    Dear Sir or Madam,

    It is my sincere pleasure to invite you to join me at high tea on Wednesday,

    January 13th or Thursday, January 14th in Room 5003 at Lambert High

    School. Please be advised that some of the topics we expect to discuss are:

    The role of the government in our daily lives

    The strengths & weaknesses of capitalism

    The impact of industrialism on the traditional English way of life

    The new art forms

    The franchise (vote)

    This tea is formal, so please come in the appropriate attire.

    We are looking forward to receiving your response. Among the guests

    invited are: Queen Victoria, Joseph Lister, Karl Marx, Frederick Engels,

    William Thackeray, Ford Madox Brown, Lord Palmerston, Charles

    Darwin, T. H. Huxley, Herbert Spencer, James McNeill Whistler,

    Benjamin Disraeli, William Gladstone, Robert Owen, John Stuart Mill,

    Oscar Wilde, Charles Dickens, and George Eliot. Please prepare 5

    questions for those on the guest list to keep our conversation lively!

    Grading Rubric: Gallery Walk Poster[30 points]

    o For your character, create an 8.5 X 11poster with the following pieces: Color picture of our character Philosophical ideas (bulleted points is acceptable) related to topics above Important written works, art pieces, or other pertinent publications

    Facts that make them famous/memorableo Due: TUES. 1/12 at the beginning of class- print 1 copy for me to be

    turned in with your response after the Salon. We will use these in agallery walk in class to get familiar with each character and preparequestions for each other for the salon!

    Bibliography: include a Works Cited page for where you found your information; atleast 2 sources (ahem, your book should be one of the sources!). (MLA format, typed)[10 points]

    Participation: you must be observed entering into the spirit of the enterprise andtalking about the issues or philosophies of the day. PrepareFIVE QUESTIONSforothers in the salon to keep the conversation going. [30 points]

    Personal Response: after the Salon, write a journal describing the Salon, whom youencountered, and what you talked about. (1 typed page, double-spaced, 12 point font,

    Times New Roman, 1 inch margins on all sides/top/bottom, one line header with nameand period only) [30 points] DUE: FRI., 1/19- see list below

    DEDUCTIONS: you could lose 1 point every time a waiter, the teacher, or anotherparticipant, hears you talking about non-18thcentury topics!

    BONUS: you could receive bonus points for coming in costume! (up to 5 points)

    On Friday 10/30 turn in to Mrs. Roy:This coupled with participation will constitute the Summative Grade.
