Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs) are a group of four institutes ofhigher educationinIndia,

focused oninformation technology. They are established by the central government, centrally funded, and

managed by theMinistry of Human Resource Development.[1]

Indian Government is likely to approve the Indian

Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Bill that seeks to give IIITs administrative autonomy and uniformity and

set up 20 more such schools on a public-private partnership (PPP) model.[2][3]

Admissions into undergraduate programmes in IIITs are through theJoint Entrance Examination JEE (Main) -

2013.

Indian Institute of Information Technology, Allahabad(IIIT Allahabad) was established in 1999, and was

recognized asdeemed universityin 2000.[4]

It is the only government IIIT that is intended to be focused on

the areas of informatics and library sciences.

Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management, Gwalior(IIITM-G), is the first IIIT of country.

An institute which was established by Government of India. The name Atal Bihari Vajpayee was added to

IIITM Gwalior in honor of India's former Prime Minister.

Indian Institute of Information Technology, Design and Manufacturing, Jabalpur(IIITDM Jabalpur),

[Madhya pradesh], was established as an autonomous in the year 2005 following a sequence of meetings

held between Manmohan Singh, the honourable Prime Minister of India and Junichiro Koizumi, the

honorable Prime Minister of Japan. Focus was laid on the development of an interdisciplinary curriculum

such that students become proficient in not one but the four fields of Design, Computer Sciences,

Electronics and Communication and Mechanical Engineering. It became a deemed university in June

2009.[4]

Indian Institute of Information Technology Design & Manufacturing Kancheepuram(IIITDM

Kancheepuram) was established by the Govt. of India in 2007 to pursue design and manufacturing

oriented engineering education and research excellence. The Institute is offering novel and first of its kind

UG, PG and Ph.D programs in the broad areas of computer, electronics and mechanical engineering. It is

only for M.Tech.

As per the Budget 2011, twenty more IIITs under the Public Private Partnership (PPP) model, are to be

launched soon for every major state of India.Nasscomrecently submitted a detailed project report to the

Government of India on the establishment of new IIITs.[6]

Each of the IIITs has been proposed to be set up as a fully autonomous institution, through the PPP model.

The partners setting up IIITs will be the ministry of human resource development, the governments of

respective states where each IIIT will be established and industry members. The report suggests that private

organisations should play an equal or slightly greater role in bringing investment for the new IIITs. According to

former director Chandresh Chauhan, IIITs are not to be confused with IITs because the two institutions offer

completely different focuses.

The addition of new IIITs asInstitutes of National Importanceis proposed underThe Institutes of Information

Technology Bill 2010.[7]

As of June 2011 the bill was not approved yet.[8]

Indira Gandhi Institute of Technology was established by Department of Training and Technical Education,

Govt. of Delhi, in 1998 as the first woman Engineering College in India. It was the first institute to become a

constituent college ofGuru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University.[citation needed]
