M I S S I O N

�Environmental Directorate plays a key role towards the environmental issues and

environment protection within the Port of Durres area. It is leading from national

environmental legislation as well as from International Conventions, in order to assure a

healthy and ecological environment for current and future generation, based on the

principle of sustainable development.

�Marine and Land Environment Protection cooperating with Port Security, Harbor Master

Office, Cost Guard, Regional Environment Agency.

�Facing with marine incidents from oil spill in aquarium, fire in port area, as well as

epidemiological emergency, managing the situations in accordance with Port Emergency

Plan PEP.

�Periodical Monitoring of the environmental parameters on the water, air quality and the

noise level. This is done by a trained staff and laboratory equipment of a modern laboratory

which will be accredited conform the foreseen legislation.

�Monitoring of Environmental Management Plan EMP in order to minimize environmental

impacts generated during the implementation of the projects and operations.

1.Aquarium Cleaning of Port of Durres

Authority

( Marine Cleaning SH.A 2011- 2015 )

This project includes:

�Aquarium cleaning from waste generated by

ships.

�Aquarium cleaning from oil waste generated by

ships.

�Transfer and recycle in conformity with the

legislation.

�Facing with emergency marine incidents with

oil spill response.

The implementation of this project aims:

Realization of environmental management

requirement at port in order to preserve an

ecological equilibrium from environmental

impacts, generated during the implementation of

the projects and operations.

CONTRACT MONITORING

2. Outdoor Environment Cleaning in Port

Authority Administration.

( FIONA 2006 ltd. 2010 – 2017 )

Implementation of this project, aims:

�It is guaranteed by a competent operator the

required quality for the cleaning of outdoor

environment administrated by Port Authority.

�The management with effectiveness and

flexibility of the A.P.D outdoor environment, in

accordance with the requirement of this

3. Indoor Environment Cleaning of Port

Authority

(FIONA 2006 ltd. 2009 – 2014)

Implementation of this project, aims:

It guarantees of the required quality for the

indoor environment cleaning, by a

competent operator.

-It increases the quality of the service “Cleaning

of indoor environment of P.D.A”, selecting the

contractor firm based on the best practice and

technology.

4. Implementation and Monitoring of the

contract “Electronic system and the equipment

for environmental monitoring”

(KRIJON ltd. 2011 - 2012)

Through implementation of this project:

- It is established a monitoring framework for

environmental indicators in the territory of

Durres Port Authority.

- It is trained the personnel who will carry out

sampling, analysis and interpretation of

environmental parameters.

- We create conditions to have an accredited

laboratory and to establish a database with

environmental parameters.

- To preserve the water, air and noise level

within the standards, we will monitor

periodically, as required by European Bank for

Reconstruction and Development EBRD in

order to fulfill EU standards.

5. Implementation and Monitoring of the

contract: : "Purchase, supply and green of

Port of Durres Authority premises"

(SHPRESA Ltd.. 2011 – 2012)

Through implementation of this project:

- Environmental management requirements

are implemented in order to assure an

ecological balance of environmental impacts

generated by the implementation of projects

and operations.

- The Port has been provided with a fascinating

view, turning it into a more livable space,

which includes besides green, urban interior

elements such as decorative vases and

containers for the waste collecting.

- It realizes an ecological balance of the environmental

impacts generated by the implementation of the

projects and operations within Port.

OPERATION MONITORING

We have approved the Environmental

Management Plan EMP in order to minimize the

impacts generated during the implementation

of the development projects and operations.

Since port is located near the urban zone, the

monitoring of generated impacts asks for a

specific attention.

The Specialists of Environmental

Directorate:

- Carry out the Environmental & Social

Monitoring during the activity of the

stevedoring companies.

- They give the duly recommendations as well

as compile an Action - Plan in order to

minimize the generated impacts.

The monitoring is carried out in compliance with the

standards required by European Bank for

Reconstruction and Development EBRD, for all the

activities at Durres Port.

ENVIRONMENTAL LICENCE

EMERGENCY FACING

•We have prepared “Port Emergency Plan PEP”

according to all possible scenarios of the

incidents that occur during the commercial

activity as well as the implementation of

projects in Durres Port.

•This Plan, the Notification Scheme as well as

the Training Calendar, has been prepared in

cooperation with Security Force of Durres Port,

Police of Fire Protection and Rescue, and has

been sent to the Ministry of Transport – Civil

Emergency Sector.

STAFF TRAINING

�Training of the Environment Directorate staff

with the aim of Environmental Audit of the

activities and projects implemented in Port of

Durres, in accordance with principles of the

performance required by EBRD.

�Participation in ECOPORT 8 – Project, on Eco

– Management of the PAN EU corridor ports.

•Participation in the workshop on “Technology

and Environmental Policy at ports”, in Antwerp

– Belgium, financed by APEC organization under

the auspices of Belgian Government.

� On May 2011, the Assembly of ESPO (Environmental

Sea Ports Organization) accepted the candidacy of

Durres Port Authority as an observer member.

� We are engaged in ESPO initiatives, including SDM –

Self Diagnostic Method of environmental

performance by completing the relevant forms and

review them under the suggestion of specialists.
