There will be plenty of attractions such as:

Christmas Crackers: Colourful boxes of Christmas Crackers will be

decorating the shelves.

Anyone wishing to buy them should arrive early as they soon disappearfrom the shelves as do the Christmas Cakes and Puddings!

Christmas Cakes and Puddings: The WDA ladies make these very popular

items from traditional recipes.

Homemade mince pies will also be on sale and for those of you who like to

make your own, jars of mincemeat will be available.

Marmalades, Jams, Pickles and Chutneys: All will be available: Sweet and

Bitter Marmalade, Apricot Jam and Lemon Curd, Mango Chutney,Indian Chutney and Pineapple Relish, Mustard Pickle, Branston Pickle and

Bread & Butter Pickle.

All the ingredients are natural and are made from English recipes.

The Handicraft Stall: The talented ladies of the WDA produce the majority

of the items displayed on this stall.

There will be a varied selection of articles such as: hand towels, tea towels,

etc. that make very nice Christmas gifts.



Swiss Lottery: This is a lot of fun for the family. Every number wins a prize

and depending on your luck, it could be a very good one!

The White Elephant Stall where you will find items that are almost new and

in good condition that can be bought as Christmas gifts or for personal use.

Snack Bar : Homemade refreshments, beer and soft drinks will be available

at the snack bar.

All the proceeds go to Charity so please come along and support us.

The BCS is pleased to present a “Very British” Traditional Christmas

lunch. We’ll be welcoming you with smoked salmon canapés and

your choice of:

Prosseco, fine wines, beer or refrigerantes. Then take your seat with

friends and family as we present all your mouth-watering favorite

dishes:

roast turkey, stuffing, gravy, bread sauce, cranberry sauce, roast

potatoes, mixed vegetables and of course – delicious “pigs-in-

blankets”

All prepared by celebrated chef: Chef Joel Guerin!

For dessert we’ll have Christmas pudding, brandy butter and

Christmas cake.

Don’t miss a special cameo performance by Rio’s favorite cellist,

David Chew, performing with the incomparable Jo Phillips!

Pianist extraordinaire, Gijs Andriessen, will be playing throughout the

1. "In-the-kitchen" with celebrated French Chef Joel Guerin: Chef JoelGuerin, with over 30 years experience as the top Executive Chef of

Marriott Worldwide, will be cooking the "Very British" Traditional

Christmas meal for the BCS this year. Chef Joel is offering BCS members

the exclusive opportunity to join him in the kitchen to prepare this very

special meal. Learn the inside secrets of one of Rio's greatest chefs and

how to cook one of the most important meals of the year! Preparation

and cooking will take place over two days: Friday December 12 and

Saturday December 13 at the kitchen of Jubilee Hall at

Botafogo. Everyone is welcome. Space is strictly limited to 6 "Chef'sAssistants". No charge for BCS members. Reserve your space with

2. "Calling all Angels"... Christmas Carol Singing Group: Rio's well-known

and well loved Dutch pianist, Gijs Andriessen, who will be entertaining

guests this year at the BCS Christmas Party, is offering to get BCS members

in tune and ready for the BCS's Christmas Caroling with Martin

Hester. Come join this weekly group of those who love to sing. Its good

for the heart, head and soul! Gijs will have all the words for all thepopular Christmas carols to ensure you are ready for the grand

performance with Martin at this year's BCS Christmas Party, Saturday

December 13. No charge for BCS members. Singers will assemble

Thursdays 1-3pm at a private home. Reserve your space with Mônica

3. Do you love to sew?... why not help us make your Christmas truly

special...: The BCS wants to make your "Very British" traditional Christmas

lunch really special this year. We have the linen table cloths pressed,







the place settings polished and glasses sparkling clean. The only thing

missing is beautiful Christmas napkins! We'll supply the fabric and thread,

if you'll donate your time and talent. No minimum number of napkins

required - just sew as many as you like (we're hoping lots of "elves" join

us). You can sew from the comfort of your home or come once a week tothe BCS in Botafogo. No charge for BCS members. Please contact Mônica


4. Looking for a charity ONG to volunteer? Come visit Il Sorriso,

guaranteed to put a smile on your face and learn about urban organic

gardening… Its the time of year when we think of friends and family and

how we can help those less fortunate than ourselves. This year the BCS

Christmas Party is raising funds for ONG Il Sorriso in

Rocinha: www.ilsorrisodeimieibimbi.org founded by the extraordinarydedicated Italian: Barbara Olivi. Il Sorriso is an educational facility for

toddlers and teens. One of the most innovative projects that Il Sorriso

offers its children is its urban organic gardening project lead by Australian

Botanist and volunteer, Alice Frost. Join Alice and her team on this

exciting and meaningful experience with the children gardening and

making healthy treats. Or come to Il Sorriso's Christmas party for the

children, Sunday December 14. Everyone has fun and everyone is

“Do you want to take part in the Rio Olympics and Paralympics?

Here’s your chance! Rio 2016 are inviting applications from people willing

to volunteer during the Olympic and Paralympic Games in

August/September 2016. 70,000 will be selected to assist in a wide varietyof roles. You will need to commit to ten days of volunteering during either

the Olympics or the Paralympics, as well as some mandatory training in
