Registration for the winter semester 2019/20 (August 15 – October 15, 2019)

Welcome to the Online Enrollment Portal at the University of Potsdam for master’s degree programs not related to teacher certification. Before you begin your online enrollment, please note the following:

If you are currently studying at the University of Potsdam, you are not required to enroll via the Online Portal. Please inform yourself here about your transfer to a master’s degree program https://www.uni‐potsdam.de/de/studium/konkret/studienorganisation/uebergang‐bachelor‐master.html

For students who are new to the University of Potsdam: Please note that you can only complete your enrollment if we have received your notice of admission (Zulassungsbescheid) from the Examining Board (all degree programs) and confirmation of punctual acceptance of admission (only for restricted‐admission degree programs).

Important note: Before sending in your documents, please review carefully whether all of the documents required for enrollment have been included with the application for enrollment. The University of Potsdam bears no obligation to inform you about missing documents. Submit your enrollment documents on time, since only when we receive your documents by post by October 1, 2019, can we guarantee that you will be notified by email about missing documents. The enrollment deadline for the winter semester is October 15, 2019. You can only submit documents in support of your application until October 31, 2019 (exclusion period).

5.1 Subject – Error Messages

What does form of university studies mean?Students who have passed a final examination at a German university, or an international academic institution that has been recognizedin Germany, are in continuing university studies that ends with a second final exam, for example, with a master‘s degree. Distinctions are drawn between several types of study:

Second Undergraduate degreeUniversity studies after a previously successfully completed university degree program in another discipline, for which the first degree is not an admission qualification. Example: A graduate with an economics degree then pursues a bachelor‘s degree in Biology.

Postgraduate StudiesUniversity studies after a previously attained university degree that is typically a prerequisite for admission. Postgraduate studies should deepen and expand skills and content knowledge from a first degree.

Complementary StudiesAcademic program components (degree programs, study units, courses) for graduates of a degree program with a degree that qualifies one to practice a profession in a subject other than the one previously studied, with which a complementary, primarily profession‐related (partial) qualification is meant to be imparted.

Postgraduate Refresher CourseUniversity offerings to refresh an earlier university education and to integrate experience form professional practice in order to take into consideration changes in scientific developments and in the professional world. This kind of study is open to university graduates with professional experience and those applicants who have acquired the necessary experience in a profession or in another way.

Consecutive Master‘s DegreeConsecutive master‘s degree programs require a bachelor‘s degree in accordance with the study and examination regulations.The master‘s degree program can continue and deepen the bachelor‘s degree, or expand upon it in a cross‐disciplinary way.

You will receive an electronic confirmation of receipt as soon as your documents arrive via the postal service. After reviewing your enrollment documents, your will receive, if the application is complete, information about the payment of the semester fee at the email address you have provided. If your enrollment documents are incomplete, you will receive via email information about which documents can be submitted up to the enrollment deadline. University Entrance Qualification ‐ HZB

Your university entrance qualification (HZB) is the school certificate with which you first applied for university studies at a German or international university (e.g., the Abitur at a Gymnasium; or, outside of Germany, the school certificate that qualifies you for university studies, such as a Higher Secondary Certificate, Baccalauréat or Titulo de Bachiller). Your university entrance qualification is only required for statistical purposes when enrolling in a master’s degree program. Do not enter a bachelor’s degree here that you earned at a university in Germany or elsewhere.
