• Karaoke is the singing of the lyrics of a song to its instrumental version.

• The lyrics are displayed on a screen.

• Karaoke has its origin in Japan but is now popular around the world.

• Modern karaoke shops consist of several private rooms (karaoke boxes) that are each equipped with a karaoke player, screens, and microphones.

• Nowadays private home karaoke players are also popular.

• Japanese pop music sounds similar to Western pop music.

• The lyrics are mostly in Japanese.

• Many songs contain some English expressions or have an English title.

• The celebrities of the J-Pop scene are very popular and appear frequently in various television programs.

• J-Pop and its celebrities enjoy also a certain popularity in other Asian countries.

• Amusement parks are very popular and numerous in Japan.

• The most popular one is Tokyo Disney Resort.

• Tokyo Disney Resort is especially popular among young women and couples.

• Besides Tokyo Disney Resort, there are countless other amusement parks of all kinds.

• It is located only about 15 minutes by train from Tokyo station.

• Department stores typically feature women's clothing on many of their floors.

• Additional floors have men's and children's clothes, and home furnishings.

• Basement floors usually house a food department.

• The top floors are restaurant floors featuring various types of restaurants like Japanese, Chinese, Western, etc.

• The largest shopping zones in Tokyo are Shinjuku, Ginza and Shibuya, where several department stores can be found side by side.

• Natural hot springs (onsen) are numerous and highly popular across Japan.

• Every region of the country has its share of hot springs and resort towns, which come with them.

• There are many types of hot springs, distinguished by the minerals dissolved in the water.

•Different minerals provide different health benefits.

• All hot springs are supposed to have a relaxing effect on your body and mind.

• Manga has been developed from a unique mixture of ukiyo-e and foreign drawing styles.

• Literally, the word `manga' means random pictures.

• Manga depicted satirical and humorous cartoons in the `one picture' or `four picture' format.

• Once a Manga cartoon gains enough popularity, the producers look to convert it into an Anime.

• Based on the target audience of men, women, children and teenagers, manga and anime encompass a variety of subjects, including action, sci-fi, fantasy and comedy.

• Famous Japanese manga and anime artist, Dr. Osamu Tezuka, is widely known as the father of story-based Japanese manga cartoons.

• His popular creations include Phoneix, Kimba the White Lion, Astro Boy, Princess Knight, Black Jack and Adolf.

• Enka was Japanese popular music before and following WW2.

• Nowadays, enka music is most popular among the older generations.

• Many enka songs deal with topics such as unlucky love and nostalgia.

• Enka singers, especially women, usually perform wearing a kimono.

• A kimono is a loose robe.
