ETMS Reporting Exadata POV (Proof of Value) Results
The Enterprise Trouble Management System (ETMS) platform rationalizes the trouble ticketing
applications within Verizon. The current platform has a number of performance and scale issues
that are dramatically impacting end user performance as well as representing significant
operational challenges including:
– Reporting Performance
– Scalability of the messaging services
– Challenges in replicating data between environments
The POV was conducted October 2013 at the Oracle Solution Center in Santa Clara, CA,
utilizing a quarter rack of Exadata with a test harness and use cases provided by the Verizon
team.
This proof of value (POV) has demonstrated that when deployed on Exadata, ETMS Reporting
performance was increased in the 1,000+x range.
ETMS Reporting on Exadata positions Verizon in 2014 to tie into their new BI tool and have
their documents in the reporting system.

ETMS Reporting Exadata POV (Proof of Value) Results (slide 3 of 3)
Tested on Oracle Exadata: Vs. brand new HP DL380 x86 blades, RHEL, 4-node RAC cluster in Omaha / Fairland
1/4 Rack X2-2, high performance disk
ASM (Normal Redundancy)
Data: 7 TB
Oracle Database 11.2.0.3
52 concurrent SQL users
System Metrics during the POV: 50%+ headroom!
Note: ETMS Online database was not tested in this POV, Reporting has the more critical need
Proposed Technical Solution: ¼ rack Exadata, ZFS for back up with ACS start up pack Leverage HCC (Hybrid Columnar Compression, typically 5-10x)
Positioned to handle growth
Positioned to handle BI
Equivalent performance can’t be achieved & would cost more on other platforms
Oracle software runs best on Oracle hardware

“ETMS Reporting is a perfect fit for Exadata due to the application’s high I/O demands. You can
offload the where clause to the cells in Exadata” POV manager
