Top officials from KPC and its subsidiaries, oil sector employees, former KOC Chairman Sami Al-Rushaid and a number of Oil Facilities Security Officers were present during the occasion.

Cordial and fraternal talks were exchanged during the gathering, and all present expressed their best wishes and prayers for all oil sector employees, the people of Kuwait and expatriates.

CEO Hashem Hashem visited Ahmadi Hospital on the second day of Eid Al-Fitr to congratulate patients on the blessed occasion. He also presented them with gifts and wished them all a prompt recovery.

Hashem was accompanied by the DCEO for Exploration & Gas Menahi Al-Enezi and DCEO for Planning & Commercial Jamal Jaafar during the tour, which was comprised of several hospital wards, the Emergency Section, the Pharmacy and the Security Unit.

On the conclusion of the tour, Hashem expressed satisfaction over the good organization of the hospital and hailed the genuine efforts exerted by its staff, especially during festivities and events.

Acting Hospital Manager Dr. Khaled Al-Suweilem said that it was customary for Higher Management to pay visits to the hospital on various occasions. He labeled the initiatives as “humanitarian acts” that are received by patients and employees with the utmost appreciation and gratitude.

Acting Administrative Services TL Mohammad Al-Bous also hailed the efforts of all employees who spent Eid away from their families to fulfill their humanitarian role and lend helping hands to patients.

KOC Signs Agreement with EmersonCD Program for Instrumentation Maintenance Engineers

Team Building EventA Business Planning and Control Team Workshop

KOC has signed a contract with US-based Emerson Process Management for a Competency Development Program for the Company’s Instrumentation Maintenance Engineers.

Under the Contract, Emerson will conduct a 19-week technical training course for young KOC engineers, with 70% of that time being on factory-based, hands-on work with Emerson’s leading process control systems.

Initial plans for the agreement were discussed during a meeting between top executives from Emerson and KOC’s Senior Management, including

DCEO (NK) Emad Sultan, Team Leader Maintenance (NK) Hamed Al-Mutairi and Team Leader Career Development & Planning Saeed Al-Mutairi.

In a speech he delivered on the occasion, Al-Mutairi highlighted the challenges involved with training KOC’s engineers and described the program as the first of its kind and expressed hope that its implementation would lead to further cooperation between the two companies in the future.

The Business Planning and Control TIU/CDU Team recently organized an annual Team Building Event. The workshop, themed “Leverage Team Spirit” was intended to improve the effectiveness of Team Collaboration.

Head CDU Dr. Lina Abu Dheir sought the participation of all personnel who offer continuous support (Technical or Admin.) such as IT, T&CD Corporate, Admin coordinators to the Team, and office personnel who hold a wide range of disciplines and cultural backgrounds.

The event was led by Head CDU, Dr. Lina Abu Dheir with Dr. Khaled Mansour (Business Planning Discipline Member Expert) who facilitated the workshop and encouraged each team member from the six teams to

embrace a specific role and responsibility within each exercise.

A wide variety of tools were used, including interactive team exercises, in a bid to improve the spirit of harmonious interaction among all participants.

The workshop successfully resulted in highlighting the need of a leader in each team, effective listening, communicating clear instructions, planning and creativity while “thinking outside the box” to complete tasks, applying rhythm and synchronization to work in a sequential and timely manner and ensuring that goals are reached collectively.

The Burgan Reservoir Static and Dynamic Modeling Project from the Fields Development (S&EK) Group has produced an important number of technical results that have been published and presented in conferences worldwide, including AAPG 2012, EAGE and MEOS 2013.

A technical publication based on this project, article SPE 164187, was selected as one of the only three technical papers published in the yearly compilation of the Journal of Petroleum Technology (JPT), the leading magazine of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE). The article was published in the July 2013 issue, in the Technology Focus section dedicated to Reservoir Simulation.

Manager FD (S&EK) Jamal Al-Humoud stated that these kinds of accomplishments were “The result of the high-end professional and world-class work of our FD (S&EK) employees, who are some of the best experts at KOC.”

“The publication of the results of the Greater Burgan Studies Project in the JPT magazine is particularly remarkable, considering that our work was chosen among hundreds of other technical publications worldwide,” said TL GBS Farida Ali Abdullah.

The project is led by KOC Consultant and Project Manager Eddie Ma, who works with Senior Geologist Reham Al-Houti, Engineer Laila Dashti, Specialist Merlon Robles and a group of contractors from Schlumberger led by the Eng. Muhammad Ibrahim.

The project continues to add value to the subsurface studies of FD (S&EK), and is currently in the phase of forecasting different production scenarios of the future production of Greater Burgan Area.

KOC has contributed two working papers to the conference recently organized by the Gas Processors Association (GCC Chapter) in Doha, under the auspices of the Qatari Minister of Energy and Industry, Dr. Mohammad Bin Saleh Al-Sadah, themed “Operational Distinction in the Natural Gas Industry.”

A technical paper titled “Improvement of Sulphur Recovery from Gas Fields in the Jurassic Gas Project (NK)” by Engineer Saad Dlaihy Al-Hajri was well-received.

Al-Hajri attributed this success to KOC and maintained that such an achievement would not have been possible without the support and encouragement of the Gas Production

NK Operations Team recently organized, in partnership with experts from the Evaluation of Oil Reservoir Capacity Company, a workshop titled: “Evaluation of Horizontal Well Drilling Performance in North Kuwait.” The workshop was held with the participation of Drilling Operations Teams from West and South & East Kuwait.

The workshop reviewed the most interesting drilling accomplishments, their difficulties, challenges and the exchange of expertise with other teams.

Fields Development Group Manager (NK) Badria Abdul Rahman and Drilling Development Operations Group Manager Mohammad Al-Saeedi welcomed the attendants and commended their efforts. They also upheld the importance of teamwork and the exchange of expertise with other teams in order to obtain the best results.

Reservoir Studies TL (NK) Bader Al-Saad then conducted a presentation on the

Deep Drilling Team Wins 3rd Indoor Soccer ChampionshipFinal Match Attended By CEO

The Deep Drilling Group Team recently won the third KOC Ramadan Indoor Soccer Championship after beating the Exploration Group Team in a match that was attended by CEO Hashem Hashem and a number of Company officials.

On the conclusion of the event, Hashem delivered the Championship Cup to the winners and medals were distributed to the players of both teams. Referees, the best goalkeeper, the best player and the best scorer were also honored.

While the competition between teams was fierce, matches were nonetheless conducted in a cordial atmosphere of friendship. A draw for valuable gifts was also held during the occasion.

Gifts and cups were also distributed to the winners of the cards, checkers, snooker and chess contests that took place at the Unity Centre. The contests were organized in collaboration with the Kuwait Mind Sports Association.

In total, 32 teams represented KPC subsidiaries in this year’s competition.

KOC Laboratory employees recently organized a field visit to the laboratories of Kuwait University in order to become acquainted with their equipment and facilities. This activity falls within the framework of the Collaboration Agreement that was signed between both parties in March of 2012, which in part calls for laboratory improvement while also further developing the activities of WK labs.

A group of KU students, led by Dr. Osamah Al-Omair, took part in the new KOC project for the development of Um Ghudair wells and suggested some appropriate solutions for crude flow restrictions in pipelines.

Kuwait University recently forwarded some potential solutions to the Um Ghudair project to the Water Handling Team, a gesture highly appreciated by Operations Manager (WK) Omar Sadeq and Water Handling Team Leader (WK) Salman Al-Qabandi.

Sadeq commended the study forwarded by KU and described the included proposals as instrumental in the future studies of the university students. Meanwhile, Al-Qabandi affirmed that expanding the participation with Kuwait University on future KOC projects will serve the interests of both parties.

KOC, represented by the Projects Management Team (NK), recently participated in the two-day Construction Engineering & Building Conference held in Cairo. The team from KOC presented a working paper titled: “Contracting for Construction Projects.”

The paper, its first part comprised of an introduction to Construction Contracts, the concerned parties and an explanation of the rights and obligations of each party, was delivered by Engineer Abdulrahman Mudhi Al-Shammari.

Discussions focused on the required documents for such contracts, including a contract’s drafting, plans and specifications, lists of quantities, general and special conditions, and priorities of contracting documents in case of contradiction when implementing the conditions of contracts.

The second part of the paper dealt with explaining contracting methods in construction projects, ways and means of selecting the contractors in charge of executing projects, in addition to the sort of contracts accredited for construction and cases of cancelling tenders.

Al-Shammari concluded his paper by explaining the financial warranties for construction projects and the relevant insurance for each and every party.

KOC Organizes Party for Employees’ ChildrenOn the occasion of Eid Al-Fitr

KOC organized an evening gathering on the second day of Eid Al-Fitr for the children of employees. The party, which took place at the Company’s tent, was comprised of several shows and a buffet.

Senior Administrative Affairs Officer Jasem Al-Nasser said that the Community Services Team organized the party so that children and their parents could share the Eid celebration in a pleasant, family atmosphere. The event was also comprised of a number of activities and contests for children and adults.
