    PREFACE

National priorities, in the emerging post-modern era, are determined largely

by the educational system of a country and its modulating components.Educational vision of the present democratic government may not be all that

difficult to translate into reality, given the way the curriculum as well as the

examination system is being radically restructured. The Herculean task of

improving the current system of education, which lacks substance meaning and

purpose, has been undertaken with a view to giving a fillip to the process of

acquiring knowledge and cognitive development, rather than simply learning by

rote. The objectives of the new examination system are to produce students who

would be capable of thinking independently and clearly, asking questions out of

curiosity or inquisitiveness (such as why, how, what, etc) and finding answers on

their own. Keeping in view the avowed objectives, the Federal Board assumed the

responsibility of reforming the examination system by framing model question

papers for the SSC composite examination 2007 and the HSSC Part-I examination

2007. The Board has embarked on the challenging task of replacing the

conventional system of examination which focused primarily on testing the

memory of the examinee. The FBISE has introduced the revised system of

examination which hopefully would rectify the undesirable and unwanted features

of the education system. This bold initiative of the FBISE has been appreciated

widely in the educational circles of the country as well as abroad.

In conformity with the desired objectives of the reformed examinationsystem, the model question papers for the HSSC Part-II examination 2008 have

been prepared. This booklet encompasses the syllabus, model question papers, and

the restructured scheme of studies. It focuses also on the aims and objectives of the

curriculum of the concerned subject. Guidelines and instructions for both teachers

and students have also been incorporated into the booklet for ensuring smooth flow

of the teachinglearning process. It will guide the students from the classrooms to
