Debby Bird, the owner, opened the spa in December of 2002. "I decided to open my own spa because I wanted independence. I wanted to be in control of my own life and go as far as I wanted to go. I didn't want anyone stopping me from being as big as I wanted to be," she shared. Hands On Healing, originally located on W. Harding Way, specializes in wellness massages, skin care, and detox treatments. After 17 years at the same location, Debby decided to move to a new location, at 2111 W. March Lane, Ste. A5, which more than doubled her current space. "I'm excited that we can now provide it all," shared Debby. "We’ve always had the very best massage therapists and estheticians, but we were never able to provide the ambiance and space for more group services like bridal showers and couples massages, or seaweed wraps. We’ve expanded in so many areas, now we can give it all. You can even watch the sunset while you get your foot bath." To assist with some of the extra necessary funding for Hands On Healing's big move, Debby utilized the City's Small Business Micro Loan program. The loan helped her purchase furniture, massage tables, and other odds and ends that all add up when setting up a new space. "There’s so much I love about my business," said Debby. "This business is two-fold: It not only provides a service to the client, they walk in stressed and in pain, then they walk out happy and it’s very fulfilling in that sense. It's also been a vehicle for other women to open their own shop. Hands On Healing provides space to work, which has helped other women to gain their own freedom and independence."
