1.0 GENERAL 1.1 This standard shall be followed in establishing the minimum engineering

requirements for centrifugal pumps and hydraulic recovery power turbines for service within the limits of process plants and pipeline applications.

1.2 All the centrifugal pumps supply by vendor shall conform to API Standard 610,

Tenth Edition October 2004 “Centrifugal Pumps for Petroleum, Petrochemical and Natural Gas Industries” and the requirements specified herein which are additional / modification / alternative to API-610 (2004). Number in parenthesis at the beginning of a clause wherever given indicates relevant clause of API-610 (2004).

1.3 Deviations and / or exceptions to the enquiry specification sheet, enclosures,

applicable standards, etc., must be listed for each document, clause wise with proper reason in a separate annexure in the bid. Otherwise it shall be assumed that all the requirements of the enquiry are acceptable without any reservation and shall be binding to the bidder.

1.4 (4.3.1) Pumps shall have SI dimensions and comply with applicable ISO

standards, except for piping connections which shall be as per ANSI / ASME standards.

1.5 Accessories required / recommended by pump vendor other than those

specified in the pump specification sheet for safe and efficient operation of the pump unit, shall be included in the pump vendor’s scope of supply and the same shall be identified in the bid separately with adequate justification.

1.6 Rated speed of pump, in case of electric motor drive, shall be the full load speed

of motor. In case the driver is not in the pump vendor’s scope, full load speed of the driver shall be furnished to the pump vendor along with other details, after order. The pump characteristics shall be guaranteed / tested with reference to the full load speed of motor.

2.0 BASIC DESIGN

2.1 (5.1.6) Addition: Pumps shall not be offered or supplied with minimum impeller diameter. Selected impeller diameter shall be with a margin of at least 5% from minimum impeller diameter.

2.2 (5.1.10) Addition: Margin between the NPSHA and NPSHR shall be minimum 0.5

m at rated capacity. NPSHR value is to be demonstrated by the pump vendor during shop testing in case of difference between NPSHA and NPSHR is less than or equal to 1 meter. For pump liquids with possible dissolved gases such as K2CO3 solution (semi-lean and lean solution), MEA, DEA and boiler feedwater etc. the NPSHA shall be 1.5 times NPSHR with minimum margin of 5 meters.

2.3 (5.1.11) Addition: Suction specific speed shall be limited to 220 rpm (m3/s) ½/m3/4.

2.4 (5.1.13) Addition: For pumps not in parallel operation, the shut off head shall preferably be minimum 105% of head at rated capacity. Pumps for parallel operation shall have identical characteristic curves.

2.5 (New) When Flow rate exceeds 1000 m3/hr, preferably Between Bearing type

centrifugal pumps shall be supplied.

2.6 (New) Single stage overhung pumps with 18” (457 mm) and larger impellers at speeds over 1800 rpm shall not be furnished unless approved by purchaser.

2.7 For vertical pumps the specified head shall be measured at the discharge flange,

at pump mounting level. Pumps shall be suitable to develop specified discharge head in addition to the column losses and vertical distance, between minimum level in the sump tank and centre line of discharge flange. Pump vendor shall indicate total head to be developed by the pump in the offer.

2.8 (5.1.16) Addition: Sound pressure level of the complete pump train shall not

exceed 85 dB (A) at 1 meter distance.

2.12 (5.3.6) Addition: In case of vertical double casing pumps for ammonia & similar services, the suction casing shall be suitable for the maximum pressure applicable during operation or idle conditions.

2.13 In case of steam jacketed pumps, the steam jacket shall be welded to the pump casing and shall cover the complete stuffing box area also. Design pressure for steam jackets shall be 6.0 kg/cm2g and hydrotest pressure shall be 9.0 kg/cm2g.

2.14 (5.4.1) Addition: For nozzle size 1½“ and below, weldneck raised face companion

flanges with nuts, bolts and gaskets shall be supplied by vendor in case the pump nozzle rating is less than ANSI 600 class.

2.15 (5.4.1.1) Addition: For pump nozzle size NPS 1¼, 2½, 3½, 5, 7 and 9, weld neck

type companion flange along with studs, nuts and gaskets shall be supplied by vendor.

2.16 (5.4.3.1) Addition: Preferably PTFE tape shall not be used on any threaded

connection.

2.17 (5.4.3.3) Modification: Cylindrical threads shall not be used.

2.18 (5.4.3.8) Addition: Facing and drilling shall be as per ANSI / ASME B 16.1 or ANSI / ASME B 16.5.

2.19 Pressure gauge connections shall be provided.

2.20 Shafts for horizontal pumps shall be fitted with deflectors. Deflectors shall be

made of non-sparking material (corrosion resistant material for corrosive service).

2.21 In case of vertical pumps, column and bowl assembly joints shall be flanged.

2.22 (5.7.3) Modification: Renewable wear rings shall be provided. Preferably Tack welding of wear rings shall be avoided.

2.23 (5.8) Addition: Any change in the seal code, specified in specification sheet shall

be indicated in the offer, along with the recommendations of seal manufacturer for similar duty conditions.

2.24 When specified in the pump specification sheet, vendor shall provide packing in

place of mechanical seal for use up to pre-commissioning stage at site and subsequently to be replaced by mechanical seal before normal operation of the pumps. The vendor shall quote for packing and mechanical seal separately. Pump shall be tested in shop with mechanical seal fitted. Pump shall be dispatched fitted with packing & mechanical seal shall be supplied loose to be used after pre-commissioning.

2.25 Mechanical seals shall be of Flowserve / Eagle Seals and systems India ltd. /

Burgmann / John Crane make. In case pump vendor selects mechanical seals of any other make, due to technical reasons, same shall be explained in the offer along with the reference list.

2.26 Mechanical seal sleeves shall be hard chrome oxide coated under flexible member of the mechanical seal.

2.27 Unless otherwise specified, the mechanical seal flushing fluid heat exchangers

material of construction shall be as follows: SHELL : Carbon steel TUBES : AISI – 304

2.28 Vendor shall supply complete piping along with all the accessories as per the

specified API plan including the optional items.

2.29 Hydraulic sealing with packing of proven design for shaft sealing may be quoted. Necessary orifice and regulating valve shall be included in supply.

2.30 (5.9.2.6): Torsional analysis report shall be submitted.

2.41 (5.12.1.12) Addition: Where even trace quantities of wet H2S are indicated to be

present, reduced hardness materials in accordance with NACE MR0175 shall be provided by Vendor.

2.42 (5.12.2.5) Addition: Casting repair procedures shall be submitted for approval to

the inspector identified in the order, otherwise it shall be submitted to the purchaser for approval. Repair procedure shall be forwarded to purchaser for information also. The criteria for defining a "major" repair shall be as specified in ASTM A-744 paragraph 9 regardless of the metallurgy or manufacturing method of the part.

2.43 (5.12.3.4(d)) Purchaser’s approval for connection designs is not required.

2.44 (5.12.3.4(e)) Addition: Refer Inspection & Testing.

3.0 ACCESSORIES

3.1 (6.1.1, 6.1.2(a), (b), (e)): See pump specification sheet. When driver is included in vendor’s scope of supply, the following shall be the responsibility of pump vendor:

– Direction of rotation of the driver matches with the direction of rotation of the driven pump.

– Driver dimension matches with the base plate in all respect as per pump general arrangement drawing.

– The subvendor’s drawings compliance with purchase order requirements. The subvendor’s drawing shall be duly stamped and signed by engineer of the pump vendor.

3.2 (6.1.2(c),(d)) Addition: For additional information, refer pump specification sheet.

3.3 (6.1.4): See pump specification sheet / Electric Motor data sheet.

3.4 (6.1.5) Addition: Refer to the driver motor specification sheet and applicable Engineering Standard.

3.5 Vertical pumps taking suction from sump / vessel shall be furnished with corrosion resistant suction strainer. Perforation / mesh size shall be suitable for proper operation of pump. Free flow area of the strainer shall be minimum 2.5 times the area of equivalent suction nozzle area.

3.6 (6.2.2(e)) Addition: Requirement of API-671 may be applied for pumps operating at less than 3800 rpm where absorbed power is high / and is in use in critical service of process plant - refer pump specification sheet.

3.7 (6.2.3) Addition: Coupling shall be balanced to ISO 1940-1 Grade G6.3. When specified, Couplings for speeds 3000 rpm or less shall be dynamically balanced in accordance with ISO 1940-1 balance grade G2.5. See pump specification sheet.

3.14 (6.3.3) Addition: Base plate shall be drilled and tapped by pump manufacturer for installing the driver even when the driver is arranged by the purchaser.

3.15 (6.3.6): See pump specification sheet.

3.16 (6.3.12): Base plate dimensions as per Annexure-D are not obligatory.

3.17 (6.3.13) Addition: Horizontal pumps installed on steel structures shall fulfill this requirement.

3.24 (6.5.1.6) Addition: All auxiliary piping shall terminate with flanged connection at the edge of base plate. For flange size 1½“ and below, weldneck raised face companion flanges with nuts, bolts and gaskets shall be supplied by vendor in case the flange rating is less than ANSI 600 class.

3.25 (6.5.1.7): See pump specification sheet.

3.26 (6.5.2.1) Addition: For pumps handling corrosive liquids provision shall be made to collect leakage across outer seal by providing suitable corrosion resistant drip tray, fitted in the bearing lantern under the stuffing box. Necessary piping to drain off the collected liquid in the drip tray up to edge of base plate terminating into flanged connection shall be provided by pump vendor.

3.27 (6.5.2.4): See pump specification sheet.

3.28 (6.5.2.8): Flanges in place of unions shall be provided for flammable or hazardous fluids.

4. 0 INSPECTION, TESTING AND PREPARATION FOR SHIPMENT

4. 1 (7.1) Addition: All pumps shall be subjected to stage inspection by PDIL inspector / inspector of purchaser or authorized inspecting agents as defined in the purchase order. Test and Inspection plan shall be submitted to the inspector for approval . The inspector shall indicate additional tests to be witnessed, over and above the ones specified in the pump specification sheet. Acceptance of shop test shall not relieve the vendor of his responsibility in any way.

4. 2 (7.1.4) Addition: Extent of tests to be witnessed shall be as specified in the pump specification sheet. Two weeks advance notification shall be provided to inspector for witnessed tests identified in the pump specification sheet.

4. 3 (7.1.6): Inspector’s check list (Annexure-E of 610, 10th edition) shall be submitted.

5.11 (8.3.1.1) Addition: For vertical sump pumps, vendor shall state the minimum submergence required and the minimum clearance from the sump bottom in his proposal.

GUIDE LINES TO MANUFACTURER / BIDDERS 1. The scope of supply comprises of but not limited to design, manufacture,

inspection, testing at works and supply of Increased Safety Induction Motors required for Process Cond. Transfer Pumps (MP-1324A/B, MP-2324A/B), GV Cond. Transfer Pumps (MP-1325A/B, MP-2325A/B), Cond. Pumps OH LP GV Stripper (MP-1352A/B, MP-2352A/B) and Aeration Injection Pumps (MP-1309A/B, MP-2309A/B) covered under the enquiry with accessories and spare parts as per Technical specification attached herewith

2. Any deviation from the Engineering Standard, Specification Sheet & Technical Specification attached, shall be clearly, spelt out clause wise, as per enclosed Form-I exception & deviation, falling which the offer may be rejected.

3. Manufacturer to furnish typical test certificate from accredited test house

verifying the suitability of Increased Safety motors for Hazardous area mentioned in the Specification Sheet. Further approval certificate from BIS / CCOE Nagpur for the Test Certificate issued by accredited test house shall also be submitted.

4. The manufacturer shall submit duly filled in, signed and stamped specification sheets, Technical Particulars, Exception & Deviation form and Annexure-A for items covered under this enquiry along with the offer

1.0 SCOPE

1.1 This standard covers the technical requirements of design, manufacture, testing at works and delivery in well-packed condition of Medium Voltage Induction Motors.

1.2 This standard shall be read in conjunction with relevant specification sheet and other relevant references as specified therein.

2.0 STANDARDS TO BE FOLLOWED

2.1 The design, manufacture and testing of the equipment covered by this standard shall comply with the latest issue of IS-325 and other relevant Indian Standards, unless otherwise specified. Equipment complying with equivalent IEC standards shall also be acceptable.

2.2 Flameproof, Increased Safety and Type “n” motors shall in addition, comply with the requirements laid down in IS-2148, IS-6381, IS-9628 respectively.

2.3 The design and operational features of the equipment offered shall also comply with the provisions of latest issue of the Indian Electricity Rules and other relevant Statutory Rules & Regulations. The supplier shall, whenever necessary, make suitable modification in the equipment to comply with the above mentioned rules.

2.4 Wherever any requirement, laid down in this standard, differs from that in Indian Standard Specifications, the requirement specified herein shall prevail.

3.0 SERVICE CONDITIONS

3.1 Ambient Conditions The Ambient Conditions shall be as indicated in Specification Sheet.

3.2 System Details

3.2.1 The details of power system to which the motors shall be connected shall be as indicated in the Specification Sheet.

3.2.2 The motors shall be suitable for connection to a power system where transient disturbances are very likely to occur. During the transient disturbances, voltage of the system may completely disappear and return in a short time with the motors still running and connected. Under this condition, the return of voltage may occur at such an instant that the induced e.m.f. in the motor is in phase with the applied voltage giving rise to current surges which may reach a value equal to 2 times the starting current and also cause transient torques of large magnitudes. The motors shall be suitable to withstand these conditions and have push-pull withstand capacity of not less than 150%.\

4.0 GENERAL DESIGN FEATURES

4.1 Enclosures

4.1.1 The enclosure of motors for indoor and outdoor services shall be IP-54 and IPW-55 respectively as per IS-4691, unless otherwise specified.

4.1.2 Vertical motors for outdoor installation shall be provided with a rain protective hood.

4.1.3 All external hardwares shall be zinc passivated or cadmium plated.

4.2 Cooling

4.2.1 All motors shall be totally enclosed fan cooled conforming to IC-0141 as per IS-6362.

4.2.2 The cooling fans shall be made of non-sparking materials such as cast aluminium (LM-6 alloy) / cast iron and shall be suitable for bidirectional rotation of motors. The cooling air shall be sucked from the non-driving end.

4.3 Direction of Rotation

Motors shall be suitable for both directions of rotation. A plate showing the direction of rotation corresponding to the phase terminal markings shall be fitted at the driving end shield of the motors.

4.4 Rotor

4.4.1 The rotor shall be of squirrel cage construction, unless otherwise specified.

4.4.2 The squirrel cage bars and end rings shall be of Aluminium pressure die-cast for smaller motors and copper or copper alloy for larger motors and designed for the required starting and duty cycles.

4.4.3 Wherever wound rotor is specified, the windings shall be as specified under clause 4.5. The rotor voltage shall not exceed stator voltage. Short circuiting and brush lifting devices are not required. The rheostat shall be rated for 10 minutes.

4.5 Windings and Insulation

4.5.1 The motor coils shall be made out of insulated electrolytic grade copper conductor. Successive coils shall be connected by accessible joints, well-brazed and finished smooth to prevent damage to insulation.

4.5.2 The motors shall be insulated assuming the power system neutral as isolated.

4.5.3 The insulation class shall be specified in Specification Sheet. Wherever Class “F” insulation is specified, the windings shall be easily replaceable type and the temperature rise shall not exceed that of Class “B” insulation. The insulation shall have tropical and fungicidal treatment.

4.5.4 The winding coils shall be dried, properly impregnated with suitable varnishes to withstand the site conditions and properly baked. At least two additional impregnations and baking shall be applied to the assembled stator coil making a total of three impregnations and baking. Finally the windings shall be painted with special anti-acid and anti-alkali paints to withstand the site conditions.

4.5.5 Lead-in wire between the windings and the outside terminals shall be of heat resistant insulated conductors.

4.5.6 The windings shall preferably be delta connected. However, for motors having frame size 112 and below, star connection may be accepted.

4.6 Slip rings and Brushes

4.6.1 Slip rings shall be located in the non-driving side. The material of construction shall be copper alloy. The slip rings and the brush gear shall be cooled by the motor cooling fan.

4.6.2 The starting rheostats shall be designed for intermittent duty and rated for 10 minutes. Where speed regulation is required, the rheostats and the controllers shall be suitable for such application and rated for continuous duty. Auxiliary contacts shall be provided on the controllers for connections to the motor supply controls to prevent wrong operations during starting.

4.7 Bearings

4.7.1 All motors shall be provided with grease lubricated bearings. The bearings must be guaranteed to ensure smooth operation and a life not shorter than 30,000 Hrs.

4.7.2 The bearing temperature shall not exceed 90OC.

4.7.3 All motors shall be provided with on-line grease lubrication arrangement for both DE and NDE side bearings, except for motors of frame size 112 and less and flange mounted motors. The arrangement shall be complete with grease nipple and drain plug located at convenient locations.

4.8 Terminal Box

4.8.1 All the terminal boxes shall have identical degree of protection as that of the motor and shall be provided with SRBF or epoxy moulding terminal board.

4.8.2 The terminal boxes shall be side mounted and so designed as to ensure top/ bottom/ side entry of cables as required at site. The terminal box shall have an inclination of 30O to the vertical for ease of cable connection.

4.8.3 All the six leads of the motor shall be taken out to a common terminal box and shorting links for delta connection shall be provided.

4.8.4 For increased safety and type “n” motors, the terminals shall be provided with positive locking device against loosening.

4.8.5 The terminal box shall have adequate clearances in between the terminals and also between the terminals and cable gland for proper termination of cables.

4.8.6 Separate terminal box shall be provided for space heater connection.

4.8.7 All terminal boxes shall be complete with heavy duty double compression type cable glands and tinned Copper crimping lugs to receive the external cables. The cable gland material shall be as specified in Specification Sheet.

4.9 Geared Motors

The gears shall be oil lubricated, heavy duty as per AGMA Class-III with silent and smooth operation. They shall be capable of transmitting the rated motor power continuously, withstanding moderate shock loads having a service factor of 2 and the starting duties. Inspection glass shall be provided to indicate the oil level in the gear box.

5.0 PERFORMANCE

5.1 Starting

5.1.1 The motors shall be capable of being started direct-on-line, unless otherwise specified.

5.1.2 The starting torque of each motor shall be higher than the resisting torque of the driven load throughout the starting period, even at the minimum starting voltage specified.

5.1.3 The starting current shall not be greater than 6 times the rated current, while starting at full voltage, unless otherwise specified in Specification Sheet.

5.1.4 The motors shall be suitable for 3 consecutive starts from ambient temperature and 2 consecutive starts from steady state load temperature.

5.1.5 The locked rotor withstand time (tE) under hot condition at 110% of rated voltage shall be more than the starting time of the motors coupled to the load even at the lowest stipulated starting voltage by 2 secs. for motors, having starting time upto 10 secs. and by 5 secs. for motors, having starting time more than 10 secs.

5.1.6 For increased safety motors, tE under hot condition shall not be less than 10 secs. The value of tE shall be determined in the presence of Purchaser’s representative unless test certificate from an independent testing authority is submitted for similar motors. The time tE and the locked rotor current shall be stamped on the name plate as well as indicated in the test certificates.

5.2 Running All motors shall be continuous maximum rated (S1 duty as per IS-325), unless otherwise specified.

5.3 Temperature Rise

5.3.1 The total temperature of the stator winding under full load running condition shall not exceed the values permissible for the specified insulation class. For increased safety motors, the temperature shall be 10OC less than for normal motors.

5.3.2 For increased safety and flameproof motors the maximum surface temperature shall not exceed the values applicable for temperature class of the hazardous gases / vapours present in the installation area. However, for Type ‘n’ motors, the maximum allowable temperature shall not exceed 200OC.

5.3.3 For staring and locked rotor conditions stipulated under Clause 5.1.4, 5.1.5 and 5.1.6 the maximum temperature in the rotor shall not exceed 300OC or as permissible for the temperature class of hazardous gases/ vapours present in the area whichever is lower.

5.4 Vibrations

The motor vibrations measured at the bearings must not exceed the limits specified in IS-12075.

5.5 Noise Level

The motor noise level shall not exceed 85 dB measured at a distance of 1 metre from the motor.

6.0 COUPLING DETAILS

6.1 All motors shall be suitable for being coupled to the driven equipment through flexible coupling, unless otherwise specified.

6.2 Wherever rigid coupling is specified, the motor shaft shall have the desired class of accuracy.

6.3 For all vertical flange mounted motors, the limitations on shaft extension, run out, perpendicularity and eccentricity, as required by the driven machine supplier shall be complied with by the motor supplier.

6.4 If the motor is to be coupled to reciprocating pump or compressor requiring fluctuating torque, the motor supplier shall ensure that the inertia of the driving and driven machine assembly shall be such that the variation in the armature current shall not exceed + 66% of the rated current while delivering full load.

6.5 Wherever belt drive is specified the motor supplier shall ensure the shaft extension and the bearings are suitable for the duty specified and supply the slide rails unless otherwise specified.

7.0 ACCESSORIES

7.1 The motors shall be complete with the accessories as specified in Specification Sheet.

7.2 Space Heaters Space heaters rated for 240 V A.C. shall be provided to keep the winding dry in idle condition for all motors rated 30 KW and above and located in an easily accessible position.

7.3 Name Plates

7.3.1 The name plate shall be of stainless steel with letters embossed on them.

7.3.2 The name plate shall contain all the required details as per relevant IS and in addition shall indicate the following: i) The description and Code No. of motor.

ii) Degree of protection of enclosure.

iii) Temperature rise of winding under running condition.

iv) Designation of bearings.

v) Recommended type of lubricant and interval of lubrication.

7.3.3 Flameproof/Increased Safety / Type ‘n’ motors shall have additional name plate containing relevant particulars as per IS-2148 / IS-6381 / IS-9628 respectively.

8.0 PAINTING

8.1 Enclosure of the motors and its accessories shall be painted with two coats of anti-rust paint and two coats of anticorrosive paint after suitable pretreatment.

8.2 Epoxy paint, wherever specified shall be provided.

8.3 Unless otherwise specified, the finishing shade shall be light grey having Shade No.631 as per IS-5.

9.0 TESTS AND INSPECTION

9.1 All motors shall be routine tested as per relevant standards.

9.2 Additional tests, wherever specified, shall be carried out on one motor of each rating.

9.3 All the above mentioned tests shall be carried out in the presence of Purchaser’s representative. In addition, the motor shall be subject to stage inspection at works and inspection at site for final acceptance.

9.4 These inspections shall, however, not absolve the vendor from their responsibility for making good any defects which may be noticed subsequently.

10.0 PACKING The motors shall be properly packed to safeguard against weather condition and handling during transit.

11.0 DRAWINGS AND DOCUMENTS

11.1 Drawings and documents as per Annexure-I shall be supplied, unless otherwise specified.

11.2 All drawings and documents shall have the following descriptions written boldly:

- Name of client

- Name of consultant

- Enquiry / order number with plant / project name

- Motor Code No. and Description

12.0 SPARES

12.1 Spares for operation and maintenance Item wise unit prices of spare parts with recommended quantity shall be quoted

along with the motors as listed in the specification sheet.

12.2 Commissioning Spares Commissioning spares, as required, shall be supplied with the main equipment.

Item wise list of recommended commissioning spares shall be furnished for approval.

12.3 Any other spare parts not specified, but required, shall also be quoted along with the offer.

12.4 All spare parts shall be identical to the parts used in the motors.

13.0 DEVIATIONS

13.1 Deviations, if any, from this standard shall be clearly indicated in the offer with reasoning.

13.2 Deviations, if any, from the data furnished in specification sheet shall be indicated therein beside the data by encircling it.
