1. WELCOME / WELKOM

Welcome to this issue. It is a copy of a SA Police Commemorative Journal published circa

1980. That was during circa 1980! What about the history from 1913 and the latest

developments post 1994? We need the bigger picture in order to understand our history.

This special issue is just to show that we need a journal depicting a hundred years of service

and development of our Police.

1.2 Voorblad / Front Page

A collage of South African badges used from 1913 – 2013; the two police flags and the

Colours of the old South African Police – all depicting a hundred years of Servamus et

Servimus.

1.4 Editorial / Redaksioneel

It is now time, 2012, to compile a visual History of the Police in South Africa depicting a

century of service to the people of South Africa – for this, we need the help of all our

readers; please share with us your anecdotes, please send in your photos of our legends, of

your family in the police, of our heroes, of our transport over the years, of our graves and

our memorials. [Please remember to send the name of the photographer, the date and the

place where he photo was published.]

The history of South Africa is indeed the history of the South African Police and the South

African Police Service. We need to look at the various police agencies in South Africa e.g. the

KwaZulu Police Force, Transkei Police and the Ciskei Police.

5. CONCLUSION / SLOT

A symbol of Decency?

"The British police, efficient, polite, good-humoured to all who approach them, have

replaced the Royal Navy as the symbol of British decency in the eyes of a world which no

longer knows or tolerates imperialism. They are the strong dyke built against the waters of

crime which are ever ready to engulf and destroy society. Every nation owes more than it

can pay to that figure of the English scene-the bobby."
