Cooperating School: Tanauan School of Fisheries                                                                     TARGET:                      At the end of this activity, I will gain competence in determining, understanding and accepting the learners’ diverse backgrounds: and in relating the learners’ background to their performance in the classroom.

An Observation Guide for Individual Differences

Read the following carefully before you begin to observe. Then write your observation report on the space provided.

1. Observe the class to see the differences in abilities of the learners.

We all know that every learners have differences n their abilities. The fast learner were very active in the class while, the slow learners quite when there is a discussion.

 2. Try to identify the students who seem to be performing well and those

that seem to be behind.

Those students who got high scores in their quizzes, answers all the question of the teacher and always participate to the class discussion are fast learner students. And the students who are afraid to answer the question given the teacher rae the slow learners.

3. Validate your observations by asking the teacher about the background ( family, socio-economic, presence of some learning)

According to my resource teacher those students that belongs to

the fast learners have a happy family. They do not have problems in terms

Page 2: Episode 3

of financial while the students who belongs to slow learners have a broken family and they also have financial problems.Because those students are lack of money they can not follow to the fast learners.

.4. Observe the behavior of both the high achieving and the low –

achieving learners. Note their disposition, pace accomplishing tasks, interaction with teacher, and interaction with others.

The high achieving learner always accomplished her task on

time. Participate in class discussion and she is always appointed as a leader because of her potentialities. While the low ahieving learner was very quite and also he did no participate in the class.

                          5. Observe the teachers’ method in addressing the individual learning

needs of the students in his/her class.

The teacher gives some varied activities that suit for the ability of the students. Through this the teacher can determine what she needs to improve to his / her student and help to gain the skills and potentials at his / her student.

ANALYSIS:  1. Did your observation match the information given by the teacher? Were

you able to correctly identify who among the students performed well and who did not? What behavior helped you identify them? (Volunteering to answer, responding to teacher’s directions, etc.)

Yes, I have noticed that the slow learners are very quite when the

teacher conducts recitation activity, and they can not speak when the teacher called them. While the fast learners participate actively to the class and sbmitted their projects on time.

 2. Describe the differences in ability levels of the students in the class.

Is there a wide gap between the students who are performing well and those that are not?

As I have been observe there is no gap between the students who perform well or not. Maybe some of them are fast, average and slow.

Page 3: Episode 3

Even though they have  different ability they can still cope up to the lesson presented to them.

 3. Describe the methods used by the teacher in handling the students’

differences in abilities. How did the students respond to the teacher?

Some different activities are given to the student depending on the             capability of the student then the output of the students wuold be the teacher needs to consider to supply the students needs. These activities help the teacher to know what more activities she should be given to her student to improve the talents and skills.

                                                                                                            REFLECTIONS

1. Recall the time when you were in the elementary or high school. Recall the high and low achievers in your class. How did your teacher deal with differences in abilities?  Was your teacher effective?

I can say, that my teacher is effective in dealing with the different kinds of students. Because during my elementary and high school days my teacher gives low level question to the learners who belongs to the low level achievers. While in the high level achievers my teacher gives high level question .This kind of question is more complicated then low level question.

 2. With the principle of individual differences in mind, what methods

and strategies will you remember in the future to ensure that you will be able to meet the needs of both the high and low achievers in your class.

I think I should start first with knowing them one-by-one through their autobiography and diaries as a requirement for my subject. Through that I can easily get an idea on what kind of activities that will best suite for them.

   REFLECTIONS:

1. Imagine yourself organizing your classroom in the future. In what grade/year level do you see yourself? What routines and procedures would you consider for this level? Why

If I will organized my classroom I will arrange all the furniture’s

found in the classroom properly.I will get a cabinet as a container of the books, files and teaching aids. Then I will place my table beside the door. Then I will arrange the chair by rows. I will put some plants inside the classroom and the wall display will be post on both side of the classroom. I

Page 10: Episode 3

will make sure that my classroom is well lighted and well ventilated to make my student comfortable in their second home.

 2. Make a list of the rules you are likely to implement in this level. Why

would you choose these rules?

 1.   Implementation of wearing proper uniform and I.D.  2 .  Maintain the cleanliness and orderliness of the room.

3 .  The student should come early.

I choose those rules because I think it will help the students to

have more self discipline. And also it helps to provide better classroom atmosphere..

 2)      Should learners be involved in making the class rules? Why?

Yes, because the student is one of the element in the

classroom .And also the students or the learner were the one who will follow and the beneficiary of that said rules.
