INTRODUCTION

The 1960s was a decade that began on January 1, 1960 and

ended on December 31, 1969.The 1960s is also called The

Sixties, denoting the inter-related cultural and political events

across the globe.

In the United States, John F. Kennedy, made social reforms like

civil rights for African Americans and healthcare for the elderly

and the poor. During his presidency, the first man go to the

Moon…

DEVELOPMENT

At the beginning of the 1960s, pop and rock and roll music of

the 1950s continued. By the mid-1960s, rock and roll gradually

changed by pop rock , beat , psychedelic rock , blues rock and

folk rock. The country and folk style associated with the latter-

half of 1960s rock music gave a generation of popular singer-

songwriters.

The most important singers are Cher , Bob Dylan , Elvis Presley

and the bands the Rolling Stone , The Beatles and The Who.

Page 6: English Projects 6° & 7° form 19De15

6

The hits of the decades are…

Cher : Cher blows.

Bob Dylan: Honey Just Allow Me One More Chance.

Elvis Presley: Stuck on You.

Rolling Stone : (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction.

The Beatles: I want to hold your hand.

The who: My Generation.

CONCLUSION

The 1950’s are considered the ‘Golden Age’ of family, where

every family was a traditional, nuclear family. This idea

disappeared in the 60’s and 70’s by a permissive society, which

‘attacked’ family values.

Around the 60’s:

1. Abortions were legalized.

2. The contraceptive pill became free

This gave women the freedom to control their bodies and their

fertility and freedom and the opportunity to be more equal with

men. Some example of these are:

1. Equal Pay

2. Equal Opportunities

3. Divorce Reform etc.

In our opinion, abortion must not be legalized in our country.

Conclusion Some of the advantages of the 80s are:

Surgical procedures to the body to appear younger.

Advance of Technology: In our modern society, people can't see themselves without computers, cell phones, voice mail...etc..

In our opinion:

The surgical procedures to the body are important if you have an

accident or because of a desease but not to appear younger and

change your real image .

It is good to be in contact with others but the problem is that it can bring

addiction to it.

The Egypt Pyramids

INTRODUCTION

A pyramid is a solid figure whose base is a polygon and whose sides that

meet in a common vertex or apex of the pyramid. The triangular sides are

called lateral faces. The altitude of a pyramid is a perpendicular distance

from the vertex to the base.

DEVELOPMENT

Page 29: English Projects 6° & 7° form 19De15

29

Egyptologists and historians debated the question of who built the

Pyramids, and how were they built.

Standing at the base of the Pyramids at Giza, for example, is hard to

believe that any of these enormous monuments were built in one

pharaoh's lifetime.

Who built the pyramids?

The first pyramid was built by King Djoser during Egypt's Third

Dynasty. His architect, Imohtep, created a step pyramid by putting

six stones one next to the other. Inside the pyramids, most of the

kings were buried. The largest and most well-known pyramids in

Egypt are the Pyramids at Giza, designed for Pharaoh Khufu.

It is estimated that between 20,000 and 30,000 laborers were

needed to build the Great Pyramid at Giza in less than 23 years.

How old are they?

The Djoser pyramid (2630-2611 BC). The Giza Pyramids (2551-2472BC). A selection of 5th Dynasty pyramids (2465-2323 BC). A selection of 6th Dynasty pyramids (2323-2150 BC). A selection of Middle Kingdom pyramids (2040-1640 BC).

What were the purpose of the Pyramids? Their purpose was not architectural but religious; the Pyramids of Egypt were tombs that descended from the most primitive of burial mounds. Apparently the Pharaoh believed that every living body didn’t die

with the last breath, that is why the flesh must be preserved against

violence and decay.

Papyrus

Papyrus is a thick paper-like material produced from the papyrus

plant, its use for producing a medium for writing purposes, papyrus

was also used for mattresses on beds, for building chairs, tables,

and other furniture as well as for mats, baskets, boxes, sandals,

Page 30: English Projects 6° & 7° form 19De15

30

utensils, rope and boats. The papyrus root was also a source of

food, medicine and perfume.

CONCLUSION

We come to the conclusion that it is difficult to believe that the Egypt

Pyramids were built by people without any kind of technology. In

Fact the building of the Pyramids continue being a mystery for the

whole the Humanity.

Eiffel Tower

Introduction

The world's most famous landmark is the Eiffel Tower.

It announces to all that you see: “This is Paris”.

It stands on the horizon of Paris and is the major

icon in the history of construction of buildings.

Development

As the French government was planning the Centennial

Exposition of 1889, an exhibition to celebrate the

French Revolution, a known engineer Alexandre

Gustave Eiffel, was asked to design and build a

Page 32: English Projects 6° & 7° form 19De15

32

structure for the occasion. His tower got praise and

criticism and a lot of wonderful comments. After the

Centennial Exposition of 1889 , Eiffel knew he had to

find new cost-effective ways to save the tower.

A public company was in charge of the Eiffel Tower

for many years but then it passed to the government

of the city of Paris. The tower was reconstructed and

renovated in 1981-1983 in preparation for its 100th

anniversary in 1989. The renovation cost about $ 40

million.

The Eiffel Tower is a 984-foot (300 meter) tall and

is made of iron; it was the tallest structure in the

world. Elevator Company designed elevators with

glass walls to reach the first and second stages.

From the second floor of the third platform, which is

near the top, four balanced elevators go up and down

. On the first floor and second floor there are

restaurants: Le Parisien on the lower level and La

Belle France at the top level. The part in the third

Salle (hall) is used for business, conferences,

exhibitions, cultural events and social meetings.

There is a gift shop and a snack bar on the second

smallest plant. Even at this level, it is possible to

have a great view of Paris without having to go to

the top.

Page 33: English Projects 6° & 7° form 19De15

33

Conclusion

We chose this monument because we think is the most

beautiful of the world.

INTRODUCTION

The Big Ben is the nickname for the great bell of the clock at the north end of the Palace

of Westminster in London.

DEVELOPMENT

The new Parliament was built in a Neo-gothic style. Barry was the chief architect of the

Palace but Augustus Pugin was the designer of the clock tower. It was his last design

before his death.

Pugin wrote: "I never worked so hard in my life except for Mr. Barry and fortunately the

clock tower was beautiful." The tower was designed in Gothic style, and is 315 feet

(96.0 m) high.

CONCLUSION

At present, the Parliament and the Big Ben are the most important attractions in London.

Millions of people walk around them and take a lot of photographs.

We’ll wish to travel to London someday to visit the Parliament and the Big Ben.

COLISEUM

INTRODUCTION

The Coliseum is an amphitheater of the Roman Empire period,

built in the century I, in the center of the city of Rome.

Flavia Dynasty emperors built it but Nero didn't conserve it.

The Coliseum is one of the most famous monuments of

classical antiquity which was declared a World Heritage Site

by UNESCO in 1980 as one of the New Seven Wonders of

the Modern World on July 7, 2007.

DEVELOPMENT

THE COLISEUM CLASSIC

Page 36: English Projects 6° & 7° form 19De15

36

At 29 AD, Taurus Statilius Roman consul built The Coliseum

Classic which was the first large amphitheater of the city,

with all necessary facilities. This building was destroyed in

the Great Fire of Rome in AD 64. From that moment on,

there was a need for a new theater for the city .

The New Coliseum was built in the same site of the previous

one under the rule of Emperor Vespasian, between 70 and 72

AD.

THE COLISEUM OF THE MIDDLE AGES

The Colosseum had major changes in its use during the

medieval period. At the end of the sixth century a small

church was built in the structure of the amphitheater, but

apparently nobody gave religious significance to the building.

In the Middle Age, there was an earthquake that caused

major damage and the building was abandoned.

COLISEUM IN THE MODERN AGE

During the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, the Coliseum

was consecrated by Benedict XIV as a holy place in memory

of the martyrs executed there.

CONCLUSION

The Colosseum is ,without any doubt, one of the great

tourist attractions of Rome. It was included into a film

multiple times, with digital reconstruction as shown in

“Gladiator film “.

In 1980, UNESCO declared the Colosseum as a World

Heritage Humanidad. Since 2000, the authorities have

maintained the building illuminated for 48 hours each time

somewhere in the world someone is sentenced to death.

Coliseum

Introduction

The Roman Coliseum is located in the center of the City of

Rome. Originally it was called the Flavian Amphitheatre,

and then it took the name of Coliseum by a large statue

located next to it; “ the Colossus of Nero”.

Development

We know that it was built under Emperor Vespasian, in a

place where Nero had built a lake when ordered to burn

Rome.

No one knows who was given its design and construction

to but Rabirius , Severo, Gaudencio or Apollodorus of

Damascus were always mentioned .

Page 38: English Projects 6° & 7° form 19De15

38

It had a forum for 50,000 spectators where gladiators

fighted and many people were the spectators. It was built

between 70 and 72 AD.

The Coliseum has enormous measures: 188 meters and

156 meters radius larger. It has an elliptical shape. It is 57

meters high. Inside, under the bleachers, the Coliseum

has long corridors that permit attendees to enter and

exit with ease. The boxes had an anteroom and were

used according to the social position of the viewer.

Conclusion

At present, The Coliseum is the most important attraction

in Rome and fortunately it will never be used as a place

for fighting and killing people.

The tower has three levels for visitors. Tickets can be get to

ascend, by stairs or lift (elevator), to the first and second

levels. The walk from ground level to the first level is over

300 steps, as it is the walk from the first to the second

stairs exist but they are not usually open for public use.

Both the first and second levels have got restaurants.

The tower is the most prominent symbol of both Paris and

France.

The purpose of the Eiffel Tower was to be an observation

tower and mainly a tourist site. Although The tower was to

be built only for this purpose, then the government of

France decided to keep it where it is as the most important

attraction in Paris.
