ISO 50001 - Energy ManagementSystem (EnMS) offers a systematicapproach to improve energyperformance, including energy efficiency,energy use and energy consumption.This International standard specifiesrequirements for an organization toestablish, implement, maintain, andimprove their energy managementsystem. The standard is based on Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) cycle for continuosimprovement and incorporates energymanagement into everydayorganizational practices.

The Energy Management System coversall types/forms of energy used and everyfactor affecting energy use such asenergy supply, energy measurement,procurement of energy services, productsand equipment and design of energy-using equipment.

This standard can be implemented byorganizations in any sector.Implementation of the standard will leadto reduction cost, greenhouse gasemissions and other environmentalimpacts, through more efficient use ofenergy.

With the publication of ISO 50001:2011 inJune 2011, SIRIM QAS International isnow ready to offer certification to thestandard.
