Film Final Project Pre AP English 10 [50 Points] For your final film project, you are given two options to choose from: Creating an original short film as a small team, or individually selecting a full-length film of your choice for repeated, careful viewing, and writing a film analysis essay on it. Both options should represent your understanding of film devices and their effects (see film terminology handout). These options differ in that the original short asks you to demonstrate your knowledge through creation, whereas the film analysis asks you to identify and analyze the choices of others in a professionally produced film. In either case, you should have something in the end that you are proud of – either a self-made film or an analytical essay. Original Short Respond to the prompt: A day in the life of a Woodinville student. The rest is open to interpretation. Production teams should be 2-5 people. The video needs a good storyline (see narrative arc notes), careful acting, filming and editing. Your movie should skillfully, effectively, and artistically demonstrate a variety of film devices to create meaning for viewers that is appropriate to your film’s genre, theme and story. The end product should be about five minutes in length and appear polished. or Film Analysis Select a movie of your choice and see me for prior approval. Respond to the prompt: What is the meaning of this film and how does the movie create it? In answering this overarching question, you should write your own guiding question that is slightly more specific to your chosen film (e.g. Within The Truman Show, why do viewers like to watch Truman on ‘reality TV’?”). Then, set about answering this question through the identification and analysis of various specific film devices. Utilize key scenes (2-3) to answer your guiding question, and get down to the details, including showing the use and effect of present film devices within the movie. Don’t attempt to analyze every scene or answer every possible question for the film; stay focused. The essay should be 3-4 double-spaced pages.
