Environmental Workforce Training Program
No question: Finding a job is difficult. Competition is high and even entry-level positions
demand increased skill levels and technical knowledge. Participating in the
Environmental Workforce Training (EWT) Program may give you the edge you need to succeed.
Developed by Earth Conservancy as part of its mission of environmental and economic
revitalization in northeastern Pennsylvania, the EWT Program offers a sequence of courses
designed for individuals looking to enter careers in the environmental, surveying, or construction fields.
The 2½-month curriculum, taught by faculty at Penn State Wilkes-Barre, provides you with new
skills and resources to help you build a successful future in the workplace and in life.
The EWT Program has been funded in part by a cooperative agreement with the

Dedicated to Mine Land Reclamation, Conservation, & Economic Development in the Wyoming Valley
Successful completion of EWT Program requires participants to attend all days of the training cycle.
In order to apply to
the EWT Program, you’ll need to meet the following
eligibility requirements:
Resident of northeastern Pennsylvania
High school graduate or GED-holder
Aged 18 or older
US citizen or authorized worker
Classify as an unemployed, underemployed, or dislocated worker
Hold a valid driver’s license
Have reliable transportation
Have email access
Consent to drug test and background checks
Like to work outdoors in all conditions
Possess strong math skills
Able to perform tasks involving physical labor
Able to commit to full 2½-month program
Agree to one year of follow-up interviews
Preferred entry for veterans
Step 1 | Eligibility:
If you are eligible, download, complete, and send in an application (available at
www.earthconservancy.org). We’ll then ask you to come in for an interview, after which you’ll need to complete
several assessments at PA CareerLink Wilkes-Barre. Enrollment decisions will be made at the end of January 2019.
Step 2 | Apply:
Through the EWT Program, you’ll acquire a range of skills, building your
confidence and improving your opportunities for employment. Courses are taught by faculty from Penn State
Wilkes-Barre and will include:
Step 3 | Coursework:
The EWT program may lead to a variety of entry-level
positons in engineering, construction, remediation, environmental cleanup, and more, with
starting salaries averaging $14-19/hour. Job opportunities may include:

The EWT Program is a $4,289 value, with costs underwritten in part by a grant from the USEPA.
All courses will be held at the Penn State Wilkes-Barre campus in Lehman, Pennsylvania.
With our partners, we’ll work with you to help find you employment after the program ends.
You’ll leave the EWT Program with
20.5 hours of continuing education credits from the Pennsylvania State University
