For the last three summers, our past has been helping to shape our future, in the form of our Summer Children’s Ministry Intern, both of whom have grown up in our congregation. I asked Natalie Morris to share a word about her experience before she headed back to Statesboro for her sophomore year at Georgia Southern. Be sure to read Natalie’s thank you to the congregation inside, as well. Nothing is Ever Easy. When I agreed to be the summer coordinator this year, I knew it was going to be fun, but also challenging. Gearing up for Vacation Bible School took long hours and lots of hard work. If someone told me I would be spray painting over 50 cardboard boxes to make a giant Lego wall, I would call them crazy, but it happened and the kids loved it! In the same ways this summer has compared to school for me. Nothing is easy about taking notes and preparing for a test, but working hard and studying for hours produces that “A” that you work so hard for. Throughout this summer, planning these Wacky Wednesdays and seeing the kids have so much fun at whatever activity was planned for the week certainly receives that “A” at the end of the night. If there’s one thing I’ve learned this summer, it’s that my job was one of the many important jobs in the church. I was responsible for shaping and influencing the lives of not only the children of our church, but also kids throughout our community. Building a solid foundation for these children is really all that matters. Whatever happens now affects these children’s lives in the future and, as just a summer intern, that concept was a lot to take on, but in the end, completely worthwhile. I have had the most rewarding summer being able to get to know most of these children on a personal level. I also know that this wasn’t something I could do alone and that I didn’t have to. The constant love and compassion from the people of Epworth help shape the lives of each individual child that comes through the doors of Epworth just as much as I did. Thank you for this amazing opportunity to lead and serve these children this summer! Natalie Morris

miSSiOnSOur Mission Focus for August - Wynnton Neighborhood Network. Canned meat, fruit, tomatoes and mac & cheese are hard to keep on the shelf at the Food Bank and especially needed. Other items needed: canned corn, green beans, peas, pork & beans, baked beans, black beans, spaghetti sauce and noodles. Items needed for Thanksgiving Baskets: stuffing mix, Jiffy cornbread mix, evaporated milk, yams, pumpkin pie filling, chicken broth, cranberry sauce, cream of mushroom soup, cake & brownie mixes. Any monetary donation is always appreciated. Our GOAL is 300 items. If each person attending worship brings just 3 items, we can easily reach our GOAL. In the month of July, we sent 100 UMCOR Health Kits to Sager Brown in LA. Thanks to all who contributed to this mission project! Box Tops for Education & Campbell Labels - We continue to collect for Allen Elementary and Vashti Children’s Home throughout the summer months, so keep saving your labels. Place them in the box on the Mission Cart or in the church office.Feeding Our Neighbors at Rosehill UMC - Thursday, July 31, beginning at 3:30 PM. People are needed to prepare the meal, serve and clean up. If you would like to volunteer, see Barbara Stubbs. Coffee News - The Trustees are moving our coffee ministry into the Whitehurst Welcome Center for easier access and fewer interruptions of classes and groups as they meet. Gifts from any individual, class or group toward the purchase of the new coffee maker, which will work with a direct line of water, are welcome. You can donate through the offering plate or office with the designation, “Coffee.”
