Leer From The Editor

Hello! Welcome to our first issue of EnigmaImage Magazine! We're excited to introduce what's going on in the Pisburgh music scene, as well as the best venues and other stories of local interest.

If you've been around the music scene for the past few years, chances are you've seen me buzzing around the room snapping pics of some of the best bands in town. It's been a pure joy and I've made so many wonderful friends whose passion for music is a pure addiction for me to capture.

Thus, EnigmaImage Thus, EnigmaImage was born out of a collaboration of many great people who spend their lives entertaining Pisburgh music lovers. We intend to bring you inside stories and pics from the best Pisburgh music legends, to the hoest up and coming performers. For the next three issues, we're running a poll to vote on your favorite Pisburgh bands, so be sure to vote and help them win! See hp://enigmaimage.com/hoestband to vote and see the current results.

We'll also let you in on some key upcoming events and talk about the venues who really support the local music scene.

WWe're extremely proud and honored to have Mr. Brian Drusky of Drusky Entertainment as our featured columnist. Brian is Pisburgh's #1 music promoter for bands in the area at some of the largest and well-known venues such as the Hard Rock Cafe, The Alter Bar, Carnegie Music Hall and others. Brian has given many local bands their first big break to play at world known venues and springboard them into the spotlight. Brian will be sharing his wealth of knowledge and wisdom about the local music scene to both music lovers and advice to bands with his own unique humorous spin on things. Brian is a true success story and the hardest working man in show business! So it’s no wonder man in show business! So it’s no wonder we're extremely excited that he's willing to take the time to let us in on the pulse of the local music scene!

Lastly, no magazine would be complete or able to survive without a few ads here and there, in which we'll be talking about some of the services EnigmaImage offers and other businesses as well. Don't worry though. The stories and pics of the musicians should more than make up for that!

I am Brian Drusky, owner of Drusky Entertainment. Each issue you will receive some insight into the music business. Maybe it will be some advice for local bands, or maybe just some fun memories about the music business. However, for my inaugural article, let us just start with a little overview into who we are and where we came from.

Drusky Entertainment is now 7½ years old. I started the company in the beginning of 2006, since

the corporate downsize from the company that was Clear Channel Entertainment, now known as Live Nation.

I booked about 1000 concerts while with DiCesare-Engler Productions in 1999. It was bought-out by SFX Entertainment, and eventually became Clear Channel Entertainment. DiCesare-Engler was a local promoter, just like myself only larger, at that time SFX Entertainment was out there buying local promoters all around the country and bought DiCesare-Engler Productions. Therefore, we went from being an eight-person office to a twenty-five person office, because that sale also brought Star Lake Amphitheatre (now the First Niagra AAmphitheatre) into the mix and a world of corporate Rock and Roll that no one in this city was used to…it was a big change!

Working for a large company, however, gave me wonderful opportunities. I traveled all the time while working for Clear Channel,Los Angeles, Nashville, New York, and Houston were common stops. My agenda also brought me into the mix of smaller cities around the region such as Erie, Wheeling, Charleston, Youngstown, Scranton, State College, and Johnstown.

However, let’s get back to some of those 1000 shows I booked for DiCesare Engler. There are some good stories there....I had booked eeveryone from Jerry Seinfeld in 4 different cites, Godsmack, Stone Temple Pilots, Hilary Duff and Creed to name a few and many dateswith 3 doors Down and 98 degrees in a number of different cities in the region. These are just some of the highlights I can remember at 3am as I write this column. They were some fun times…as I knew them before they were big!

Linkin Park opened up for The Union Underground in 1999 at Club Laga for $100. Nickelback played for 125 people at Nick’s Fat City when their first song came out. John Mayer did the same. He played for about 100 people at Nick’s Fat City and a year later, I booked hhim at the Chevrolet Amphitheatre, that show did 6000 people. I booked Eminem at Metropol before he was larger than life. Godsmack played to 300 people at Laga and a year later, they were doing arenas. The one good thing about working for an independent promoter like DiCesare-Engler was that I learned every aspect of the business from bookings, marketing, and production to dealing with legal contracts. In addition, when we moved on to being a large corporation, those skills were honed because we had larger teams to work with and many different ideas and experiences. All of that led me to start Drusky Entertainment in 2006. The Drusky Entertainment bubusiness started mainly with the severance package given to me because they had to buy out the balance of my contract. In a sense it was gamble, I took that money and made it work for me. The first year I made good decisions and had that money, grow larger and larger, to put on larger and larger shows.

There are a couple key points to Drusky’s business model in Pittsburgh. We were involved in the Trib Total Media Amphitheatre, an amphitheatre built upon the same area that the defunct Chevrolet Amphitheatre which was torn down a few years prior. The Trib Total mmedia Amphitheatre lasted for 3 years until Highmark stadium was built in its place in 2012. Drusky Entertainment then located a venue that is 100 years old and very rarely used; that of course, is the Carnegie Library Music Hall of Homestead. Now 200 shows later, everyone from Crosby and Nash, Queens of the Stone Age, Hanson, Aziz Ansari, Boz Scaggs, and Cody Simpson have played there. Another large aspect to the success of Drusky Entertainment was helping turn an old church into a dance club and live music venue, now known as the Altar Bar. At least 800 shows later, Altar Bar is the premiere 600 cap venue in the city where everyone wants to play and mmany have….from Snoop Dogg, Leon Russell, New Found Glory and Dj Shadow to name a few.

Lastly, in 2013, one of the hardest workers for Drusky Entertainment Josh Bakaitus, was named Vice President of the company. He has truly helped Drusky Entertainment grow to higher places, which we never believed possible. He keeps that ear to the ground on the newer younger acts and brings fresh ideas to the table all the time. Well there you have it...a little insight into the world of Drusky Entertainment...I hope you liked it...until next time....

Stay of Execution

Our page is created to help the dogs of this county...dogs IN the pound, and dogs trying to stay OUT of the pound Created/maintained by Volunteers.

Description DOG WALKERS NEEDED!!!!! Address: 7501 ANDERSON AVE, WARREN, OH 44484 (HOWLAND TOWNSHIP)Phone: 330-675-2787 HouHours: Mon-Fri 9:30 am to 4:30 pm and Sat 9 am to 1 pm

This is a county facility. The staff are not allowed by law to refuse any incoming dog. Therefore space is always a huge concern and dogs may have to be euthanized to make room for incoming, if the number of incoming exceeds available kennel runs, although every effort is made to avoid it..

A stray/lost dog must be kept for 72 business hours to allow time for an owner to locate their pet. An "owner-turn-in" is not lost, and therefore does not have to be kept for any length of time.

Rescue volunteers try to get as many as possible out to rescues around the country, and to spark public inpublic interest in adoptions. This is a former gassing facility, which has just recently switched to euthanasia by injection (spring/summer 2011).

Adoption Fee: $20 Dog License: $14 Mandatory Spay/Neuter Agreement with every dog adopted/rescued. Microchipping available: $25

The pound accepts payment in cash or by personal check. It does not have capability to accept credit or debit cards.

Most rescue groups use similar adoption procedures, including completing an application, checking a veterinary reference, conducting a phone interview and a home visit. Rescue organizations are usually volunteer-run organizations and survive on donations and adoption fees. The adoption fees do not always cover the significant costs involved in rescue, whirescue, which can include traveling to pick up an animal in need, providing veterinary care, vaccinations, food, spaying and neutering, training, and more.

A majority of the animals in the care of rescue groups live with foster home volunteers as members of the family until

an appropriate adopter is found. There are a number of different techniques that can be used to make the transition from life at a rescue’s foster home to an adoptive home easier on the animal. Generally, rescue groups provide adopters with basic information to aid in a successful transition.

Everybody knows, I could talk

about me all day long. Fact is,

I've spend many days doin' just

that. Today I wanna talk about

young folks. I always get excited

when I meet a young person that

iis interested in the music of my

generation. I remember going to

the Atlantic City Pop Festival in

1969 and watching BB King

perform and how it affected me.

I went out n' bought the BB King

Live At The Regal LP and studied

it for the next couple years.

I also expanded my knowledge of

all the blues masters. I seemed

to be more interested in the

older music than the music of my

contemporaries.

In the past few months, I've had the opportunity to meet a bunch a young folks that are reaching back to

sstudy the old fashioned musical ways.......at the Pittsburgh Blues Festival after Jam at Moondogs I got to

meet a young lady named Angela Mignanelli who sang an ole Leadbelly tune, In The Pines, she also did

The Rolling Stones, Dead Flowers. Jimmy Adler, the smokin' blues guitarist, has been hangin' with Angela

and sharing his insights with her about this older soulful music......passing on the knowledge......Young

guitar player, singer, Sam Louderback was also at that same jam session. I met Sam a week earlier hangin'

out at jazz master Kenny Blake's Tuesday night jam at Joey's in Export PA.......Shawn Mazzei also sat in at

MMoondogs for the after the Blues Fest jam. Shawn has been showin' up at my gigs wit his ax in hand for

the last year or so. W hen talking to this 20 year old, he always mentions that his guitar hero is the late

great Glenn Pavone who he got a chance to know before Glenn passed on. A young lady that's been showin'

up at my gigs for the past five years or so, Katie Simone, she been lying 'bout her age since she was 17, was

also at the after jam. Katie sang "Help Me Make It Thru The Night" the ole hopelessly romantic ballad from

the 1960's......she also sings some of my tunes......just a month or so ago I played a couple shows with young

ZZack W iesinger who is a very talented guitar player that straps on a strat, plugs it into a super, turns

up the reverb n' just smokes.........

I met a 14 year old Madie Laprie last January at a show. Madie, now 15, was singin' to prerecorded

tracks......I was moved by her soulful voice and have been workin' with her on a pop country song I wrote

a few years back, "Pennsylvania Rain"..........generations, meetin' in the middle, older folks gittin' wit younger

folks to bridge the gap.......young hearts gittin' wit da ole music....it makes my soul soar wit da eagle t'

know that there's a new generation comin' on down da line dat have a deep feelin' for da ole traditional

wways......tradition is not a dirty word, it opens da door to da past and to da music dat changed da world.....

there was a time when artist's made meaningful recordings that setup an entire career. I know that change

is good and that change is inevitable but I also know that music that is not disposable is where it's at......I'm happy t' know that there are bunch of young people out there that seek out da ole ways......seek and you shall find!

D.I.Y. SINCE 2011

UP & COMING, ORIGINAL, HARD ROCK N' ROLL, FROM PITTSBURGH!

E

Thanks for reading and stay FUBAR my Friends!

ver find yourself wondering what happened to original rock n’ roll? Well look no further as the solution has been found and it’s right here in your home town! FUBAR is Pittsburgh’s own, up and coming, original, hard rock n’ roll band with punk and reggae influences! We are 4 guys who love to make music and rock out… by true definition. Featuring 3 part vocals, unique lead riffs, and a powerful rhythm section; we’ll be sure to get one of our songs stuck in your head. We’d like to say “we’re sorry” and “you’re welcome” in advance.

We have been rocking, recording, and partying around the greater Pittsburgh area since September 2011. In the past 2 years, we have released 2 demo’s, a free EP, and a live album, all for free! At this point we are currently working on the release of our debut, full-length LP entitled “ALL DAY!!”, which should be available this fall. Since we are young, broke, and unsigned we consider ourselves to be a D.I.Y. (do it yourself) kind of band... To us this means that all recordings, artwork, video, and music is all created in house, by members or close friends of the band.

In addition to the recordings mentioned, we have been busy gigging anywhere and everywhere we can. We have played everywhere from various house parties in Greensburg to opening a Drusky Entertainment event featuring Death By Stereo (California Punk Rock) at the Smiling Moose on East Carson in the South Side. We were also lucky enough to make it to the final round of the Local Commotion Battle of the Bands at Gator’s Lounge in Jeannette! This Battle of the Bands featured some very tough local competition that included 20 local acts of various genere’s and performance was judged based on fan votes, originality, stage presence, and crowd interaction. We were very surprised and excited when FUBAR was chosen as the first presence, and crowd interaction. We were very surprised and excited when FUBAR was chosen as the first place winner! We have since had our fan favorite single, “Highway” played on local radio station; 105.9 the X, Edge of the X, Local Listen on several occasions.

We have had one hell of a journey thus far and are looking forward to where our music might take us next! If you could use some new music in your life and hard rock n’ roll is up your alley, feel free to check us out!
