AUTISM A guide for donors

Page 2: Envision Center "Do" Brochure

The incidence of autism is on the rise.

Statistics indicate the prevalence of autism

spectrum disorders (ASD) is increasing at a

rate of up to 17% annually. This highly complex

developmental disability is affecting more and

more children and families in the SW Michigan

area every year. Unfortunately, these families

have had few, if any, options for local treatment.

Until now.

Support the new Envision Center and you’re supporting SW Michigan’s first full spectrum Autism treatment program.

With autism on the rise, the Envision Center is providing greatly needed services right here in our community. I’m proud and pleased to support their efforts.

Dr. Joe Schwartz, donor

At the Envision Center, we offer the

comprehensive individualized treatment

necessary to address the many facets of ASD.

We offer the resources to address each child’s

needs — from those mildly affected to those

facing severe developmental challenges.

Most importantly, we offer all this where it

matters most; right here in SW Michigsn, all

under one roof, close to home and family.

But we need your help.

Many Questions.One Answer.

What is the face of today’s autistic child? 83%

of children with ASD are boys. 81% are white.

But whatever their race or sex, children with

autism live lives set apart. They have difficulty

communicating and connecting with others.

They strive to form the everyday social bonds

most of us take for granted. It’s a frustrating,

often lonely, existence. But it doesn’t have to

be this way.

At the Envision Center, we treat the broad

range of Autism Spectrum Disorders:

• Classic Autism: Considered the most severe

type of ASD. People with Classic Autism have

severe difficulty interacting socially. They

often show no affection and shun emotional

and physical contact with others.

• Aspergers Syndrome: A person with

Aspergers can exhibit a variety of

characteristics and the disorder can

range from mild to severe. Children

show deficiencies in social skills. They

compulsively cling to rituals, getting upset to

any change in their routines. They also have

great difficulty in reading body language and

social cues.

• Child Disintegrative Disorder: Children

impacted by this start to regress between the

ages of two and four. Their communications

skills, social behavior, and fine motor skills

can all be impacted.

• Rett Syndrome: Occurs mostly in females

and is characterized by poor head growth.

Early symptoms include loss of muscle tone,

problems crawling and diminished eye

contact.

• Pervasive Developmental Disorder Not

Otherwise Specified): This includes

people who exhibit many or all different

types of ASD and do not fit within any of

the disorders above.

A timely solution to a growing problem

With your support, the Envision Center

helps families living with autism find hope.

They find the proper treatment to address

the specific challenges their children face.

Early intervention has proven to result in

a positive outcome. They gain access to the

very best care, delivered by experienced,

trusted professionals who understand the

many aspects of autism. Simply put, families

discover answers to problems they would

otherwise struggle with for many years.
