‘Entrepreneur India’, a monthly magazine published by NPCS, is aimed at simplifying the process of choosing the suitable project for investment. It makes business decisions easier and trouble-free by providing a list of right projects for investment. Unique among project investment magazines, ‘Entrepreneur India’ is dedicated to the business of identifying sound investment projects. Every issue consists of a new list of projects which are meticulously selected by the NPCS team after being screened on various investment factors. NPCS team, before labeling a project as ‘Right investment’, studies various aspects of investment like product demand, market potential, raw material availability, suitable location, payback period, costs involved and breakeven point. The importance of project identification is known to less and many a times, entrepreneurs spend substantial time and resources on project planning, execution and control, while little attention is paid to project assessment and selection. Such times lead to disastrous business decisions and often a project is declared a ‘dead investment’. Most entrepreneurs, these days, have the capital but not the expertise to shortlist a suitable project to park their money. And ‘Entrepreneur India’ helps remove such hurdles for a businessman to ensure successful ventures and expansions. Correct project identification is a herculean task for any entrepreneur who is willing to expand or venture and he is often faced with the dilemma of identifying a suitable project that has minimum risk to his capital and has high growth potential. Through this journal we aim to educate and enlighten entrepreneurs about such projects and provide them with an updated list of profitable ventures with its project profile and project cost estimation (i.e. Plant Capacity, Plant & Machinery Cost, Working Capital, Total Capital Investment, Rate of Return and Break Event Point). Also, the magazine provides a snapshot of NPCS activities in a month. It includes brief profiles of several market research reports, project identification reports and books published by the company. The magazine has nationwide reach and a substantial readership. We at NPCS, ensure that business ventures and expansions happen but only in the right projects and at the right cost.http://www.niir.org/contact/entrepreneur.phtml?comments=We+wish+to+receive+our+free+copy+of+Entrepreneur+India

the introduction of the blast refining method(Bessemer Process, 1855; Thomas-Gilchristprocess, 1878) and of regenerative heating(Siemens-Martin process 1865). Later, smeltingin the electric furnace has been introduced forthe production of certain high-grade steel. Iron isthe cheapest and most widely used metal. Itsannual production exceeds by far that of all othermetals combined. It comprises approximately93% of the tonnage of all the metals used. Ironmakes 5% of the earth’s crust, and is not foundin its elementary form, but in the form of chemicalcompounds with other elements in hundreds ofminerals of importance. It is the most wantedferrous metal having wide application in severalindustries. Iron plays a vital role in developmentof any country. Iron and its alloys specially steelare mainly used in civil and engineering industrieswithout which the entire mankind could not havecome to the modern age of high quality living.Iron ore is the most important raw material formaking pig iron, sponge iron and steel too. Tocater to different product needs, many steel plantsand ferro-alloys industries have been set up inIndia. Iron ore in different form is also used inother industries like cement, foundries, paint andglass.

USES & APPLICATIONIron ore is used mainly for making pig iron, sponge

iron and steel. Iron and steel together form the largestmanufactured products in the world and each of thementers into each branch of industry and is a necessaryfactor in every phase of our modern civilization. Pureiron has relatively few and quite special uses. Ingot

IRON ORE MININGAn ‘Ore’ may be defined as the aggregate of

minerals from which a desired constituentmineral can be extracted with profit. The mostused of all metals “Iron” is believed to be theninth most abundant element in the Universe. The tough stuff “Iron” makes up the earth’s coreand is considered to be the base of civilization. The concentration of iron in the structure of theearth ranges from almost 80% in the inner coreto about 5% in the outer crust. Iron is not foundin the free elemental state. As technologyadvanced during the middle Ages, the trench wasreplaced by a small shaft furnace, and from thisthe present day blast furnace has developed. Theuse of waterpower to operate the blast wasintroduced during the 14th century. Theconsequent considerable increase in furnacetemperature resulted in the production of ironwith a much higher carbon content than formerly, namely cast iron. This was not malleable but itwas soon discovered how this might be convertedinto malleable iron by a second heating in anample supply of air (refining). The iron industryreceived a great impetus at the end of the 18thcentury, when the demand for iron began toincrease as a result of the invention of the steamengine and the railway. The shortage of woodcharcoal led to the introduction of coke, as fueland as reducing agent. Coke was first used in theblast furnace by Abraham Darby, in 1732. Therefining process underwent fundamentalimprovements during the 19th century, through

been similarly unstable, though it has increasedoverall at an annualized rate of 5.5% to about 43.2%of revenue in 2013. Despite a volatile performance, tremendous growth over the period has ultimatelyoffset any declines, leading to estimated averageannual revenue growth of 14.6% in the five years to2013. Growth for the Global Iron Ore Mining industryhas primarily occurred on the back of higher iron oreoutput and prices. Strong growth in large emergingnations, such as China and India, has driven thedemand for iron ore and underpinned higher pricesduring most of the five-year period; as a result, industry revenue and profit have expanded rapidly.“The industry’s major players, such as Vale and RioTinto, have all benefited from these positiveconditions, which have allow these companies toacquire several smaller companies over the periodand increase market share,” says Kruchkin.Nonetheless, the industry retains its low-to-moderatemarket share concentration. Total iron ore productionworldwide is expected to reach about 2.87 billionmetric tons in 2013 (compared with 2.10 billion metrictons in 2008). More than half of this total will betraded internationally. Trade occurs primarilybetween regions rather than within regions, althoughthere is some intraregional trade in Europe and North

iron is galvanized for roofing, siding and tanks. In theform of corrugated pipe, it is used for culverts. Becauseof its relatively high purity, it is suited to oxyacetylenewelding, both as material to be welded and as weldingrod. It is used in vitreous enameling. Its good ductibilitymakes it suitable for deep drawing operations as inthe manufacture of appliance part, e.g. washingmachine tube; relatively low electrical resistance andhigh magnetic permeability lead to its use in manytypes of electrical equipment, generator fields, magnetic parts of relays, magnetic brakes andclutches. Iron ore is also used in ferro- alloy, cement, foundry, vanaspati and glass factories.MARKET SURVEY

The Global Iron Ore Mining industry’s financialperformance has been highly volatile over the pastfive years. The industry weathered through triple-digit revenue spikes and double-digit declines. Aftertwo years of extraordinary growth in 2010 and, to alesser extent, 2011, revenue contracted in 2012 dueto plummeting prices of iron ore. However, accordingto IBIS World industry analyst Agiimaa Kruchkin, “In2013, industry performance is expected to recover onthe back of rebounding iron ore prices.”Consequently, industry revenue is expected to grow4.7% to total $264.3 billion over the year. Profit has

Glass cannot be shaped by brute force alone, asis the case with metals or plastics; it must bepersuaded into shape by encouragement orconstraint so that, like a perverse mule, itsmovement complies with its own inclination andyet is in the right direction. Therefore allamorphous materials are not necessarily glasses. The products obtained in all these processes giverise to X-ray diffraction patterns, which lackcrystalline features such as sharp diffractionpeaks. Their electron diffraction patternsgenerally consist of one or two diffuse hallows. But many such amorphous materials do notexhibit glass transition. Therefore it is assumed, unless stated otherwise, that glasses are onlythose amorphous solids which are obtained bythe super cooling of melts. When a liquid is cooledfrom a high temperature to its meltingtemperature, (Tm), it generally solidifies to acrystalline product. It is only rarely that melts donot crystallize when they are cooled slowly. Therefore in order to obtain a glass the rate ofsuper cooling has to be such that crystallizationis bypassed. This requires rapid quenching inorder to bypass crystallization. Thus the coolingor quenching rate, Q, which is a kinetic parameter

in automobiles. Fully tempered glass is usedtraditionally in place of other glass products inapplications requiring increased strength and reducedlikelihood of injury in the event of breakage. Thebuilding industry, motor vehicle industry and certainmanufacturing industries find tempered glass iseffective and economical in a wide range ofapplications. Fully tempered glass can satisfy federal, state and local building code requirements for safetyglazing in such applications as doors, side lights, shower and tub enclosure, and interior partitions. Itis also used in storm doors, patio-door assemblies, and escalator and stairway balustrades. As a glazingproduct it is used in windows and in spandrel areas(for wind pressure, small missile impact and thermalstress resistance). Special building applicationsinclude sloped glazing, racquetball courts, skylights(see below), and solar panels. Any conditions orrequirements imposed in the applicable safety glazinglaws and building codes limiting such special usesshould be determined prior to glazing.MARKET SURVEY

The glass industry represents a number ofdefinable product segments: (a) flat glass includingFloat Glass, (b) glass containers and hollowware, (c)vacuum glass, (d) domestic and industrial glassware,

is of great significance for glass formation. Whilein connection with annealing the residual stressin the glass was high if the holding temperaturewas high and the subsequent cooling rapid.Thermal toughening exploits this situation to thefull. The holding temperature is made as high asthe glass will stand without sagging and thecooling rate made as rapid as the glass will standwithout breaking under the temporary chillingstress. Infact, the sagging temperature is slightlyexceeded and the ware usually shows sign pfdistortion tong marks.

USES & APPLICATIONA fully tempered glass is used in most modern

glass facade, where glass strength is required. A fullytempered glass is recommended for windows that areon high floors or skylights where people are requiredto stand on top for cleaning. Tempered glass is alsoused in areas where risk of thermal breakage or impactbreakage is high, fully tempered glass should be usedso as to avoid risk of injury. Glass strength is alsorequired in point fixed glazing, bolted and patchesfittings. Toughened glass is used when strength, thermal resistance and safety are importantconsiderations. The most commonly encounteredtempered glass is that used for side and rear windows

(e) crystal glass, (f) fibreglass, (g) glass wool, (h) TVpicture tube glass shells, and (i) laboratory glass. Mostof the glass products have both industrial andconsumer usages. Laboratory glass is a minorconstituent. So are fibreglass and glasswool - althoughfibreglass is gaining momen-tum increasingly. Theindustry is growing at around 8% per annum.Consumption per capita of glass in India is only about0.8 kg compared to 3.5 kg in China, 5.2 kg in Thailand,12 kg in Malaysia and 2.5 kg in Indonesia. The totalorganised producers in the glass market have aturnover estimated at over Rs 40 bn, represented bya fairly large number of suppliers. The dominance ofChina as a major market supplier of glass productshas been increasing with economic liberalisation andrising foreign investment. China accounts for aboutone-third share in the worldwide demand of flat glass.India has one of the lowest per capita flat glassconsumption but with rapid growth in domesticconstruction and automotive market, it presents asignificant opportunity for global majors, which haveentered the market in a big way. India exports about13,000 tonne of glass per month to the Middle East,African countries, Europe and South America. Therapid increase in the demand for flat glass in thedomestic market has resulted in a cutback in exports

by as much as 60% in the last couple of years. Thetwo main entrants in the glass industry in the recentyears have been Float Glass (a technological variantof flat or sheet glass) and crystalware. Fibreglass andglass wool are still a small turnover industry but hasbeen operating in India for quite sometime. Flat glassis segmented into conventional sheet glass and FloatGlass. Float Glass is stronger (by 25%) than normalsheet glass. It also has a much higher degree of opticalclarity. Other varieties include figured and wired glass.

During the early Vedic period, Ayurveda wasperhaps the only system of overall healthcareand medicine. It enjoyed the unquestionedpatronage and support of the people and theirrulers. Ayurveda proliferated the most during theVedic period. The Vedic period is followed by along medieval history marked by uncertainpolitical conditions and several invasions fromoutside the country when Ayurveda faced utterneglect and its growth stunted. Unani medicinewas brought into India during this time andgained momentum with the extensive support ofMughal emperors. With the British invasion,Allopathy was also brought to India and soon gotacceptance for swift results. Today, withcontinuous research and development,Aallopathy dominates the Indian health caremarket. Healthcare industry in India is dividedinto two segments - services and manufacturing. While the manufacturing segment consists ofboth medical equipment manufacturing industry

2010-11 to 66 per cent by 2015-16. The growth indemand for healthcare delivery services will be mainlydriven by a combination of various factors includingchanging demographics, increasing income levels, greater health awareness and increasing healthinsurance coverage. Investments of over Rs 5.6 trillionrequired to attain healthcare delivery benchmarksIndia lags behind several global benchmarks forhealthcare delivery. In terms of both healthcareinfrastructure and manpower, India ranks below evendeveloping countries like China, Thailand, Sri Lankaand Vietnam in terms of both beds to population andphysicians to population ratios. In order to meet theglobal median of 24 beds per 10,000 population, asper WHO statistics, investments of Rs 5.6 trillionwould be required over the next 5 years. The growthin the healthcare services in the country is primarilydriven by the 350 million strong middle class peopleaspiring for quality healthcare services, thusincreasing international confidence on India as apotential, high quality and low cost medical tourismdestination. According to the WHO report, Indianeeds to add 80,000 hospital beds each year for thenext five years to meet the demandsof its growingpopulation. High quality talent pool, proven trackrecord, favourable government policies, abilitytodeliver healthcare services at low cost and highquality infrastructure has put India on the globalmap for outsourcing various healthcare relatedservices. This has been further intensified byGovernment of India’s recent budget declarations, where enough emphasis has been given on settingup of healthcare delivery infrastructure mainly in Tier– I & Tier – II cities.

PAN CHUTNEYThe Betel (Piper betle) is the leaf of a vine

belonging to the Piperaceae family, whichincludes pepper and kava. It is valued both as amild stimulant and for its medicinal properties.Betel leaf is mostly consumed in Asia andelsewhere in the world by some Asian emigrants,as betel quid or paan, with or without tobacco, inan addictive psycho-stimulating and euphoria-inducing formulation with adverse health effects. The betel plant is an evergreen and perennialcreeper, with glossy heart-shaped leaves andwhite catkin. The betel plant originated from

South and South East Asia (India, Philippines,Bangladesh and Sri Lanka). The ubiquitous red-stained lips and blackened teeth associated withbetel chewing are sported by one-tenth of thehuman race and one-fifth of the global population.Even though it has long-established roots in Asianculture, history of the custom relies mainly onoral tradition, probably because it is mostprevalent amongst the agrarian population. Sincethe eleventh century, however, the royal use ofbetel in South-East Asia is described in writtenrecords which provide a rich source of detailsabout the protocol of sharing a quid with a kingand the use of betel in royal ceremonies. Eventhe name given to the custom by Europeans,‘betel-nut chewing’ is a misnomer. The term isincorrect because an areca-nut, not a betel-nut,is chewed. Numerous English languagedictionaries continued to retain ‘betel-nut’as anentry until recently, but today most referencesto the custom are defined correctly under ‘betel’.The boundaries extend to the eastern coastlineof Africa to Madagascar in the West; Melanesiato Tikopia (in the Santa Cruz Islands) in the East;southern China in the North, and Papua NewGuinea in the South. Betel chewing is firmlyembedded in the traditions of South-East Asiaand enjoyed, even revered, on several levels. Akey to its widespread patronage, though, lies inits use for other purposes besides chewing. Thebetel quid is also used as a medicine to cure avariety of illnesses ranging from headaches toskin infections. Betel is also believed to be apowerful link in contacting supernatural forcesand as such is intricately entwined with the ritesof animistic worship which give it magicalqualities. A betel quid has three essentialingredients and others may be added dependingon availability and preference. Additionalingredients are a status symbol and the greaterthe number and the more exotic, the higher theowner’s prestige. Other additions listed in earlySanskrit texts were mainly spices, the luxuries

Pineapple Pan Chutney especially inHYDERABAD sells like hot cake. It gives the freshflavoured of the fruit. Manufacturers used to exportthis particular brand with others to Gulf Countries. At present they used to export around 20 MT permonth. They expected to increase by 10% veryshortly. The total production of different Pan chutneyis around 500 MT. The requirement is about 3000MT. The Govt’s strict regulation on the use of Tobaccoproducts, the sale of these non-tobacco productsincreased by 20%. So it will be feasible to increasethe production of Chutney by setting up newproduction facility. The Pan chutneys are very popularamongst the Indian panwaris as thesecontain refreshing essentials in them. Manycompanies offer these chutneys in abundant flavors, packed in sealed containers that retains its qualityaspects and extends its shelf life. As we know thata chutney is a pungent relish of Indian origin madeof fruit, spices and herbs. Although originallyintended to be eaten soon after production, modernchutneys are often made to be sold, so requirepreservatives – often sugar and vinegar or chemicalfood preservatives like sodium benzoate – to ensurethey have a suitable shelf life. Mango chutney, forexample, is mangoes reduced with sugar. But panchutney prepared from premium quality ingredientsgive complete and long lasting pleasure suchas primed natural perfumed compounds, fresh flowersextracts, dried fruits made for the taste of diverseregional tang. It is available at very reasonable pricerange all across the globe to the clients. Basically thecompanies manufactured the pan chutney compoundof mouth refreshing elements. One of thebasic advantages of our Pan Chutney Compounds is

CALCIUM PROPIONATECalcium propionate is the calcium salt of

propionic acid. Another commonly usedname for calcium propionate is calciumpropanoate. Propionic acid is a natural acidpresent in small quantities in many foods. Infermented foods however, propionic acid can bepresent in high concentrations because it isproduced by fermentation bacteria. Also thebacteria in the large intestine produce propionicacid. The propionate (IUPAC name propanoate)ion is C2H5COO-(propionic acid minus onehydrogen ion). A propionate or propanoatecompound is a salt or ester of propionic acid.

USES AND APPLICATIONCalcium propionate is used as preservative or

antimicrobial, mainly against fungi. Typical usagelevels are at 0.1-0.4%. Calcium propionate is effectiveat neutral pH. Calcium propionate has a beneficialside effect in breads. Calcium ions are necessary forthe enzyme á-amylase to break down the starches inbread, making them available for the yeast top grow, and improving the texture of the bread. If enough ofthe amylose portion of starch is converted into sugar, retrogradion of bread is slowed down or prevented. There is no use limit give in food use besides GMP,but cost and off flavors will limit the amount of calciumpropionate used. As a food additive, it is listed as Enumber 282 in the Codex Alimentarius. Calciumpropionate is used as a preservative in a wide varietyof products, including but not limited to bread, otherbakery goods, processed meat, whey, and other dairyproducts. In agriculture, it is used, amongst otherthings, to prevent milk fever in cows and as a feedsupplement Propionates prevent microbes fromproducing the energy they need, like benzoates do.However, unlike benzoates, propionates do notrequire an acidic environment. Calcium propionateis used in bakery products. Cheeses, confections andfrostings, gelatins, puddings and fillings, and jamsand jellies. As it can be produced by bacteria used indairy production, no need for labeling might berequired in some applications. Calcium propionate isaffirmed as GRAS for use as an antimicrobial under21 C.F.R. 184.122 1 with no limitation on the level ofuse other than current good manufacturing practice(gmp). There is no obvious self-limit on the level ofuse. In commercial practice the amount of calciumpropionate used will be limited by cost and thepossibility of imparting off-tastes or textures to food

L-LYSINE FROMMICROBIALFERMENTATIONL-Lysine is an á-amino acid with the chemical

formula HO2CCH(NH2)(CH2)4NH2. It is anessential amino acid for humans. Lysine’s codonsare AAA and AAG. Lysine is a base, as are arginineand histidine. The å-amino group oftenparticipates in hydrogen bonding and as a generalbase in catalysis. (The å-amino group (NH3+) isattached to the fifth carbon beginning from theá-carbon, which is attached to the carboxyl(C=OOH) group. Common posttranslationalmodifications include methylation of the å-aminogroup, giving methyl-, dimethyl-, andtrimethyllysine. The latter occurs in calmodulin.Other posttranslational modifications at lysineresidues include acetylation and ubiquitination.Collagen contains hydroxylysine, which is derivedfrom lysine by lysyl hydroxylase. O-Glycosylationof hydroxylysine residues in the endoplasmicreticulum or Golgi apparatus is used to markcertain proteins for secretion from the cell. Lysineis one of the essential amino acids notsynthesized biologically in the body. Children andgrowing animals have a high requirement oflysine, since it is needed for bone formation.Lysine is generally recognized as the mostdeficient amino acid in the food supply of bothman and domestic meat producing animals. Sinceanimal feed, such as grain and defatted oil seedscontain only small quantities of lysine, poultry, cattle and other live stocks are unable tosynthesize this amino acid. So it must be added

to these feed stuff to provide adequate diet. Theexcretion of small amount of alanine, glutamicacid, aspartic acid and histidine in a culture of E.coli. addition of ammonium salt in excess of thatrequired for growth resulted in increased aminoacid production. The principles of thefermentative method quickly gained acceptance, and systematic work soon began on theproduction of other amino acids. This markedthe birth of the amino acid fermentationindustry. The possible utilization of wild strainrevealed that many microorganisms, such asbacteria, yeast, filamentous fungi and actionmycetes, accumulated amino acids in culturecontaining a supplementary source of nitrogen. The biosynthetic pathways of most amino acidsare now well moved to metabolic control and itsbreak down, including the genus and speciesspecificity of the phenomenon. Protein productionby microorganisms rich in essential amino acidsare source both as a food supplement and as asource of amino acid. Fifteen amino acids werefound in cell hydrolyzate, of which arginine andL-lysine is the most abundant. Most naturalstrains cannot produce industrially significantamounts of L-lysine in the culture broth due tovarious metabolic regulation mechanisms.Alteration of these mechanism can lead to L-lysine accumulation.

USES & APPLICATIONLysine production for animal feed is a major global

industry, reached in 2009 almost 700,000 tonnes fora market value of over €1.22 billion. Lysine is animportant additive to animal feed because it is alimiting amino acid when optimizing the growth ofcertain animals such as pigs and chickens for theproduction of meat. Lysine supplementation allowsfor the use of lower-cost plant protein (maize, forinstance, rather than soy) while maintaining highgrowth rates, and limiting the pollution from nitrogenexcretion. In turn, however, phosphate pollution is amajor environmental cost when corn is used as feedfor poultry and swine. Lysine is industrially producedby microbial fermentation, from a base mainly of sugar.Genetic engineering research is actively pursuingbacterial strains to improve the efficiency ofproduction and allow lysine to be made from othersubstrates. The requirements of amino acids inanimals are well defined in various sets ofrecommendations such as those of NRC (NationalResearch Council), USA, etc. Requirements varydepending on the species and age of animals. Aminoacids should be supplied either in the form of proteinor crystalline amino acids in feed to meet

requirements. By comparing requirements and theactual amino acids present in feed, the order of‘limiting amino acids’ can be estimated. The orders oflimiting amino acids in pig and broiler feeds, composedof corn (or wheat) and soybean meal. Crystallineamino acids should be added to feed in the order oflimiting amino acids when the protein content of thefeed is reduced, which is the reason why DL-Methionine and L-Lysine HCl were initially introducedto feed. Now, with a more economic supply of L-Threonine and L-Tryptophan available, use of aminoacids has entered a new era, in which the use ofsecond and third limiting amino acids is taking off.For example, in the past two to three years, the annualgrowth rate of L-Threonine usage has been above 20percent. Since the protein level required by livestockis reduced further with the introduction of secondand third limiting amino acids, use of the first limitingamino acid will also be expanded.MARKET SURVEY

It can be said that the use of L-Lysine in animalfeed in India is largely in the introductory stage atpresent. The demand is bound to go up, in view ofthe compulsive need to optimise the quality of theanimal feed by the producers to stay ahead in thecompetitive market. The Indian demand for L-Lysineis estimated to be around 1000 tonnes per annum.Estimated growth rate in demand: 9 to 10% perannum. The global demand for L-Lysine Hydrochlorideis around 5,00,000 tonnes per annum with theprojected growth rate in demand of around 8.0%.Considering the fact that around 25,000 tonnes ofadditional capacity has to be created for L-LysineMono-hydrochloride to meet the global demand everyyear, it should be possible for the Indian project totake substantial share in the export market. Thiswould be so, in view of the fact that the Molassesbased L-Lysine project in India would be globallycompetitive from the point of view of the cost factors. The important aspects of the L-Lysine is that theproduct is based on cane molasses, which isadequately available in the country.

GLASS BOTTLE FORBEERA beer bottle is a bottle made to contain beer,

usually made of glass and come in varioussizes, shapes and colours. Dark amber or brownglass greatly reduces UV light from spoiling thebeer.[1] However, lighter colored bottles are oftenused for marketing reasons. The first nationwidestandardized beer bottles were introduced inSweden in 1886. The medium size, 330ml (11.6imp fl oz; 11.2U.S. fl oz), is still in use today, but isbeing phased out. Glass occurs naturally in twoways. When lightning strikes sand, the immenseheat developed causes the silica grainsconstituting sand to fuse into long tubes of glassymaterial called fulgurites. Glass is also naturallyformed when hot, molten lava from an eruptingvolcano is subjected to sudden, rapid coolingresulting in the deposition of under developedcrystals of glass, more rightly referred toasobsidian. The technique of glass making too is based on

similar lines. People learned to make the first glasscontainers about two thousand years ago. Moltenglass was collected on the ends of hollow iron pipesand then expanded by blowing through the pipes.Slowly, people learnt to blow molten glass intomoulds. Glass bottle making machines wereintroduced in the thirties. In the early seventies, environmentalists began arguing on the grounds thatglass bottles added to pollution. This led to the settingup of numerous recycling centers where people couldreturn bottles for reuse in other bottles. The entireprocess of bottle making is almost fully automated. An automated feeder separates a stream of moltenglass into individual gobs. These are then droppedthrough tubes in a moving track. The gob is shapedinto what looks like a short bottle with thick wallsand is called a parison. The parison is transferred toa final mould made of iron, which moves up andclamps around the glass. Air is blown into the glasstill it acquires the final shape of the mould. Thisprocedure involving expansion is called blowing. Thebottle is then released from the mould and annealed.MARKET SURVEY

sizes of glass. Therefore, competition is low andspecialization is high. Raw materials as sand (silica),limestone and soda ash are basic ingredients andare readily available in Pakistan. Pakistan’s glassindustry can plan for joint ventures for safety andautomotive glass, while it has been exporting glassto Afghanistan at an increasing rate. Export orienteddevelopment projects by the Ministry of IndustrialProduction and Special Initiatives (MIP&SI) wereannounced during 2010 and are worth 969.97 MillionRupees for Glass and ceramics industry. Anti-dumpingmeasures and penalties by the Government onChinese substitutes favorably impact localmanufacturers. The existence of many small andmedium sized players requires a period ofconsolidation in the Industry, allowing it to me morecompetitive and invest in technology to boost itsexport potential. Ceramic product lines include a vastrange of products; tiles, tableware, sanitary ware, refractory and insulators which are a source ofimmense amount of revenue. The domestic demandfor tile, sanitary ware and table ware is rising becauseof the rapid urbanization and construction of houses.Large export potential in sanitary ware in Middle East,Africa and Central Asia exists which can be exploitedby using local expertise for manufacturing ofmachinery. Facilitation of supply chain collaborationis needed by the sector which will eventually help inmeeting the demand of the product.

SPICES (100% EOU)Spices which are basically plant products, have

a definite role to play in enhancing the tasteflavour, relish or piquancy of any food; most ofthe spices are fragrant, aromatic & pungent. Theycomprise seeds, bartes, rhizamer, leaves fruitsand other parts of plants, which belong tovarigated species and genera since timeimmemorial, India in renamed to be the have ofspices. Most important spices like black pepper(king of spices) cardamom (queen of spices), ginger, chillis and turmeric, which are produced in India

Glass faces tough competition in this sector though, from plastics, paper products and metals. It’s a verycompetitive market place. Plastics have made bigheadway into some of glass’s traditional markets, particularly in the food sector, but glass containerproduction is still rising. He explained that glass oftenwins out as it is perceived to be a superior material. This is borne out by the results of surveys conductedon behalf of the Glass Packaging Institute (GPI): 96%of wine and beer drinkers in the US and Europe saidthey preferred their drink to be packaged in glassbottles. Consumers believe that glass provides a truertaste, by protecting the purity and quality of the drinkbetter. The GPI says that, “Glass provides a barrier tooxygen and moisture, protecting it longer and betterthan any other packaging material... it communicatesa premium image, taste and quality.” Soda-lime glass, while the most abundantly manufactured form ofglass, has experienced testing times during the pastfew years as the global economic crisis significantlyslowed the amount of new building as well as theamount of manufacturing worldwide. Glass was hithard by a crash in the global housing market duringthe period 2008-2012. This collapse, in turn, causedthe prices for some minerals used to produce glass -such as soda ash - to dip to the point where prices forthe mineral were as low as they can feasibly go. Otherglass-using industries, such as automobilemanufacturing, also took a knock, which again filtereddown to the raw materials demand level. While someglass markets dipped in 2012, this year has alreadybegun to show some promise. In the housing sector, for example, 23 markets have demonstrated betteryear-on-year statistics in Q3 2012 compared with Q32011, according to a report by Global Property Guide.Recovery of the US housing market has beenparticularly evident, with growth in Q3 2012 beingthe highest since Q2 2006, according to the FederalHousing Finance Agency (FHFA), the Guide reported.Despite these encouraging results, the impact of theglobal economic crisis is still evident across the glassindustry. Increased production costs, unilateralCO2 costs, fluctuating and unfavourable exchangerates, and high labour costs hamper the costcompetitiveness at global level of the container glasssector.OPPORTUNITIES

import it great reputation, and these constitute. In the list of spices, clove, nutmeg, cinnamonand cassia are known as tree spices, however, spices like fennel, fenugreek, garlic, onion, coriander, cumin, vanilla, saffron; etc. There area number of spices used along with food namely;Common Salt ,Coriander ,Chilli ,Turmeric, Ajwain& Methi ,Onion and Garlic .Now a day’s use ofspice as ground form is changed towards in theliquid form. It is actually use of spice oil. Spicy oildrops are so much more active rather than groundpowder. Ground powder is much more used incompare to oil drops. Oil drops are basicallyessential aromatic oils, which has very goodspecific spicy flavour. For Export Oriented Unit, should be quality conscious. Laboratory shouldbe cleaned. There is no adulteration in theproduct; product should be totally microbial free.Quality of the products and factory premisesshould satisfy I.S.O standard. These spices arenot used at a time. For preparation of any dishmay be Indian or European, vegetarian or non-vegetarian we use more than one spice. Thecombination of all the spices but together for theuse of one particular dish as known as ‘masala’the bulk of the dry matter consists ofcarbohydrates, proteins, tannius, resins, volatileoil, fixed oil, for pigments, mineral, elements, etc. These constituents differ greatly in theircomposition and content in different spices.Harvesting of each spice is done at a particularstorage of maturity in a particular manner suitablefor it avoiding any sort of damages beforeprocessing. It is transported to the processingcentre as early as possible and stored properlybefore it is taken to up for processing. The basicprerequisite of the export-oriented spices is thatalmost all of them are exported to other countriesand not sold in the indigenous market. Only theproduct that does not conform to the standardstipulated for the export-oriented product, and

is recorded in the form of rejects. This should notexceed more than 25% and may be sold in theindigenous market.

USES & APPLICATIONSThere are a large number of dishes used

commonly and on special occasions; correspondingly, there may be large variety of masalas (spices) also. However, the purpose or use of spices (a masalas) indishes is two folds - and being the appetizer and theother being taste and appearance. Spices have adefinite roll to play in enhancing the taste and flavorof any forces. A dish of spices adds individuality tostandardised foods, traditional or modern. In theindigenous system of medicine in India, spices areused widely. But, till recently, there was a prejudicein many foreign countries that spices are injurious tohealth. Fortunately, this view has been contradictedrecently by research workers in India and abroad. Most of the spices are carminative, digestive, stimulant, stanachic, resolvent, antiseptic, etc. Spicesare now considered as the natural and necessarycomponent of daily nutrition.MARKET SURVEY

known as ‘the home of spices’. No India meal isconsidered complete without the tangy and delectableflavour of Indian spices, locally known as ‘masala’.Indian spices are famous the world over for their highmedicinal values. There is no other country in theworld that produces as many kinds of spices as India.India grows over 50 different varieties of spices. Thetotal production is around 2.7 million tonnes. Of this, about 0.25 million tonne (8-10 per cent) is exportedto more than 150 countries. Some of the most widelyconsumed spices in India inter alia include chilli (lalmirach), cinnamon, cumin (jeera), curry leaf (currypatta), fennel (saunf), asafetida (hing/heeng), basil(pudina), bay leaves (tejpatta), small cardamom (chottielaichi), large cardamom (badi elaichi), ginger (adrak),mustard, sishops weed (ajwain), cassia (dal chini),celery (kala jeera), clove, coriander (dhania), fenugreek(methi), garlic (lahson), kokam, mint, onion, parsley, pomegranate, turmeric (haldi), tamrind (imli), pepper(kali mirach), poppy (post dana/khaskhas), rosemaryand vanilla. The climate of the country is suitable forgrowing almost all kinds of spices. India can now claimto be the monopoly supplier of spice oils andoleoresins the world over. The consistent effort duringthe last one decade has improved the share of value-added products in the exports basket to 60 per cent.Because of the varying climate-from tropical to sub-tropical temperate-almost all spices are grownsplendidly in India. In fact, almost all the states andunion territories of India grow one or the other spices.

RICE BRAN OIL (SOLVENTEXTRACTION)Rice is an important food crop. It is consumed by

more than half of the world’s population living in thedeveloping countries. The demand of rice is increasingevery day with the rise in population. It is thereforeimperative to have continuous and concerted effortsto increase rice production to keep pace with thedemand. Among the several approaches, varietalimprovement through development of varieties withinherent high yielding potential, resistance to majorbiotic and abiotic stresses and adaptable to variousrice growing environment is of paramount importance.Rice bran is a by- product resulting from the processingof rice. Even though the process, which consists inremoving certain outer layers of the caryopsis, isbasically the same in all cases, it can be carried out ina number of ways, some of which have a vital bearingon the characteristics of the end product. The branthus produced may have quite different properties;therefore their particular identity should bedifferentiated and maintained. Rice bran is the mainsource of rice oil. The majority of available brancontinues to be used for animal feeds without beingextracted for the oil. Rice oil, also called rice bran oil,has been used extensively in Asian countries. Riceoil is a minor constituent of rough rice when comparedwith the carbohydrate and protein content. Two majorclasses of lipids are present: those internal withinthe endosperm and those associated with the bran. The internal lipids contribute to the nutritional, functional, and sensory qualities of rice. Rice bran oil

is truly “The World’s Healthiest” edible oil, containingvitamins, antioxidants, nutrients and Trans fat free.It is not just delicate and flavorful; it can help lowercholesterol, fight diseases, enhance the immunesystem, and fight free radicals and more. Rice bran oilis extremely light, versatile and delicious. Used to fry, sauté, salad dressings, baking, dipping oils and whereever you use cooking oil. It is amazing cooking oil-light, healthy and also best in taste. Rice bran oil isvastly superior to traditional cooking oils and can beconsidered nutraceutical (food as medicine) oil thatis perfect for all your healthy cooking needs. Ricebran oil is quickly becoming a favorite in commercialfrying to replace hydrogenated oils that contain transfat. This is due to rice bran oils health, flavor andperformance benefits. Rice bran is a by-product ofthe rice milling process. Rice bran is the mostimportant source of edible oil among theunconventional sources. Rice bran is the browncoating around the white starchy rice kernel, whichis obtained by de-husking paddy and polishing therice. While white rice holds little nutritional value, the bran that is removed contains 65 percent of therice kernel’s nutrients and boasts a bounty ofhealthful benefits. The thin brown layer that is milledoff in the processing of white rice, rice bran is just aseffective as the other bran in fighting high cholesteroland providing high-grade fiber.USES & APPLICATION

The crude bran oil thus obtained can be used formanufacture of soap, emulsifiers, fatty acid, plasticisers, cosmetics and tocoferol (vitamin E) etc.Crude rice bran oil is an edible grade vegetable oilintended for additional processing before humanconsumption. Crude rice bran oil is also source ofhigh value added by-products. Thus, if the by-productsare derived from the crude rice bran oil and theresultant oil is used as a feedstock for biodiesel, theresulting biodiesel could be quite economical andaffordable. Crude rice bran oil is a rich source of highvalue-added byproduct. Therefore, use of rice branoil as raw material for the production of biodiesel notonly makes the process economical but also generatesvalue added bio-active compounds. Crude rice branoil helps reduce dust in feed, making it more palatableto animals. Moreover it acts as a lubricant in animalfeed pelletization stage. Crude Rice bran oil is usedas a raw material in manufacturing refined Rice branoil. Rice bran with low levels of available carbohydrate(25 per cent) and high level of fat (20 per cent) can beconsidered as a good source of energy when used asa supplementary food for diabetics. Rice bran with 15to 20 per cent oil can serve as a good source of energyand Essential Fatty Acids (EFA). It is also a commercialsource of edible oil. Rice bran wax can be used in thepreparation of candles, polishes, cosmetics, emulsifiers and other industrial preparations. It isthe cuticle existing between the rice and the husk ofthe paddy, which comprises the germ the perricorp, and aleuronic layer. The bran is obtained as a by-product in rice milling during polishing of rice obtainedafter dehusking of paddy etc.MARKET SURVEY

India produces about 80 million tonnes of paddyannually. This can yield about 5 million tonnes ofrice bran and to the extent of 8 lakhs tonnes of ricebran oil. During 1983 - 84, the country processedonly 13 lakhs tonnes of rice bran, though the installedprocessing capacity is around 32 lakhs tonnes.Production of rice bran oil is currently estimated atabout 2 lakhs tonnes and hardly 10-15 per cent of it

is of edible grade, although the potential availabilityis reckoned at about 8 lakhs tonnes. The wide gapbetween the actual production and the potentialavailability of rice bran oil is primarily due to the factthat at present around 70 per cent of the paddyproduced in the country is processed through hullermills while only 30 percent is processed by modernSheller mills. It has been estimated that huller millsnumber about 80,000 while there are only 28,000modern Sheller mills.

Indians. Papad is a common Indian foodnormally taken with meals. Some people take italong with tea also. It is a food which is liked bypeople of all states, people doing all type ofoccupations. It is well within the reach of commonpeople. Papad can be exported to other countriesand can earn valuable foreign exchange as peoplein other countries have also taken interest inthis food item. Some time before papads weremade at home by the ladies and most of themknow the process of making them. At presentalso some of the housewives are making these, but their number has decreased considerably. However, they used to make them for their captiveuses only.Whereas modern ladies don’t want to take trouble

of making them at homes because of a number ofreasons as follows: They are not free as ladies havealso started working in offices like men, they don’thave ample space in their houses for making them, fresh papads are available in the market (all types),they have become sophisticated and don’t want tomake them in their homes. Papad’s are of differenttypes i.e. made from urad dal, potatoes, rice etc. However, process of making all of them is very simpleand absolutely identifical except the formulationswhich may change according to one’s taste. Papad’smay be made by using red or black pappers and theirquantities may also be altered to make the product

strong or light in chilly. Normally papads are maderound in shape and are thin like paper. All sizes andtypes of papads are available in the market and canbe manufactured also under one shed with almostthe same plant and machineries. Papads are largelyconsumed by Marwadi’s. There are people who likethem so much that they don’t enjoy the meal unlessand until papad is also served along with it. However, mostly it is eaten by frying in ghee or oil. Raw papadis quit flexible and don’t crack when twisted andturned many times. After roasting and drying rawpapad, becomes crisp and produces sound wheneaten. it is also very tasty.USES & APPLICATION

They are available in both red and black papadand with different formulations, thus cater to thetaste of various people. network so they do not directly connect tothe consumers. These are not loaded fully at alltime so iron losses takes place 24hr a day and culosses takes place based on load cycle. Averageloads are about only 75% of full load and theseare designed in such a way that max efficiencyoccurs at 75% of full load. These are independentof time so in calculating the efficiency only powerbasis is enough.Power transformers are used for transmission as

a step up devices so that the I to R loss can beminimized for a given power flow. These transformersare designed to utilize the core to maximum and willoperate very much near to the knee point of B-H

curve (slightly above the knee point value). This bringsdown the mass of the core enormously. Naturallythese transformers have the matched iron losses andcopper losses at peak load (i.e. the maximumefficiency point where both the losses match).

Bulk AC power transmission necessitates the useof high voltages. Progressively, the transmissionvoltages have risen to 400 kV AC in India. In India, system voltages up to 400 kV are well establishedand 800 kV AC transmission systems are beingplanned. This will require manufacturing of 800 kVtransformers.

Most of the major transformer manufacturers inIndia had collaborations with reputed internationalcompanies, such as Associated Electrical Industries(AEI,) U.K.; Alsthom, France; Hawker Siddely, U.K.;Hitachi, Japan and Siemens, Germany.MARKET SURVEY

Electric equipment industry contributes over 2%of GDP which is projected to increase to about 12%in 2015 according to a study by Frost & Sullivan.During the period, consumption of electricalequipment is estimated to increase from over USD 28bn now to USD 363 bn, growing at a CAGR of about30%. It is also expected that during 2010-2015, theIndian equipment manufacturing will grow at 5.5times the growth rate of global electronic equipmentproduction. The electrical industry has been showingsigns of recovery after poor performance in the recentyears. The domestic electrical industry, which includesequipment for generation, transmission, distributionand use of power in industrial units, constitutes amajor part of the electrical products.

India’s capacity to manufacture power equipmentis set to increase four-fold to around 43,000 MW overthe next 5 years, through investments of over Rs 300bn. The additional capacity of 33,000 MW is expectedto be added by 2015.

With some fast moves at launching fast trackprojects to augment supplies, the Indian industryneeds to improve its competitiveness. The Indianmarket is growing and multinationals with newertechnologies are now more active. The industry, as aconsequence, needs strategic alliances and tie-upswith technology suppliers to upgrade their supplies. The technology for the manufacture of transformers, for instance, is largely European. As a result, mostplayers have the same level of technology. Even pricesdo not differ substantially. Lately, encouraging signare emerging.

The entry of private sector in the power area andthe emergence of captive power plants have changedthe scenario for the transformer segment. Earlier, the business revolved around power utilities such asthe State Electricity Boards. As against this, thecustomers in the private sector prefer contractingout the entire substation to a single vendor, in theprocess thus reducing costs as well as avoidingproblems of logistics.

As more and more MNCs and specializedindustries make India their business destination, special economic zones have been allocated andfeeding mega projects of robust and efficienttransformers, ensuring the optional generation ofpower. Transformers & Rectifiers India Ltd (TRIL) is aleading player in this industry. Recently TRIL signeda billion rupee MoU with the Government of Gujaratto set up a new plant at Moraiya with an installedcapacity of 16,000 MVA. It will make TRIL the thirdlargest transformer manufacturing company of India.
