    A. Cavaliers/Royalists = supported king

    B. Roundheads = supported Parliament

    A. Parliament abolished the monarchy

    B. created a commonwealth 1649-1653

    1. like a republic – vote for who has power

    2. all participants are equal

  • C. Oliver Cromwell - Puritan

    1. became leader of new Commonwealth

  • III. The Restoration

    A. Parliament gave power to Charles II
