Master’s Thesis

• All Double Degree Incoming students will have to write a master’s thesis worth 18 ECTS credits

• You can write a master’s thesis at any time upon individual agreement with a professor or within a

seminar

• In each case, the «Master’s Thesis Agreement» must be filled out with your supervisor

• Recommendation: write your master’s thesis in spring semester, start preparations in

November/December at the latest

• If you want to visit a seminar, please note that you must register in the previous semester.

• Module booking = examination registration

• You have to book a module in the same semester in which you want to take the examination

• The candidate of an oral exam must also inform the respective chair of his/her withdrawel

Failed Attempts

• For each unsuccessful examination you receive a failed grade (or a fail in Intro to Swiss Law)

• Up to 24 ECTS credits of failed attempts are permitted

• Master’s theses or modules from the Faculty of Economics do not count

6. Matriculation and Graduation

Enrollment

• Enrollment happens automatically each semester.

• You will receive a reminder email with the semester enrollment dates from the University of Zurich. Please be

sure to check your enrollment within the deadline.

• Changes to the enrollment are possible online via the student portal of the UZH from November 15-30:

• Please remember to de-register for the semester following your graduation (e.g. if you graduate at the end of

spring semester 2020, you have to de-register for fall semester 2020). You can do this during the regular

enrollment deadlines or request deregistration until mid October.

Applying for Graduation and Graduation

• Graduation will be possible in the semester in which you have completed the whole double degree

program (at UZH and your home university)

• If your first year of study is at the UZH, please do not de-register at the UZH but enroll for the next two

semesters as well. You will not have to pay tuition fees while not studying at the UZH.

• In the last semester of your studies, you will need to be enrolled at the UZH. You can only graduate if you

are enrolled.

• The application for the graduation will be available online on the module booking tool in May. You can

click on this link just once. After completing the application you will receive an automatically generated

email confirming that the form has been transmitted.

• The graduation takes place in the beginning of October. If you cannot participate you have to deregister.

In addition you have to inform the Coordination Office Double Degree. We will send the diploma by post,

if students are no longer in Switzerland. For all students still living in Switzerland, the diploma has to be

picked up in person.
