EnvironmentalProblems inLuxembourg
Comenius project 2010-2012
The environmental problems in Luxembourg:
Air pollutionWater pollutionNoise pollutionHigh quantity of vehicles AgricultureWaste problem
The quality of air• emission of atmospheric pollutants by our industries, cars, …
• Ozon and the greenhouse effect
The quality of waterOur rivers (for example the Alzette) and lakes (e.g Stauséi)
are polluted by liquid manure, wastes and sewage.
Noise problems In Luxembourg we have a big problem with the noise. Too
much noise caused by aviation, road transport, railway transport, by industries and construction sites.
High quantity of vehicles
Too many cars have significantly increased the energy consumption in recent year.
Thus we always need more petrol and fuel gases pollute our air more and more.
Agriculture
• In our agriculture a variety of herbicides are used. This leads to the destruction of the fauna and flora. Moreover, many useful insects are killed. Last but not least the contaminated water then flows into our rivers and pollute them in turn.
Waste problem• Luxemburg is a throw away society. Too many
people throw away their garbage instead of putting it in a garbage collector. People throw paper, empty bottles out of the car while driving or throw the chewing gum on the ground. Even in our forests many hikers simply leave their garbage in this natural environment.
Solutions for Luxembourg: Renewable Energy
• Pressing issues such as climate change, increasing dependence on oil and other fossil fuels and the rising energy costs are forcing us to change our energy production policy. Relying more on renewable energies will help to solve part of our problems.
