Important SafetyInformation

Your Oki Data printer has been carefully designed to giveyou years of safe, reliable performance. As with all electricalequipment, there are a few basic precautions you should taketo avoid hurting yourself or damaging the printer.

• Carefully read the provided setup and operatinginstructions.

• Save all provided documentation for future reference.• Read and follow all warning and instruction labels on the

printer itself.• Turn off the printer before opening printer covers or

replacing consumables.• Unplug the printer before you clean it. Use only a damp

cloth; do not use liquid or aerosol cleaners.• Place your printer on a firm, solid surface. If you put it on

something unsteady, it may fall and be damaged. If youplace it on a soft surface, such as a rug, sofa, or cushion, the vents may be blocked, causing the printer to overheat.

• Protect your printer from overheating. Make sure noobstructions block the openings of the printer. Do not putthe printer on or near a heat source (such as a radiator orheat register). Keep the printer out of direct sunlight.Allow enough room around the printer for adequateventilation and easy access to the paper trays. If you putthe printer in any kind of enclosure, make sure theenclosure is properly ventilated.

• Do not use your printer near water. Do not spill liquid ofany kind into it.

• Be certain that your power source matches the rating listedon the back of the printer. If you are not sure, check withyour dealer or with your local power company.

• Your printer has a grounded, three-prong plug as a safetyfeature. This plug only fits into a grounded outlet. If theplug does not fit, the outlet may be an older, non-grounded type. Contact an electrician to have the outletreplaced. Do not use an adapter to defeat the grounding.

| OKICOLOR 812

• Install the printer near an easily accessed power outlet.• Avoid damaging the power cord. Do not put anything on

it or place it where it will be walked on. If the cordbecomes damaged or frayed, replace it immediately.

• If you are using an extension cord or power strip with theprinter, make sure that the total of the amperes required byall the equipment on the extension is less than theextension’s rating. The total ratings of all equipmentplugged into the outlet should not exceed 15 amperes.

• Do not poke anything into the ventilation slots of theprinter. You could get an electrical shock or causehazardous electrical arcing, which could cause a fire.

• Aside from the routine maintenance described in thedocumentation, do not try to service the printer yourself.Removing the cover may expose you to shocks or otherhazards.

• Do not make any adjustments other than those outlined inthe documentation. You may cause damage that willrequire extensive repair work. The provideddocumentation explains how to get your printer servicedby qualified Oki Data technicians.

If anything happens that indicates that your printer is notworking properly or has been damaged, unplug itimmediately and follow the procedures in the provideddocumentation for having your printer serviced.

Here are some of the things to look for.

• The power cord or plug is frayed or damaged.• Liquid has been spilled into the printer, or the printer has

been exposed to water.• The printer has been dropped, or the cabinet is damaged.• The printer does not function normally when you are

following the operating instructions.

1 Carbon Black

Group 2B “Possible Carcinogen”; IARC

Evidence of development of lung tumors in rats receivingchronic inhalation exposure to free carbon black at levelsthat induce particle overload of the lung. Studiesperformed in animal models other than rats have notdemonstrated an association between carbon black andlung tumors. A two-year cancer bioassay using a typicaltoner preparation containing carbon black demonstratedno association between toner exposure and tumordevelopment in rats.

In a study in rats by chronic inhalation exposure to atypical toner, a mild to moderate degree of lung fibrosiswas observed in 92% of the rats in the high concentration(16 mg/m3) exposure group, a mild degree of fibrosis wasnoted in 22% of the animals in the middle(4 mg/m3) exposure group, and no pulmonary change wasreported in the lower (1 mg/m3) exposure group, the mostrelevant level to potential human exposures.

Carbon black is designated hazardous according to OSHA29 CFR 1910.1200.
