The English curriculum in Wake County uses Common Core Standards. Each grade level will address the four main literature units below with a different perspective. English IV analyzes these topics with a psychological impact lens. Within each unit, other texts (poetry, nonfiction, excerpts) will also be used to address the standards assessed in that unit. Communication Statement As seniors prepare for college and life after high school, we strongly encourage them to advocate for themselves and speak directly with their teacher about issues or concerns. Grading Policy: 40 % = First 9 Weeks 40 % = Second 9 Weeks 20 % = North Carolina Final Exam (NCFE) Class Assessments and Assignments: Honors: 60 % = Major Assessments 25 % = Minor Assessments 15 % = Formative Assessments (homework/classwork/Membean) Membean Ms. Wernersbach Google Classroom: Period 3 – mme7o7r Period 4 – dy7dqex Membean Period 3 – A2XQF3Q Period 4 – A2XQ9Q2 English IV H Membean quiz dates Vocabulary is an essential part of the English IV curriculum. Students will be using Membean to strengthen vocabulary skills over the course of the semester. Details on how to enroll and get started will be provided by the teacher. Each student is required to work in Membean for 45 productive minutes each week. Assessments are given every other week. Weekly 45-minute Membean Practice Session due every Sunday by midnight. Quizzes will be on Tuesdays, every two weeks. Students may eat lunch in the cafeteria or in the classroom with a teacher. STAR Lunch Incentive: Attend STAR lunch for at least a half session on FOUR SEPARATE DAYS and LOWEST QUIZ (minor assessment) GRADE will be dropped for quarter. NOTE: Writing Assignments or Assignments not turned in CANNOT be dropped. Technology English IV will be using technology on a regular basis. If you have a laptop or iPad, please bring it to class on a daily basis. With both phones and laptops, the student is responsible for using the device within WCPSS guidelines and for academic purposes only. We have discovered that most of the time phones are a source of distraction more so than a learning tool.
