Epic Family Meeting

In this special preview of Chapter 10 of An Apocalypse of Ice, get a never before-seen glimpse into the inner workings of the Stark family elders! The set-up: Jan Tellerman recently revealed to her boyfriend, Julian Stark, that she works as a Theorist and is one step away from total stark raving madness, robotic hand and everything. This left the family in a precarious position. As we know, Science is one of the more annoying restrictions. I would rather like to have lights, electronics, and, oh, THE ABILITY TO MOVE SIMS OUT (at least on Tuesday). However, this would require arranging a marriage between Jan and the young Stark heir, Will. Whatever will the family do? What would George R.R. Martin do? I think I know the answer to the second question: watch the family elders babble about OMG HONOR without knowing that Will is pursuing a romantic relationship with Sabriel. As for the answer to the first question, you will find that within the following slides.

“Let this Epic Family Meeting come to order.”

“Um, we can’t have an epic family meeting without our little brother, Mal.”

“Oh. Right.”

Page 3: Epic Family Meeting

“Actually, we probably can,” Chris said.

“Really?”

“Yeah. We know that as soon as Jan said she was a theorist, Lily was jumping up and down about a Science lift. We’re supposed to have a discussion and consider not going with this idea, but she’s moving into this house, and there’s nothing we can do about it.”

Page 4: Epic Family Meeting

“So we can just not have this meeting and go back to doing what we were doing?” Brandon asked.

“Probably.”

“Sounds good. I still have to make about $50,000 to become permaplat. You’re a lucky duck, Mal.”

Page 5: Epic Family Meeting

“No, we absolutely have to have this meeting.” Julian had taken his seat. “You’re talking about me here.”

“Darn. A game of mahjong would be ten times more fun than the upcoming display of indignation and the resurrection of every single grievance you’ve had since you became a teenager,” Mal muttered.

“Let’s list the pros and cons of marrying Jan in,” Chris said. “Pro number one: It is freaking HARD to top a career. I know. I wanted to top this career, but it took me forever and a day to (a) find a job, and (b) get to the top. Someone who’s almost at the top? Huge advantage.”

Page 7: Epic Family Meeting

“Good point there. Julian, do you have a con to contribute?”

Page 8: Epic Family Meeting

“No, actually. You may remember that you’re talking to someone who spent THREE AND A HALF WEEKS trying to top a career, despite having all the necessary skills and going to work in a good mood each day.”

“But she’s your girlfriend.”

“But I agree with Chris. We also need to factor in what happened to Mom—her whole life working toward something, just to have it taken away.”

Page 9: Epic Family Meeting

“You know, Mom was really hot.”

“Moving on now,” Mal said, trying to regain control of the epic family meeting.

Page 10: Epic Family Meeting

“Hey, I’ve got a brilliant idea. If there’s another scientist on the verge of madness, maybe we could arrange Will’s marriage to that person.”

Page 11: Epic Family Meeting

“HI! I’M S--ALAYNE! I’M AN INVENTOR! I’M ALREADY MAD AND I WANT TO BE YOUR VERY BEST FRIEND!”

Page 12: Epic Family Meeting

“…No.”

“If we have to set Will up with someone who’s about to lose her mind, better the crazy we know than the crazy we don’t.”

“Also, her jaw looks just like mine,” Mal said. “Creepy.”

Page 13: Epic Family Meeting

“So, we agree on something. Epic Family Meeting adjourned.”

“No! I still haven’t agreed to the marriage proposal! Er—not like that.”

Page 14: Epic Family Meeting

“Chris, didn’t you know a mad scientist?”

“Yes. His name was Benjamin Long.”

“So we could set him up with Sabriel.”

“Would this be a bad time to mention that I dated him before I knew you?”

“We could not set him up with Sabriel, then.”

Page 15: Epic Family Meeting

“This sucks,” Julian said. “You’ll rule out Ben because Chris was dating him before she was with you, but you’re going to force me away from Jan now?”

Page 16: Epic Family Meeting

“Yes. Also, there’s a voice babbling in my head about how we’ve already married in his face and that would make three Fortune Sim heirs in a row. Apparently, that’s a bad thing.”

“Lily’s interfering again,” Chris muttered from off camera.

Page 17: Epic Family Meeting

“This is all going to end really badly, isn’t it?” Brandon asked.

“Yeah.”

“Okay, we’ve reached consensus on something. Epic Family Meeting adjourned.”
