Hidden ChampionKarl Platt triumphs with the uvex EDAero at the Cross- Country-race Cape Epic – using a road biking helmet.

Athletes and their equipment may not show a moment of weakness during Cape Epic, the toughest Cross-Country-race of the world, covering 15.000 meters in altitude dierence and 654 kilometres in 8 days.

Every second, every detail may decide about victory or defeat in this competition. uvex is specialised in devel-oping products that draw no attention in these extreme situations and support the athletes in achieving their top performances, like the aero-dynamic uvex EDAero, with which Karl Platt started at the Cape Epic 2016.

Dust settles on your skin. The tires lift it o the ground and carry it along the trail. Like a thick, brown layer it encloses everything it touches. Rider after rider. The sun beats down without mercy. Burns on the helmet and the lens of the glasses. Sweat collects in the pads and the Boa®-system of the uvex EDAero is still in place – also after nearly 600 kilometres.

Karl Platt speeds down the trail through the African scrubs. After six victorious stages he still has one to go. Only one more and then he won the Cape Epic race together with this team colleague Urs Huber. Why he chose to use a racing helmet in one of the hardest Cross-Country-races in the world? “We had headwinds and an aerodynamic helmet like the uvex EDAero quickly saves a few valuable extra watts,” says the exceptional 38-year-old athlete.

Made for extreme situations

The two riders from the Bulls team won the last stage as well, and stood at the top of the winner´s podium in the end. Holding the uvex EDAero in one hand. This is one of those moments the family company from Fürth works for. Of course the uvex products provide best-possible protection, but secretly, they do much more. Helmets like the uvex EDAero resist dust, heat and sweat.

Extreme conditions are handled easily and thanks to the eight integrated ventilation channels and the aerodynamic shape the airflow is directed around and through the helmet. The vertical ventilation slots on the front of the uvex EDAero make sure that the air flows straight through the helmet, minimizing swirls. This keeps your head pleasantly cool, even with African tem-peratures like during the Cape Epic. This way the uvex EDAero joins the aerodynamics of a drop-shaped time-trial helmet with ideal ventilation charac-teristics and a design made for everyday use. The result: an energy save of 16 watts* or converted 1 minute 25 seconds on a stretch of 40 kilometres at a speed of 38 km/h.

* Laboratory conditions at an average of 250 watts of power

The new race glasses uvex sportstyle 803 race vm are all about competition, and join the BMC-Etixx Pro Triathlon Team in the fight for the title of world champion.

Triathlon is a single fighter sport. But you can go further as a team, even in individual sports, as is proven by the world class athletes of the BMC-Etixx Pro Triathlon Team. They are supported by uvex, among other things with the newly developed uvex sportstyle 803 race vm. The glasses ensure unrestricted vision due to the lifted lens contours and the frameless design, and easily adapt to changing light condi-tions due to the variomatic lens.

36 victories, 81 podium positions and eight top-ten rankings in Triathlon world championships – this is the excellent result of two years in the BMC-Etixx Pro Triathlon Team. But why do eight world class athletes decide to train together in a solitary sport like the triathlon?

“We support and push each other past the limit. We train together, we suer and we laugh – and in the end, we get more motiva-tion this way and achieve our individual go-als,” explains Ronnie Schildknecht, member of the BMC-Etixx team.

On the podium with the uvex sportstyle 803 race vm

uvex supports the team as oªcial supplier and developed ultralight sports glasses specifically for competitions: the uvex sportstyle 803 race vm. The lens contour is drawn high up and reliably protects against UVA, UVB and UVC radiation even in a low riding position.

The large lenses protect against drafts, and the frameless design ensures an unrestric-ted field of vision on your bike. In forests or under direct sunlight, thanks to the uvex variomatic lens the glasses adapt to any condition, always providing perfect vision. Integrated lens ventilation prevents fogging on slopes or in the changing zone.

The perfect tint for every light situation. manual or automatic

The uvex variotronic® glasses adapt their tint to the light situation in less than 0.1 seconds – fully automatic or at the press of a button.

The uvex variotronic® glasses ensure you have the decisive advantage in the next com-petition. Fully automatic or at the press of a button, the tint of the high tech bike goggles can be changed in only 0.1 sec-onds. This is made possible by a laminate of liquid crystals that is electrochromatically activated by a photocell light sensor and reacts to current light conditions.

The starting field is tight. Glaring sunlight illuminates the street. At an average of 50 km/h you head towards the tunnel. Only a few more meters in the slipstream of the rider in front of you, and then you use the advantage.

The tint of your goggle lightens up in seconds when you enter the tunnel. Your vision is clear immediately and you speed past the rider you were following just seconds ago. You secure your position in the tunnel and keep your eye on the next group when you exit. Only a blink of an eye and your goggles tint dark again. You leave your pursuers behind.

Go for gold with high-end technology

Fast changes of light situations are a daily challenge for bike racing. Going from bright sun-light to dark tunnels can quickly become the knock-out factor.

Stop for a second to change lenses or even goggles? Unthinkable in competitions and a thing of the past with uvex variotronic®.

The revolutionary high tech goggles need only a split second to adapt the lens tint to the light situation of your surroundings.

This is made possible with an integrated light sensor and a specially developed liquid crystal foil that is activated elec-trochromatically, and tints or lightens the lenses in a matter of seconds, automatically or at the push of a button. The light permeability of the light setting is 55%, whereas the tinted lens only allows 11% of the light to pass. The goggles are operated with a rechargeable integrated battery that works up to 60 hours.

No matter what the light con-ditions are, uvex variotronic® enables top performances – without any delay. The goggles are available as Sport Shield, the so-called uvex variotronic® s and as full frame version, the uvex variotronic® .

Only one click The two new models uvex sportstyle 115 and uvex sportstyle 705 convince with lens changing technologies and make switching the lenses easy as never before.

Elaborate technologies can have a great positive influence on the fun factor while riding a bike. Eyewear with lens changing systems is ideal for alternating light conditions. You do not need to test your patience when trying to change your lenses on the road – the uvex engi-neers developed two new lens changing systems just for you. With only a click the lenses pop out in a matter of seconds, without pulling and pushing and unnecessary fingerprints on the lens.

Clouds are gathering. The sky turns dark all of a sudden. The contours of the path become blurred. You stumble over the trail half-blind. A short stop to change the lenses of your goggles. Carefully you take the lens holding it along the edges and try to change it without touching the glass. You slip. A fingerprint of sweat and sun cream becomes visible. The uvex engineers are familiar with this problem. That is why they put all of their eort into developing lens changing systems that allow fast and easy changing between lenses.

Changing in a matter of seconds - uvex sportstyle 705

With the so-called rotation pin the lens of the uvex sportstyle 705 can be switched within a matter of seconds. Due to a rotating motion the lower part of the frame opens downwards and the lens can be easily removed. For those with vision impairments the uvex sportstyle 705 also allows specific exchan-ge lenses. The goggles are also available as uvex sportstyle 705 v with uvex variomatic technology.

Switched by the push of a button - uvex sportstyle 115

The uvex sportstyle 115 only needs a click on the push but-ton on the inside of the frame to unlock the lens, allowing for easy and fast removal. The ad-vantage of the new technology: it is super-fast, and due to the short contact with the lens the cleaning eort required after changing the lens is significantly reduced.

On the technical blocked sections that alternate with flowing passages and North-Shore-areas. On the fast stretch-es that demand full concentration just before the last jump. All this is Enduro – the feeling of making record times, giving everything and celebrating the success with friends afterwards.

One for everything

uvex developed the uvex jakkyl hde for this feeling. A half shell helmet for uphill that transforms into an ultimate fullface helmet in ten seconds with an attach-able chin guard. Without any tools. With only 630 grams and an integrated 360 degree Boa®-system it remains stable uphill and downhill the same. Thanks to the integrated goggle halter the uvex jakkyl hde can be worn as half-shell or fullface with goggles and the goggles can be simply slipped underneath the adjustable visor if not needed.

14 ventilation channels provide best-possible airflow. As a real racing machine it is certified for international races like the European Enduro Series and the Enduro World Series. It is pure Enduro and combines athletic peak performances with a lot of style. A helmet that stands for top performance but does not take itself too seriously in the process. No matter whether in Enduro races, in the Bikepark or on your home trails, the uvex jakkyl hde is synonymous for finest Enduro mountain biking.

One helmet – two faces

The detachable chin guard makes the uvex jakkyl hde the star of the Enduro collection and a multi-talent in the mountains.

Enduro mountain biking is trend. Using all of the mountain: up and down. Going out with friends, pushing each other to the limit, speeding on technical trails and setting new re-cords. Enduro is athletic competition, but also laid-back lifestyle. On ex-posed trails Enduro mountain bikers value highly technological products that provide excellent protection but convince in terms of style as well. The uvex jakkyl hde oers exactly that and is a laid-back state-of-the-art trail companion thanks to the detach-able chin guard and the half shell or fullface helmet.

Sweat is forming on your forehead. Tires grip into gravel. Four, five mountain bikes are climbing the last stretch up the mountain. Rear shocks give way, forks are lowered. At the top, knee protectors are pushed back into place. The chin guard is clipped to the helmet. Goggle on and get into starting position. The last stage and you are still leading. Now, all focus is on the trail.

There are many reasons for preferring the bicycle to other means of transport in the city. Along with fl exibility, independence and a distinct environmental consciousness, this includes the desire for more exercise or the avoidance of stressful, inner-city traffi c jams. But even though more and more people leave their cars in the garage and use a bike instead, safety awareness is not yet very widespread among many. Bicycle helmets are not mandatory, but play an important role in preventing serious head injuries in case of accidents. This is why the uvex experts have thought about how to make city helmets even more attractive in order to convince more people of their benefi ts.

uvex fi ts my style

The new uvex city helmet collection convinces every-day athletes with clever features, ideal protection, and a lot of style

In traffi c-congested metropo-les, the bicycle has become the ultimate means of trans-port. But only 31% of all bikers wear a helmet on a regular basis. Much to inconvenient or simply not cool enough are some of the preconceptions of the helmet adversaries. With its new city helmet col-lection, uvex proved that bicy-cle helmets are by all means able to provide ideal protec-tion in a stylish package. The models not only underline personal style, but gain points with elaborate features like visors for eyeglass wearers or attachable LED systems for additional visibility.

Page 11: ENGLISH VERSIONPress Kit 2017 - Hansmann PR · 2016. 10. 18. · ENGLISH VERSIONPress Kit 2017. DEAR JOURNALISTS uvex has stood for innovative products and know-how in the cycling,

Through the city in style

As a supplier of international top athletes, uvex has a lot of know-how in helmet pro-duction. The transfer of this knowledge from professional sports into the city helmet sec-tor and production of stylish helmets in the process was the objective in the development of the new city helmet collection. In order to consider individual needs, uvex emphasized ver-satility and developed models that are not only safe, but also make a style statement. Futuri-stic visor meets dirt helmet and ultra-light city version mingles with the urban mountain bike helmet. This way everybody, from athletic jeans and sneaker type to businessman/woman finds the perfect helmet for that individual look.

Plug-in LEDs for more visibility

However, not only style but safety with visibility is essential in street traªc. For this reason uvex equipped the helmets of the new city collection with reflection straps and logos. These are well visible to other drivers even in fog and strong rains or during the night. The plug-in LEDs are available in five dierent designs, matching each respective helmet, and are simply inserted in a slot at the back of the helmet.
