Environmental sustainability club (E.S.C)
Transcript of Environmental sustainability club (E.S.C)
We first heard about the competition quite a while after it had already started,
but we were enthusiastic about it as it would hopefully help with the environmental sustainability.
First, we sent out a form to our peers and it was going to be a chill out club and
then we realised it was not really to do with environmental sustainability, so we
got rid of it, but our thought proses of the chill out club was about sustaining
our mental health.
We started off with a plan which was to start a club for the school, the club would
inform others about environmental sustainability.
We moved our idea online due to COVID-19, which worked better as we could
share videos easier and could include our community eaisly.
We joined together with schools eco club team to gather ideas. We joined calls with our deputy head and the head
of Eco club.
We made our first video which was about what our club was going to be about. This
video was in the whole school assembly so it could spread the word of
what we were doing.
We contacted teachers who could help us get a better understanding of what our
school do to help with this cause.
We made a team called E.S.C (Enviormental Sustainability Club) in
Microsoft Teams and put our first video in there and a short paragraph explaining
what our club was.
We added the school community to the team so they can watch our video. After the video we decided that we wanted to post out a form to the school to ask if the video was informative and if they would watch the next video. We couldn't put too many questions as it was only an
introduction.
We started answering the school's questions about the club. We
started creating informative but fun videos about some of the key factors of
how we can help the environmental sustainability.
After each video we would post a form out asking questions about if they found it interesting, what did they take away, any
suggestions and if they would watch the next video.
We have now posted nine 2-3 minute videos and 9 forms, we think that even after the competition we are going to
carry on with what we are doing to help the sustainability of the environment.
Video 1- "There are many ways to
reduce food waste: buy
frozen food, freeze food in
batches/portions, or give it
to an animal if it is out of
date“
“That there are so many
different ways to cut down
on food waste "
“That the freezer is great
place to keep food for
longer when it is going out
of date“
“That it is really important
not to waste food as it has
a massive impact”
We had gotten so many great responses about what they took away from the video. These responses showed us how we could improve in our videos and to show us if we need to add more information. We found that from our responses, we had made the videos fun and informative and creative for doing it at home. We did all the editing and videos on our own as we are all at home because of our lovely friend COVID-19.
Video 2-
“This is a great idea! I will
definitely start to grow
some of my own fruit and
veg at home.”
“I now know a general
knowledge of how I can
help with environmental
sustainability.”
“I did not know until now
how many things you can
grow in all of the different
seasons, I will defiantly be
trying this out.”
In this video we highlighted what we do at school in order to grown
our own food, we also share tips on getting started with growing out
own food and what things you can grow in different seasons! Overall,
the purpose of this video is to encourage people to grown food, even
if it just cress on their windowsill as that will still make a massive
impact.
Impact and outcomes
• We found it very useful to have feedback from each video individually, however we wanted a final outcome. We made a final form for our fellow pupils (and some teachers) to fill out, these were some of our of responses…From our deputy head-
mistress – “Inspiration!”
“They were very useful and informative, I learned a lot from them and think they are a great idea to make people more aware, I also liked how they
were short but gave you a lot of easy to understand information and weren't boring.”
“A greater understanding and appreciation of our
planet and what we can do to save it.”
