There are 26 alphabets in English language.

A , E , I , O , U are five vowels.

Other 21 alphabets are known as Consonants.

There are three articles. They are as follows:

A , AN and THE.

INDEFINITE ARTICLE :- ‘A’ If first letter of Common

Nouns is pronounced as Consonants and if it is singular , then “a” should be put before it.

Example:- A boy , A book , A cat..

Examples :-i. I am a pupil.ii. You are a teacher.iii. She is a doctor.iv. This is a cat.v. This is a tree.vi. That is a book.vii. He is a cricketer.

There should be no article before any Proper Nouns.

Examples :-i. I am Vama.ii. He is Pujan.iii. She is Krishna.iv. You are Mr. Trivedi.v. She is Miss Saniya.

There should be no article before any plurals.

Examples:-i. They are doctors.ii. We are farmers.iii. These are boxes.iv. There are dogs.v. We are pupils.

Indefinite Article:- ‘AN’ An is also put before Common

nouns. The letters starting with vowels

should also begin with ‘an’. Examples :-i. This is an apple.ii. That is an elephant.iii. Manu has an orange.iv. Sonam ate an ice-cream.v. Tarun has an umbrella.

The vowels of consonants are pronounced by ‘an’.

Eg :- An hour , An honest man. There should be no ‘an’

before any plural. Examples :-i. He sells apples.ii. I am eating oranges.iii. Those are elephants.

Definite Article :- ‘THE’

Examples :-i. This is a book. The book is new.ii. This is a table. The table is old.iii. This is an apple. The apple is red.iv. This is an umbrella. The umbrella

is blue. If any noun is repeated , then

‘the’ is used.

See the following sentences :-i. The sun rises in the east.ii. The moon is beautiful.iii. The sky is blue.iv. The Ganga is a holy river. In sentences from 1 to 3 before

sun, moon, sky there is ‘the’ because they are made by nature.

In sentence 4 before Ganga there is ‘the’ because it is a river.
