My Friends, culture is chez nous
MUSIC – CINEMA – PAINTING
June is here and so are the rains. For others it's early summer. This month we ask you to save a particular date, June 21st, which is the date for the festival of music. Organised for the first time in France in 1982, this festival is celebrated in over 120 countries worldwide.
This year, Alliance Française will host the World Music festival Ghana with Big Shots and Wind Africa to name but a few of the acts. There will also be music at the Golden Tulip Hotel on the 24th of June when New Orleans trumpeter cum vocalist Abraham Wilson will be accompanied by Ghanaian drummer extraordinaire Frank Kessi. Long live live music in Ghana.
It is not all about music in June. We meet Kalsoume SINARE BAFFOE, a popular Ghanaian actress who is not just in the top ten of Ghallywood or Nollywood but has also featured in Bollywood movies. We invite you to discover Kalsoume’s profile as we focus our lens on the great stars of the Ghanaian cinema.
To complete the trilogy, we bring you the enigmatic artist, Amarkine Amarteifio, who has been painting for over 26 years and is inspired by arts and philosophy.
Dear friends, MUSIC- CINEMA -PAINTING have their actors. However the actors of Ghana’s everyday life are also present in this issue and our vocation is to bring to you every month the real stars of Enjoy Magazine - YOU!
....Enjoy

hen I decided to write about form, I immediately thought that I would focus on proper form during training. Then I
realized that the position that I was in whilst I was typing was poor. I know better than to sit on my bed, with rounded shoulders, and a slouched back. As soon as I realized the irony, I picked up my laptop and travelled to my desk.
The truth is there is nothing that we do in life where good posture isn’t recommended. Life is a series of repetitive movements that impact the way that we present ourselves.
How do you want the world to see you? Here are a few of the most common bad postural habits, how they affect the body, and ways to correct them.
The Laptop Position. The laptop gave people the freedom to work on their computer anywhere. This causes people to slouch. Try to sit at desk or table to decrease the distance between the laptop and your face. If you choose not to sit at the table, place a huge pillow or book under the laptop to give you extra height. This will also prevent circulatory issues in your legs from developing due to the heat from the computer.
Weight Lifting Position. One of the problems with using machines to weight lift is that it can easily hide muscle weaknesses. I prefer people to use free weights and to work out with a partner. Both of these will allow you to feel if your body is weaker in one area. For example, if you use a shoulder press machine, you may not realize that one shoulder may be higher than the other or doesn’t move in the preferred direction. Whereas if you are using free weight or have someone watching, you would be more aware that the joint is restricted and be more likely to take caution or try to correct it.
Wallet In The Back Pant Pocket. Everyone loves a thick wallet, except your hip. If you place the wallet in your back pocket and sit on it, there is an automatic posture change in your hips and low back. This causes the support muscles to be more engaged on one side compared to the other. Many men discover that taking their wallet out of the back pocket and placing it in the front pocket decreases the hip and low back pain.
Sitting All Day. One thing I liked at my school was the tall desks at the back of the classrooms. You were encouraged to use them if you needed to stand and stretch. My school recognized that the body was made to move and being in one position 7 – 8 hours can cause all sorts of aches. Try to take a 5 minute stretch break every hour.
The Value of Proper FormSporting Activities. If you love to play golf, tennis or any sport, chances are you have a personal technique or style that you use often. For example, you may always swing the golf club with your right or kick the ball with your left. Even though this may be habitual, the body has to compromise your center of gravity which provides for your stability. This is why the professional athletes are coached, to utilize both arms and legs equally. Drills and exercises are designed to develop coordination and balance. You can accomplish this by dedicating more time (5-10 minutes) to your non-dominating limb with your preferred sports.
The lesson for the day is balance. We all have areas that need improvement. Try to single out your areas
so you can reap the long term benefits of optimal health.
“Everyone loves a thick
wallet, except your hip.”

got my Logan from CFAO Motors in October 2010. The first thing that struck me about the car was how comfy it was. I’m not sure what I was expecting, but it’s far
more spacious than it looks, and I was quite excited about that.
In fact the Logan is full of hidden surprises. Ghana’s roads are very
rough, but unlike my previous car the Logan has seats that relieve pressure on your back, so driving it is actually pretty comfortable, even on a bad road. The Logan also sits high off the ground, so when there are potholes in the road you don’t feel the bumps as much as in other vehicles. Can you imagine another modestly priced car feeling that solid? Try it!

I think test driving a Logan will change people’s minds and their perception of Renault. Driving mine these past several months has certainly helped to change my mind. This is what I call “value for money.”
Before I bought my Logan I actually thought I could only afford a second-hand car. I only hope I can keep it running like new over the coming 3 or so years, after all, that’s how long the guarantee lasts. Luckily I hear that the after-sales service at CFAO Motors is quick and painless, so I know that if anything
should go wrong with my car, I’ll easily find a professional helping hand.
Overall, if I needed a new car at this very moment, I’d go for a Logan again. It’s easy to manoeuvre and control and being able to relax in my car makes me feel extra safe. And the best part of it all is, not only did I get a brand new car at the price of a second-hand motor, but it also consumes less fuel than my previous car.
An investment worth repeating, I think!

omotex Ghana Limited, the authorized local representative of LG Electronics Korea in Ghana, participated in the inaugural
Water Africa and West Africa Building and Construction Fair which took place at the Accra International Conference Centre.
Somotex used the opportunity to introduce the new LG MULTI V PLUS III VRF air conditioner to the Ghanaian market. The introduction of the MULTI V PLUS III, which is LG’s newest HVAC solution in the fast expanding VRF segment which is the central part of LG’s strategy to secure US$ 10 billion in global sales for its air conditioning company.
The MULTI V PLUS III boasts three key consumer benefits, Higher Energy Efficiency, Largest Outdoor Unit capacity and Longest Piping Length. The unit’s energy efficiency ratio, boosted by LG’S unique inverter compressor V-Scroll and HiPOR TM (Hi Pressure Oil Return) technology, delivers a COP level of 4.6, one of the highest in the industry.
With an increased piping length of 1,000 mtrs (between farthest indoor unit & outdoor unit) and up to 20.0 HP capacity single outdoor (first in the industry), the MULTI V PLUS III is extremely straightforward to install and maintain.
The launch of the LG MULTI V PLUS III in Ghana, offers the local construction & building industry the best possible option for integrating optimal air conditioning solutions in building designs. A wide selection of indoor units with different capacities, helps in effective design and zoning of air conditioning loads to maximise operational cost savings. Somotex Ghana, LG’s long term partner, with offices in all the key cities in Ghana and its large base of skilled technicians, can ensure optimal design solutions, installation quality and post sales maintenance benefits to its valued customers across Ghana.

Dazzling Graphics Col lect ions By Vlisco
Go Figure! A graphic statement of outspoken silhouettes exemplifies the new 'Dazzling Graphics' fabric collection from Vlisco. In-focus outlines and an edgy sharpness creates a trompe l'oeil effect of movement. Distinct forms bedazzle the mind and set a psychedelic mood. Powerful colours dominate the colour palette, primary blue and yellow hues combined with stunning pinks and greens, resulting in a colourful futuristic scene.
Vibrant patterns produce three-dimensional perceptions that play with your mind. These striking designs can also be enjoyed as part of the 'Dazzling Graphics' fashion & accessories collection, available in Vlisco Boutiques as of May 2011.

Amarkine Amarteifio studied painting and drawing at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and graduated in 1990 with a First Class Honours. He
pursued his Masters Degree in African Art History in the same institution Art for him is a way of life. He thinks without art, the human spirit degenerates and society becomes prosaic. Amarkine has been painting for more than 26 years, during which time he has inspired many both through his art and his profound philosophy. During this period, his repertoire has spanned almost all the stylistic schools of modern art. Over the years, he has refused to be confined to a particular style or subject matter. This eclectic approach to art and life makes him both versatile and enigmatic. He has had several shows both at home and abroad. In 1998, he was the guest artist from Africa at the Indiana Black Expo "AFRICA CELEBRATION",USA. His works have been widely collected at home and abroad, adorning both private homes and offices.

y ou would probably agree that life is not simple anymore or at least the way we experienced it as children. Ghana
is changing! Society does not support families as it used to. Life is technological, quickly changing, and full of priorities that do not necessarily benefit the family as an institution. What do you do? If your company or job were falling apart, you would do whatever you had to save it. Does the same reasoning apply to the family?
The principles taught in The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Families, by Stephen R. Covey, can be used to build the strong loving family that last for generations.
A NEW LEVEL OF UNDERSTANDING & EFFECTIVENES
• A clear vision of destination
• A roadmap and flight plan.
• A compass to stay on course.
STRONG FAMILIES DON’T JUST HAPPEN
Strong families do not just happen. They need combined energy, talent, desire, and dedication of ALL their members. 7 Habits of Highly Effective Families show how families can incorporate principles into their daily lives through activities, meetings, and games that involve all family members and help to create a spirit of understanding, support, and enthusiasm. “Fail to plan, plan to fail”, to solve common family dilemmas, such as finding quality time to spend together, dealing with family disputes, healing broken relationships, and changing a negative family atmosphere, you must plan. You made a plan today! So sit down with your love ones and make a PLAN!
APPLYING THE 7 HABITS
You are the expert in your life. Take any challenge you are dealing with and apply the 7 Habits to develop a response that is true to principles.
HABIT 1: BE PROACTIVE
Become an agent of change in your family. Families and family members are responsible for their own choices and have the freedom to choose based on principles and values.
HABIT 2: BEGIN WITH THE END IN MIND
Developing a family mission statement. Families create a mental vision and purpose.
HABIT 3: PUT FIRST THINGS FIRST
Making family a priority in a turbulent world. Families are driven by purpose, not by agendas and forces around them.
HABIT 4: THINK WIN/WIN
Moving from “me” to “we”. Family members think in terms of mutual benefit.
HABIT 5: SEEK FIRST TO UNDERSTAND, THEN TO BE UNDERSTOOD
Solving family problems through empathetic communication (listening). Family members seek first to listen with intent to understand the thoughts and feelings of others, then seek to effectively communicate.
HABIT 6: SYNERGIZE Building family unity through celebrating differences. Family members thrive on individual and family strengths by valuing one another’s differences.
HABIT 7: SHARPEN THE SAW
Renewing the family spirit through traditions. Families establish traditions that nurture the spirit of family renewal.

Aries21/3-20/04
Taurus21/4-21/05
The month of June can be especially hectic for you, dear Aries, but it can also be extremely rewarding if you can manage to pace yourself. You can be pulled in many different directions, and you'll need to be both flexible and quick. Income should be good, although the inclination to spend is strong as well. This is a long-term influence that will be with you for a year. Some of you could be taking courses to better your skills. Your powers of persuasion run high this month, and you can very effectively "sell" your ideas.
While June is a month of opportunity, dear Taurus, avoid trying to "do it all" too soon and too quickly. Instead, focus on one or two opportunities and projects. It should be a strong month for money matters. You are likely to do some shuffling around with finances, and June is good for little windfalls, reducing debt, and the ability to borrow at favorable rates, if necessary. Changes in financial arrangements may be part of the picture now, such as dealings with a different bank or setting up a different payment schedule. Emotionally, you're definitely moving forward this month!
June While you can continue to find yourself in high demand at the beginning of June, dear Cancer, you're
likely to have an increased need for time to yourself and for extra rest as the month progresses. You tend to naturally withdraw from more competitive or demanding situations. You definitely need a break from a hectic pace and from the critical eyes of others. Even so, your job may undergo a number of little changes that require you to be adaptable and flexible. Friendships that allow you the freedom to be yourself and group associations can be especially pleasant and refreshing.
Gemini22/5-21/06
June can be a personally powerful month for most Geminis. Many of you will be reinventing yourself in some significant manner, with a new look or a new way of approaching the world. You're a self-starter this month, especially from the 21st forward. Friendships can be especially rewarding and helpful this month. Mid-month, close personal relationships come into strong focus and require special attention. Tend to the needs of a partner now. Love and social opportunities tend to emerge when you least expect them and are plentiful in June.

Libra24/9-23/10
Capricorn22/12-20/01
Cancer22/6-23/07
While you can continue to find yourself in high demand at the beginning of June, dear Cancer, you're likely to have an increased need for time to yourself and for extra rest as the month progresses.
Recognition for what you do and how well you do it is forthcoming this month, dear Leo. In fact, you're now entering a year-long cycle in which this kind of positive professional attention comes naturally, readily, and heartily! While career matters remain a strong focus, you're also branching out and networking. Friendships assume more importance in your life in June, and both friends and associates can be especially helpful. You're brimming with ideas about where you want your life to go, and your enthusiasm is infectious.
Your professional life is picking up speed this month, dear Virgo, and you might often find yourself smack in the middle of situations that require you to be on top of your game. Fortunately, you possess just the right attitude to meet challenges confidently. Be flexible in your expectations of others and treat any changes as chances to grow and improve. You are likely to want to improve your domestic life this month, making changes that allow for more space, whether that involves an actual move to a larger place, eliminating unnecessary furniture and accumulated possessions, or reorganizing in order to create the illusion of more space.
June is a considerably more outgoing month for you, dear Libra. You've been focusing on darker and deeper matters recently, and perhaps feeling a little out of step. This is changing rapidly this month as you seek new experiences and are exposed to broader ideas. While you can feel a tad restless at times, and possibly even hemmed in, you are bound to find ways to expand your mind. Students tend to fare well this month, even if it can be a little hectic. It's a strong month for travel as well. Energy levels increase and less resistance is encountered from others and from circumstances.
This month, you're entering a year-long cycle in which the way you relate to others on a one-to-one level changes and expands, dear Scorpio. You are likely to derive much pleasure from partnership, and people you meet can be most helpful at enlivening your life. By giving more freedom to a special someone in your life, you'll enjoy a stronger sense of personal fulfillment. June does require some adjustments, especially on a financial level, and particularly around the 15th. New budgets or payment plans may be necessary now.
June is a strong month for relationships, dear Sagittarius. Your willingness to listen to and support a partner is key. Socially, people are seeing you in a positive light. There is likely to be much going on inside this month, especially around the 15th, when you can arrive at a personal revelation or epiphany. Emotions tend to run high and there can be some level of drama in your relationships. Work matters are improving dramatically this month, and will continue to do so for many months to come. The only caution here is to avoid taking on too much at once. Your ability to make more out of whatever you have can greatly improve your situation, but if problems arise, these can be exaggerated as well.
Your major focus begins to turn to work and health matters in June, dear Capricorn, and while there can be an especially hectic pace and changes to contend with, it's likely to be a successful month overall. One reason is a wonderful shift in attitude that has you feeling particularly hopeful and confident. Resolving conflicts with others is favored, as you come across in a more favorable light than usual. You could experience some ego-boosting situations now. New visions of the future and new inspirations are likely to come along, and these can come through the people you meet this month.
You are coming out of your "shell" this month, dear Aquarius, and you're ready to have some fun. Fortunately, cosmic energy is ripe for providing you with the right circumstances under which to really enjoy and express yourself. Your romantic life can take center stage in June, and while there can be some social drama in your life now, for the most part you're likely to have a good time. It's a favorable month for announcing or showing your creative work. You are also entering a long-term cycle that brings more joy and pleasure to your domestic life. Problems are easier to work through with family members, and opportunities to improve living conditions can emerge.
While June can begin at a hectic pace, dear Pisces, you're likely to find much solace in home and family as the month progresses. Efforts to make improvements to your home life should be very successful this month, and you're likely to want to entertain from home or do some redecorating. This month, Jupiter moves to a favorable position in relation to your sign, boosting not only your confidence but also both motivation and ability to communicate effectively with others. New opportunities to learn and new intellectual interests are likely to round out your days well, bringing more satisfaction to your life.
