English standards
Raise the bar in terms of appropriate use of English (spoken and written).
Aim:
Improvement in the quality of language used by students
English: Correct usage 2012
Why? Students must learn to value English and its use in order to command the language to desired levels and to take full advantage of the British Curriculum.
‘We strongly believe that students must learn to value language and should therefore show respect to its use in all forms and at all times’
Oral English should be at the heart of the learning process in all
British curriculum lessons It is expected that students use English in lessons where the teaching
medium is English. An expectation of correct English must be made to promote high
standards.
Teachers provide positive, selective oral feedback and correction. Teachers provide opportunities within lessons for students to use oral
English in their learning The oral English activity guide is to be referred to by teachers when
planning lessons.
Teachers praise good usage using the English rewards procedures (including use of Student diary)
Teachers incorporate Oral English assessment opportunities into their programmes of study and lessons, providing constructive feedback to students.
