Files on flash drive changed to shortcuts

A virus inf ected f lash drive can def initely create trouble. It is possible a virus in the f lash drive could alters

the names of the f iles to shortcuts. In this condition it becomes diff icult to view files even af ter the virus is

eradicated. This problem can still be tackled. If the f lash drive is not f ormatted, then f iles must have beenstored in the hardware in hidden mode. To retrieve the f ile, the correct procedures must be f ollowed.

Issue

I caught a viruson my f lash drive at work and it appears to have

changed all my f ile names t o short cuts . I believe I've cleaned the virus

but how do i get my f iles back so t hat I can view them?

Solution

If you did not f ormat your f lash drive, then check whether the f iles are

in hidden mode. Then follow these steps:

Click on the link below and download the f ile "AutorunExterminato r":

Extract it: Double-click on "AutorunExterminator"

Plug your pendrive now

This will remove the auto run.inf f iles f rom your pendrive and also f rom the drives

Click on Start > Run, type cmd and click OK

Here it is assumed your pendrive letter is G (change as necessary)

Enter this command.

att rib -h -r -s /s /d g:\*.*

Press Enter

Now check for your f iles in on the pen drive

Now download the Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware f rom this link:

Update it and perf orm a "Full Scan"

Note : The default selected opt ion is "Quick Scan"
