor Dr. Bruce Wydick and two colleagues conducted a two-year independent study of Compassion sponsorship in six nations. Among other findings, the study reported that Compassion-sponsored children were:
• about 35 percent more likely to secure white-collar employment • 30 to 75 percent more likely to become community leaders • 40 to 70 percent more likely to become church leaders
WHAT KIND OF RELATIONSHIP WILL THE SPONSOR HAVE WITH THE CHILD?
Each Compassion-sponsored child has only one sponsor. We encourage sponsors to develop meaningful relationships by exchanging letters, photos and prayers to encourage their sponsored children. Sponsors can even visit them!
Sponsors receive regular updates on their sponsored child’s development so they can witness the impact they are having in his or her life.
The love and support of sponsors serves as a constant reminder to children of God’s love and provision and helps to restore the hope that poverty has tried to steal from their lives.

WHO IS COMPASSION?Founded in 1952, Compassion is the world’s largest Christian child development organization, presently assisting more than 1.3 million children in 26 developing countries. Our mission is to release children from poverty in Jesus’ name and enable them to become responsible, fulfilled Christian adults. Our approach is unique because we are:
CHRIST CENTERED. We ensure that every child hears the gospel and has the opportunity to trust Jesus. We hope to lead children into a lifestyle of faith and commitment to God.
CHILD FOCUSED. Compassion engages children as complete individuals, addressing their spiritual, economic, social and physical needs.
CHURCH BASED. All of our programs are carried out by the local church in the communities where the children we serve live. We minister to children regardless of religious affiliation.
COMMITTED TO INTEGRITY. Compassion consistently receives high ratings from independent auditing firms and watchdog organizations. Every year, more than 80 percent of total expenditures are spent directly on children’s programs.

Defeating a pandemic
Compassion found me in the midst of
frustrations of poverty and death. I was poor
and had no hope for tomorrow. Compassion
enhanced my life and [the lives] of my
children. My life has changed after receiving
the nutritious food at the project. We have
a future. My son is getting all the necessary
medical attention. He is in school. Compassion
has strengthened us with hope. God bless
Compassion and sponsors.”

Haiti Recovery Efforts BRING HOPE FIVE YEARS AFTER QUAKECompassion is on track to complete construction of 30 new earthquake-resistant school buildings in Haiti by January 2015. The construction is funded by Compassion’s Disaster Relief Fund in response to the 2010 earthquake. Children, babies and mothers enrolled in Compassion’s programs will gather in these locations to learn, grow, and find safety and care for years to come. Without these new schools and other relief efforts, Compassion would have lost the ability to serve an estimated 25,500 beneficiaries in Haiti. Compassion’s disaster relief efforts, which began the day the earthquake hit and continue to date, have helped serve more than 60,000 Haitian families.

You did it. You initiated a presentation and ordered child information packets to share Compassion’s sponsorship opportunity with others. But now some packets remain. What to do with them?
First, we know that child packets have expiration dates, so you are welcome to keep those packets and seek sponsors for those children until the packets expire. But if that is unlikely or the expiration date is fast approaching, please keep these facts in mind:
• UNSPONSORED CHILDREN ARE WAITING. The sooner we can get the children’s names back into the unsponsored pool the faster we can give those kids another chance at sponsorship. This is always the primary goal.
• THERE IS A COST INCURRED BY COMPASSION TO HAVE THESE PACKETS SHIPPED BACK TO US. So if the packets cannot get back to Compassion by the due date printed on them, please do not send them. After this due date has passed, Compassion will automatically deconsign expired packets through regular processes.
• IF THE DUE DATE IS FIVE DAYS OUT (OR MORE) THEN DO MAIL THE PACKETS BACK TO COMPASSION. The packets will be manually deconsigned and returned to the pool ahead of
the consignment schedule. By returning these packets ahead of the due date, they can go out to the next event more quickly.
• YOU CAN ALSO RETURN CHILD PACKETS THROUGH AN EASY INTERNET PROCESS: For 20 or fewer packets, you do not need to return the packets if you use the following link and fill out the online form with the child information: forms-compassion.com/deconsignment/
