Precision Products Team – AMS InSIghT

RDO Equipment Co. is pleased to introduce the new W235 windrower from John Deere. The new features are impressive and aim to improve the performance and ease of operation for the grower.

One of the major new features is the integrated auto steer that uses two new systems. It now has the capabilities to auto steer up to 17 MPH, which takes the stress off the operator when he is traveling at high speeds cutting grass, alfalfa, or windrowing grains.

With this new steering system, the main drivers are for the main steering and the rear tires for fine tuning of higher speeds. This makes for a smooth auto steer system. In addition, the W235 is AutoTracTM ready, so a customer is able to add a 3000 receiver and 2630 display. The windrower also has a similar cab to the S series combine. The unit offers more horsepower and a constant RPM speed for the rotary cutting head, which ensures a consistent windrow. A new cooling package allows a grower to operate in dirtier conditions longer without having to stop and clean the radiator.

Matt Smith Takes New Role in Watsonville

Matt Smith has been named Aftermarket Manager in Watsonville. Matt joined RDO Equipment Co. in 2012 as a Parts Specialist. He has had exposure to all departments in the store, including time spent as a Transactional Account Manager.

“I am excited about this role and the opportunities to continue to develop our relationships with customers. The Watsonville location is a great area with tremendous potential for growth,” commented Matt.

Southwest Ag Stores “Partner with Employees” at Friendly Softball Game

Two Southwest Ag loca-tions demonstrated the “Partner with Employees” Core Value by a friendly competition of softball. Yuma and Imperial em-ployees, along with their families, coordinated a softball game against each other.

Yuma’s “The SWAG” beat Imperial’s “The Green Machine” the first game, but Imperial came back with a victory on the second game.

The stores plan to play each other again soon, and hope to make it a regular event.

“Both employees and family members had a great time, and it was a great opportunity to get to know each other better,” commented Shelbie Harris, Yuma Receptionist.

Webster Participates in Holiday Food Drive

The Webster store participated in their second annual food drive for their local food pantry. Everyone at the store was encouraged to bring nonperishable food items to donate.

“It really feels good when we all can get together and donate such a large amount of food to those in need during this holiday season,” commented Vern Johnson, Store Manager.

When team members delivered the food they had donated, the food bank was extremely appreciative. This is a holiday tradition the store will continue.

In today’s farming practices, producers are using technology and precision ag in crop insurance more than ever – and adjusters are following that trend by utilizing precision reporting. The successful use of precision ag really happens in the off season.

FAQ’s when using your precision ag equipment:

1. What happens if I overlap rows I’ve already planted/harvested? Will I record more acres than I’ve actually planted or will my yield be affected?Since machine and implement overlap often occurs during normal field operations, many precision farming systems can be configured to account for any additional system calculated crop area. As an added benefit to John Deere crop insurance customers, your John Deere crop insurance agency has software that will account for this overlap and make necessary adjustments to comply with crop insurance guidelines. When this occurs, it is possible that crop area totals may be slightly different than those of the farm mapping software or displayed on the system’s monitor.

2. What happens if some of my planting data is incomplete due to lack of precision farming technology on all my equipment or spotty GPS coverage?For any missing field data, you must supply additional records for areas that were not covered by equipment with precision farming systems. These additional records must indicate the information (production or crop area) from only those areas that were NOT covered by precision farming data. If records only exist for the entire field and do not contain details for the unmonitored area, it may be necessary to have total farm production records available, which will then be allocated appropriately.

3. Can Apex merge data between two combines that both have yield monitors?Yes. You can unload multiple GreenStar data cards into ApexTM that document-ed any field operation, seeding, or harvesting. If the proper Client, Farm, and Field selections were entered by the machine operators on various equipment, the data will integrate during the unload data process.

4. Now that I can use my precision farming records for crop reporting, can I throw away all my paper records such as scale tickets or bin measurements?No, you should not discard any paper records as they are useful information for other farm management decisions. Also, if the precision farming records are determined to be insufficient due to calibration, missing data, etc., you may need to supply the adjuster with your paper records to resolve any questions.

5. How often do I need to calibrate?a. Calibrating yield sensor: According to Risk Management Agency (RMA) rules, you must calibrate based on the owner’s manual recommendations. In the case of John Deere equipment, the owner’s manual suggests calibrating the mass flow sensor once per year for every crop harvested. However, to optimize accuracy, we suggest confirming the calibration as crop conditions change significantly during harvest season. b. Calibrating maps (post-calibration): Post-calibration is done in the Farm Management Software, such as ApexTM. Since this activity cannot create yield data where harvest data from the system does NOT exist, the producer must keep in mind that additional and more traditional production records (e.g. scale tickets, bin measurements, etc.) may be required to fully document crop production if the yield monitor was not used over every field. In order for post-harvest calibration to be effective, harvest documentation must exist from the yield monitor along with acceptable records from scale tickets, bin measurements or feed records. Both methods of production records must be available to the claim adjuster if post-harvest calibrated yield maps are to be used.

6. Can I use my precision farminginformation for claims?Yes, as long as your precision farming system meets the requirements of both the Crop Insurance Handbook (CIH) and Loss Adjustment Manual (LAM). Please contact us for a specific list of requirements.
