FROM THE PRINCIPAL

CROSS COUNTRY What a fantastic event it was last Friday. I took my usual position at the bottom gate and it was great to see the children run by. Some were huffing, some were smiling, some were exhausted but all were having a go. I would like to share with you a part of an email I received from a parent following the event.

‘Just wanted to write a quick email to say that we really do have a fantastic school - it just warmed my heart to see Year 5 buddies holding hands and running with their Kindy kids, helping them navigate the course, helping them and encouraging them as they do their first cross country run. It was really fantastic!!’

Well done everybody who was part of the organisation, both staff and parents. I would especially like to congratulate Mr Sherley and Mrs Yoo, our organisers, on a job well done.

LMBR (LEARNING BUSINESS MANAGEMENT REFORM) As I have indicated previously the whole education department is undergoing a massive change in the way it operates its finances and manages students. Training involving our office ladies and me has now commenced. It will impact our normal business, although we will try to minimise the effect as much as possible. It will involve a change to the way we do our financial business with vendors and parents. It will necessitate the closing of the school to all financial transactions for a period of a week or even longer. As we become more familiar with the systems and processes we will continue to keep our school community informed.

SAFE AND HAPPY BREAK This will be our last newsletter for the term. I would like to take this opportunity to thank every member of our school community who has contributed in some way to the effective operation of our school. It is you people that make our school the wonderful place that it is. I

wish everyone a safe and happy break. I look forward to seeing you all back, happy and healthy next term. Mr John Ford Principal

STAGE 2 ROCKS WALKING TOUR The Stage 2 Rocks Walking Tour Excursion which was scheduled for today has been postponed due to the wet weather. A new date will be arranged for students to attend the excursion in Term 2. A note will be sent home early in Term 2 with the details. The activities planned will remain the same and permissions will remain current unless you contact the teacher. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. Stage 2 Teachers

HARMONY DAY ‘EVERYONE BELONGS’ We will celebrate Harmony Day tomorrow, Tuesday 5 April. Harmony Day is celebrated world-wide and provides an opportunity for all Australians to:

• Say “no” to racism • Celebrate our many successes as a diverse,

harmonious multicultural society; and • Re-commit to our common values of

respect and goodwill towards fellow Australians from all cultural backgrounds.

This year in Australia there is a special theme for Harmony Day. It is “Diversity is our Strength.” On Tuesday, all students are invited to wear a national costume, a community, sport or organisation uniform – (scouts, guides, rangers,) their favourite sport’s team colours or something orange – (the designated Harmony Day colour) to show support for the values of Harmony Day.

Two special “Harmony Day” certificates will be given in each class to two students who demonstrate respect and goodwill at all times.

Throughout the week special orange “Eppies” designed by the SRC will also be given out.

On Tuesday, we will also acknowledge “The National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence”. This annual day provides a focus for all schools to say “Bullying No Way!” and to strengthen their existing message that bullying and violence are never justified.

Please remember to continue to bring in canned food for the Exodus Foundation. This is our school’s way of supporting those people less fortunate in our community.

Please join in, celebrate and have fun.

TOGETHER, WE ‘CAN' MAKE A DIFFERENCE ON HARMONY DAY.

ANZAC DAY ASSEMBLY This Wednesday, 6 April we will be holding our ANZAC Assembly at the ANZAC memorial wall and garden (weather permitting, otherwise it will be in the Hall). It will commence at 10am and all members of our school community are invited. If you would like to bring flowers to place at our memorial wall during the service, that would be appreciated. Thank you in advance, Mrs Christine Croker

INTENTION TO APPLY: YEAR 5 ENTRY TO AN OPPORTUNITY CLASS IN 2017 Opportunity classes cater for highly achieving academically gifted students who may otherwise be without classmates at their own academic and social level. These schools help gifted and talented students to learn by grouping them with other gifted and talented students, teaching them in specialised ways and providing educational materials at the appropriate level. Applications for opportunity class placement are considered mainly on the basis of the

Opportunity Class Placement Test results and school assessment scores. The Opportunity Class Placement Test will be held on Wednesday 27 July 2016. If you would like to have your child considered for Year 5 opportunity class entry in 2017, you need to apply soon. You will need to apply on the internet using a valid email address (not the student’s email address). Detailed instructions on how to apply online will be available from 26 April 2016 in a printed application information booklet and at www.schools.nsw.edu.au/ocplacement. The application website opens on 26 April 2016 and closes on 13 May 2016. No late applications will be accepted. There are no paper application forms. If you do not have internet access, you could apply at a public library. If you have a disability that prevents you from using a computer, you can contact the Unit for assistance after 26 April 2016. You must submit only ONE application for each student.

PLASTIC CUTLERY Many children bring lunches to school that need to be eaten with a plastic spoon and or fork. Please ensure that children are provided with these when needed. Please note that children are not to bring metal cutlery. Thank you in anticipation of your co-operation.
