Live BandsSi Cranstoun has been honing his vocal talent for many years. He has created a series of unbelievably catchy songs which really emphasise Si Cranstoun’s foot tap-ping expertise as well as most important-ly a voice that literally stops you in your tracks. Si’s distinctive northern soul voice has seen him compared with legends such as Sam Cooke winning a huge number of fans around the world.

With their powerful sound, this 17-piece big band plays the great music of the famous Swing orchestras of the 30s and 40s. Original arrangements as well as rarities from Artie Shaw, Chick Webb, Benny Goodman, Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey and many others thrill dancers and music fans alike.

JUmpin’ Up

Doc Scanlon ’s International All Stars are a powerful 8-piece en-semble that plays Hot Swing Jazz of the 1920s, 1930s and 1940s. Their song list includes the great songs of George Gershwin and Irving Berlin as well as the Hot Jazz of Louis Armstrong, Fats Waller and Benny Goodman.

Gentlemen & GangstersGentlemen & Gangsters play hot jazz with all the flair and sophistica-tion of true gentlemen, coupled with the ruthless brutality of hardened gangsters. Like a devious conspir-

acy from a bygone era, this shady syndicate of jazz kingpins plot for world domination, spreading infec-tious jazz music.

Their music is an explosive mixture from the repertoires of Blues, Swing, and Rock’n’Roll, but above all from 50s Jive. Their main reference are Louis Jordan, Louis Prima, Sam Butera, Wynonie Harris, Roy Brown but also the Italian Renato Carosone and Fred Buscaglione. Like their role models they combine energetic and highly-gifted musicians with the incredible voice of their charismatic front man.

Their musical repertoire is based on Rhythm’n’Blues, Jive, Boogie Woo-gie, Swing and Rock’n’Roll and strongly influenced by unreleased songs and revisited versions of clas-sic masterpieces from Muddy Wa-

ters, Ray Charles, Louis Prima and Little Richard. Under the leadership of Sugar Daddy, the band plays with high energy and impact and put up a fascinating and engaging show.

The Nine Pennies bring back the sound of the era of the greatest dance orches-tras and revive such stars like Beider-becke, Whiteman, Tumbauer or Gold-kette. A great group for great music!

With a hot mixture of Boogie Woogie, Blues, Rock’n’Roll and acrobatics this remarkable duo ensures excitement and a lot of groove. Ulli Venus and Ste-fan Eberle let the audience feel their passion and joy when playing the hottest music that ever was invented for the piano and the dance floor.

FunTAsten

Doc Scanlon’s Cool Cat Combo and special guest Jackson Sloan play authentic Swing Jazz and Jump Blues with an unending spirit of joy and optimism. Their style starts from Traditional New Orleans Dixie-land Jazz and continues through the swinging Big Band sounds and Jump Blues. On this evening, they will com-bine forces with one of England’s most fervent devotees of 40s and 50s American culture, vocalist Jackson Sloan. Together they will fuse Jump Blues, Jive, Swing and Rockin’ Roots music into a heady cocktail.

Sugar SullivanBarbara Billups &

Barbara Billups won 3rd place in the Lindy Championships at New York’s Harvest Moon Ball in 1958. After that she became Sonny Allen’s partner who won the Lindy Cham-pionships that same year. Together

with Sugar Sullivan, Barbara was one of the four young ladies of “Sonny Allen and The Rockets”. The Rockets, a song & dance revue, grew out of the danc-

ing at New York’s Savoy Ballroom. They traveled across The United States and Canada, entertain-ing packed audiences

in hotels and nightclubs everywhere.

In 2012 Sugar and Barbara were among the first group of induct-ees in the International Lindy Hop Hall of Fame.

Sugar Sullivan’s career spans 70 years as a performer, choreogra-pher, teacher and profes-sional dancer since the age of nine. Sugar was a mem-ber of the Original Jazz Dancers, a distinguished group of Lindy Hoppers and Hoofers from Harlem’s hey-day. Sugar has been featured with the Harlem Blues & Jazz Band, Cab Calloway’s Hi-De-Ho Orchestra, Duke Ellington Or-chestra, Count Basie Orchestra, and Panama Francis and his Savoy Sultans among others. She won the Lindy Championships at New York’s Harvest Moon Ball in 1955. Sugar has been a huge inspiration to the dance world.

At the famous Savoy Ballroom in the 1930s dancers enjoyed showing off their hottest new dance steps in weekly contests. In this spirit and tradi-

tion the Rock That Swing Festival runs various open contests in the dance styles of the Swing and Rock’n’Roll era.

As in the Savoy the competitors will strive to impress the audience aiming for the loudest cheers in order to win the battle for the greatest honors

and best prizes.

The OrganizersHome of the Happy Faces

With their knowledge, energy, commit-ment, and lifelong passion for the Swing dances Marcus and Bärbl have contribut-ed enormously to the Swing dance com-munity. Their teaching and performanc-es have been influencing many dancers worldwide. Before the time of DVDs and YouTube their instructional VHS videos were one of the first world-wide sourc-es to learn the various styles of Swing dancing. In all those years they have con-

tinuously grown the community and in-troduced many new international talents through the events they have created.

Since December 2011 they have oper-ated their own dance studio in the city center of Munich—the Vintage Club. Together with their team of international-ly respected teachers they offer regular classes, workshops and dance parties.

2016 marked the 25th year of their successful dance partnership. 2017 will be the 20th year of Killer Boogie, a routine that spread around the world with more than 10  million YouTube clicks.
