Briquette Manufacture in Kenya A pilot project is now running in Kenya to

encourage the use of briquettes to replace charcoal as fuel for cooking.

Briquettes cheaper than charcoal. Made from waste material. Provides Secondary School students with

Business Experience.

Briquette Manufacture in Kenya D1100 funding project with support by a

local NGO (Inter Climate Challenge) 120 schools are keen to take up the

manufacture of briquettes. Pilot Project shows strong take up. Clubs can fund : £150 per school.

Why is this so important?

D1100 embracing this Project will enable Kenyan Dept of Education to support the engagement of 2000 schools.

DfID now providing further support to give school leavers prospect of setting up briquette businesses.

BUT SCHOOLS NEED THE INITIAL TRAINING and EQUIPMENT TO HOLD THE STUDENTS ATTENTION.

relevance to Citizenship, PSHE and Financial Capability.

The role of Rotary in developing this initiative was: To secure initial feedback from schools

and local opinion leaders. Viz Bristol As a convener bringing together

businesses, local government and schools.

Acting as early sponsors with seed money encouraging other sponsors to follow suit.

Plans are progressing to provide 3 annual YGF Events in Bristol, Gloucestershire and Berkshire.

Your Club can form part of these initiatives or start a fresh initiative in another area.

The plan is to have a central resource to support local groups which will own the delivery.
