EF logo by Paul Rand In order to reinforce our new identity, we needed a new logo to represent all of our products around the world. Updating our old logo—designed by Paul Rand, one of the world’s most famous graphic designers

To redesign our logo we selected Henry Steiner, a one-time student of Paul (Henry’s most famous design is the logo for HSBC.) The result, which you see above, elegantly integrates Education First Rand’s original logo was, well, a Rand design — perhaps not as superb as, say, IBM or UPS, but still smart, beautifully crafted and timeless. The redesign was commissioned to integrate “Education First” into the mark, to allow room for the product/service name to be locked-up, and to provide EF with a logo “…to represent all of our products around the world.” Steiner’s design retains the foundation of the Rand mark and executes the update around it with careful craftsmanship. When the logo is set with a product name the neutrally-toned typography finds a good visual balance. The drop shadow is an extra visual element that while not necessarily helping the semantics of the mark (it plays more contrast to the concentric circles than support) does help alleviate the blue box from being a visually flat containing shape.

Since 1990 EF has been cooperated with Apple to manufacture a new online learning system.

1995 result in “ Englishtown ”

Why does learning have to follow the age-old classroom method? Why can't students be taught in their very own homes?

Why can't we make studying English easier and more flexible for everyone?

These questions inspired Englishtown's To use technology to create a fundamentally better way of learning English. This concept, backed by EF's thirst for innovation and willingness to make smart, long-term investments, resulted in the creation of the world's most advanced language learning system

Bill Fisher, CEO of Englishtown, co-founded the online school as an EF company in 1996.
