FIRE ALARMS & DETECTION

When designing a fire detection and alarm system, in addition to deciding the type of system, detectors, call points and

sounders to be used etc., there are also other aspects which need to be considered.

These include:• Measures to limit false and unwanted alarms

• Method of installation

• Materials required during installation

For any system to function reliably and to provide a problem free service throughout the life of the system, all of these aspects

must be considered in the overall system design and plan.

At Si, we have experience in working with numerous international bodies such as BS and NFPA as well as experience of local

in-country standards.

CONTROLS & AUTOMATION

Controls and BMS Design

Intelligent automation systems reduce energy consumption & improve operating efficiency without compromising

performance and comfort.

At Si, we design and audit automation and control systems for all building types, sizes and use. Our consultants have

experience in legacy systems as well as a broad range of new systems converged over open communication standards and

interfaces. These include:

CONTROLS & AUTOMATION | FIRE ALARMS & DETECTION

BMS Audits & Optimisation

A BMS typically controls 50-65% of a building’s energy consumption. If designed and installed correctly, the BMS will

provide comfortable internal conditions without wasting energy. In our experience, this is rarely achieved and we offer a

BMS Audit and Optimization service to correct common faults. The process we undertake is as follows:

We find that the top 5 BMS failings are as follows:

SCADA Security Audit

At Si, we specialize in Vulnerability Assessment and Penetration Testing for SCADA systems. We review our Clients’ networks to

INFORMATION COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY (ICT)

We believe that ICT networks have the potential to be a capital asset; providing our clients with returns through revenue

and operational efficiencies. It is this view that allows us to achieve greater value for our clients: through our no nonsense

approach to network architecture planning & design.

To meet the demands of the technology evolution and manage data consumption increases, ICT networks must be adaptable,

scalable and secure. The situation is further complicated by the increase in usage and reliance upon mobile and online

computing, which presents risks to security and associated management requirements.

We are 100% vender independent and recommend solutions and designs that provide the highest and best available use of

technology with the best possible return on investment.

ENGINEERING & TECHNOLOGY | CAPABILITY STATEMENT | 17NETWORK ARCHITECTURE | WAN & LAN NETWORK DESIGN & WIRELESS NETWORKING

NETWORK ARCHITECTURE

We have full capability in providing network architecture to support numerous applications. We also utilize our vast

experience and knowledge to act as professional assessors with respect to the security architecture of our clients’ networks.

We put in place the necessary recommendations for upgrades relating to performance, functionality and security.

WAN & LAN NETWORK DESIGN & WIRELESS NETWORKING

WAN & LAN Network Design

As technology continues to develop and evolve so too must an organization’s IT and Telecoms networks. Adaptability &

scalability is the prin cipal that we embed into our ICT networks and Telecoms infrastructure plans, but with equal importance

these principals should be employed at the right cost. As a capital asset, organizations have commonly undervalued the

importance of IT networks - we challenge this position. In the right hands, our clients’ networks can provide returns either as a

source of revenue or through operational efficiencies.

Our services include:

Wireless Networking

Getting the basics right is fundamental to achieving an optimal design. We conduct a site survey or a predicted survey as well

as producing heat maps to provide us with a detailed view of our clients’ infrastructure.

Applications are directly linked to the user groups and these may include mobile VoIP, hand-held scanners and wireless CCTV,

with different administration rights associated with each group.

When designing a wireless network, we consider a number of different factors:

We provide:• Capacity Planning

• Passive Network Design

• Storage Planning

• Wireless Networking

• VoIP Services

• WAN & LAN Networking

• Network Security

• Information Security

• Network Hardening

• Penetration Testing

Projects include: Abu Dhabi Airport, Terminal 1, Hilton Doha, Pune ICT Park, India and Eastern Mangroves (Anantara

Hotels) Abu Dhabi.

CLOUD & VIRTUALIZATION

Cloud Computing is a synonym for distributed computing over a network and it gives users the ability to run a program on

many connected computers over LAN/WAN at the same time, through a centralised server. IT departments and organizations

have come to value the benefits of Cloud, which include rapid server deployment, higher application availability and quicker

recovery for software failures. At Si, we are vender agnostic and support all major platforms.

We provide: • Cloud Design & Architecture

• Cloud Security

• Virtualization

• Integration Services

• Compliance & Policies

• Business Continuity Management

• Mobile Device Management

ENGINEERING & TECHNOLOGY | CAPABILITY STATEMENT | 19

VOIP SERVICES

We help our clients establish a specific, effective baseline for their VoIP solution deployment, and ensure the best possible

system and network performance.

VOIP | CLOUD & VIRTUALIZATION

Due to bandwidth efficiency and the low cost that VoIP

technology can provide, businesses are migrating from

traditional copper based systems to VoIP systems.

Most new installations are being designed from the outset

to cater for VoIP, and in many cases they offer a full unified

communication encompassing voice, data, fax and web

conferences on numerous types of devices.

When designing a VoIP, the infrastructure is critical and

we help our clients to understand the principal elements

of VoIP — network bandwidth and CODEC requirements,

Quality of Service for networked voice traffic and standards

such as the Session Initiation Protocol.

Virtualization

Virtualization software allows multiple applications to

run on one server. In our designs, we use virtualization

software to optimise infrastructure hardware and we

find this is an integral component of a successful Cloud

deployment. Virtualizing mission-critical softwares (eg

Oracle & SAP) can lead to considerable savings. We have

delivered Cloud projects, where as a result of successful

virtualization, hardware savings (for example relating to

servers, power, cooling and floor areas) have contributed

more than 40% towards the delivery of the overall cloud

project.

Our solutions are based on the following process: 1. End-user Requirements Study

2. Legacy Systems & Current State Assessment

3. Investment Costs

4. Governance & Compliance Refresh

ENGINEERING & TECHNOLOGY | CAPABILITY STATEMENT | 25INTERFACE TRACKING & MANAGEMENT

INTERFACE TRACKING & MANAGEMENT

The primary concept for interface tracking and management is to deliver a fully integrated, safe, operable and maintainable

system - in phases. We achieve this by integrating each system into groups based on various logical criteria such as

functionality, interdependencies and criticality. This allows each subsystem to be tested and integrated with other subsystems

in manageable stages.

LAYER 6:

Presenta-tion

On a simple project, the number of interfaces can run to

hundreds. Whereas on a complex project we can expect

thousands. Each interface has the potential to delay and impact

the successful delivery of a system. The simplest example would

be the delivery of an access control door which may have

different contractors working on cabling, containment, door

furniture, doors, power, card readers and door controllers, just for

a single door.

Tracking and scheduling the interfaces in a structured way with software tools is, in our experience, the only way of tracking

progress against interface activities.

Integration & Interface Management Plan

For all our projects we develop an Integration & Interface Management Plan that sets the stage for the following associated

documents:

• Detailed Interface Document - to track the status of the subsystem interface definition and verification

• Interface Control Document - to define the subsystems’ interfaces which are signed off by all relevant parties

• Integration / Interface Test Plans - to define the verification processes for the integration of various interfaces

• Share of Works - drawings to define the split of responsibilities for different interfacing contractors
