They are handy and can be brought at home for further study.

They provide much information about the topic.

Economical. Updated. Handy and can

be brought anywhere.

It cannot be updated, unlike online resources.

It will eventually be outdated.

It looks so plain and dull and doesn’t seem to catch interest.

The lesson was about nations and their economies. The reference books provide the information the students are looking for, like GNP, GDP, import and export products, etc. The books were informative, though we must consider that every year the figures change and the information on the books will eventually get outdated.

Assuming the sources of the handouts are updated, it becomes a very effective tool for learning. It is at the same time economical and handy.

OUR ANALYSIS

1. What do you think prompted the teacher to choose the materials/learning resources that he/she used?

The topic involves a lot of facts and figures and using charts or Manila paper would cost a lot of materials to be fully presented to the students. Providing handouts and reference books answer the concerns of cost and availability of references. Each of the students gets a copy of the handouts.

2. What difficulty, if any, did the teacher experienced? How can this be managed?

Most of the time, the students are busy looking at the handouts and their focus was not anymore on the teacher’s discussion. It can be managed by keeping away the handouts until they are needed.

3. Over-all, were the learning resources/materials used effectively? Why? Why not?

Yes. Since the questions given by the teacher were adequately answered by the students, then it shows that the teaching resources/materials are effective in facilitating the learning of the students.

REFLECTION

Raterta:

If I was the teacher, I would have used the same teaching resources / materials. I believe it is the most effective way of teaching the topic. Aside from that, I would also encourage the students to look for additional resources from the internet and other printed materials.

Lidres:

The topic was vast and covers a very broad scope. The teacher was correct in using reference books and handouts to facilitate the lesson about countries and their economies. If I was the teacher, I would also research more about the present figures to ensure I won’t be giving any false or outdated information to the students.

Galvez:

If I were the teacher, I will use a teaching aid which will catch my students’ attention. Different kinds of teaching aid like colored charts which will make them more interested in the topic or PowerPoint presentations that make the discussions more comfortable are more effective than dull materials.

Aguilar:

The teacher should have started the activity by grouping the students so that each one would have a share of the tasks to be done. I can see that the teacher cannot control all of the students due to their large number and the room isn’t very conducive to learning because of some distractions. Most of the people at the back are not responding to the directions of the teacher.

Cagobcob:

If I were in the place of the teacher, instead of using visual aids in teaching the lesson, I will use Audio- Visual presentation like LCD Projector so that their attentions will be on the screen. They will be all interested. Though Audio-Visual presentation is expensive at least it will really be effective to the learning of the student. Not to mention their enjoyment looking to the colorful examples on the screen.
